SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION
This manual describes a range of products designed to support the implementation of test systems that contain a
Wired Trigger Bus conformant to the LXI standard. The components can be also used in the compliance testing of
LXI Devices with WTB capability and to allow a test bench to be constructed demonstrating the operation of the
WTB.
The key items covered by this manual are:
•60-981. Wired Trigger Probe. The probe allows an oscilloscope or similar device to be used to
monitor the analog waveforms present on the differential pairs that carry the M-LVDS signals. The
probe is particularly useful for diagnosing faults on the WTB and testing component parts in the
system.
•60-982 WTB Adaptor. The adaptor allows signals from LVTTL sources to be transferred to WTB
signals on any of the 8 channels that make up the WTB. The adaptor can be manually congured
or controlled through a digital I/O interface. In addition signals that are present on the WTB are
converted to LVTTL signals. The adaptor is a simple method of connecting trigger signals to and from
products without a WTB capability (including non LXI products).
•60-983 Terminator. Provides a simple terminator required to terminate the WTB transmission lines.
•60-984. Extender. Allows WTB cables to be connected together to extend their length, useful when
the user does not have WTB cables of the right length
•60-985. WTB cables. A variety of different length cables suitable for connecting together LXI devices
with WTB capability.
•60-990. Agilent Scope Adapter. Allows the logical state of all 8 WTB channels to be displayed on
an Agilent 6000 or 8000 series oscilloscope.
More information on the LXI standard and the LXI WTB can be found on the LXI web site www.lxistandard.org . A
tutorial on the LXI WTB is provided in Section 4 of this manual.
LXI Conformance
At the time this manual was created the products described have not been certied by the LXI Consortium as
complying with the LXI Specication. However, they have been tested in association with LXI Devices and it is
believed they that they are compatible with the essential electrical and physical characteristics of the LXI Wired
Trigger Bus. It is anticipated that some devices will be tested for compliance for the Termination aspects of the
standard.

LXI Wired Trigger Bus Probe - 60-981
• Compatible With LXI Wired Trigger Bus
• Makes The WTB Accessible
• Provides a Thru Line Probe Function
• Easy Monitoring of Trigger Bus Activity
• Minimal Loading On The WTB
• Essential Tool For Testing WTB Integrity
• 3 Year Warranty
The 60-981 LXI Wired Trigger Probe provides a simple method of
monitoring the LXI Wired Trigger Bus activity. It provides a through
line active probe that can be used to non-intrusively monitor the
waveforms of the M-LVDS drivers on all 8 channels. Each channel
has two single ended outputs from the differential pair that can be
subtracted by an oscilloscope to display each driver output and the
differential signal.
The use of high speed buffers ensures the outputs from the probe
provide an accurate representation of the signals with minimal
loading of the WTB transmission line. The through line tracks
are accurately matched to the WTB cable impedance and exhibit
minimal loss to the M-LVDS signalling.
The monitor outputs provide a 50Ω source impedance, DC coupled
output with a source e.m.f. equal to the M-LVDS signal.
Applications for the 60-981 include the debugging of LXI systems
with WTB capability and the testing of WTB cables for integrity or
compliance to the LXI standard
The 60-981 probe operates from an external DC power source
provided by the user.

• Internally Terminated And Thru Line Versions
• Supports All 8 LXI WTB Channels
• Ideal Solution For Adapting non LXI Triggering
to LXI
• 3 Year Warranty
The 60-982 provides a effective method of adapting trigger signals
from bench instruments to the LXI Wired Trigger Bus signalling
standard. The 60-982 converts M-LVDS signals on the WTB to Low
Voltage TTL signals and converts Low Voltage TTL signals to M-LVDS.
All 8 channels of the LXI WTB are supported in a single adaptor.
Each channel of the WTB can be congured either manually or
through a digital I/O to be Disabled, Driven or in Wired OR mode. The
interface is fully compatible with the LXI WTB standard and counts as
one node on the bus.
The adaptor is available in two versions, one having a thru line
connection for the WTB and the second including a terminator.
The 60-982 is an ideal solution to integrating products with
dedicated trigger facilities, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum
analyzers or signal generators, into LXI systems using the WTB.
Power for the 60-982 is provided by an external AC/DC adaptor
or DC power supply.

The 60-983 is an LXI compatible Wired Trigger Bus Terminator
(WTB) designed to be attached to the end of a WTB cable.
The LXI WTB uses a transmission line cable to connect LXI
devices together that support the WTB capability of the LXI
standard. Like all transmissions it needs to be correctly terminated
to avoid reections that could change the signal amplitude along
the cable and generate timing jitter or trigger errors. The 60-983
is a simple terminator that can be placed at each end of the WTB
chain to correctly terminate the transmission line with minimal
reections.
Termination of the transmission is simple, a WTB cable is attached
to the LXI Device WTB bus connector and the other end is
terminated with the 60-983. The use of an intermediary cable
ensures that access to the terminator is easy even when the LXI
system has a mixture of units with variable depths.
The 60-983 can be used in association with the 60-981 WTB probe
or the 60-982 WTB adaptor. It is LXI conformant.
The 60-983 terminator is also available in versions with different
termination impedances. They can be used as an impedance
reference for making TDR measurements on cable assemblies.
