1 English
1.1 Introduction
The PICO ADC-200 is a high speed analog to digital converter with two
input channels and software controlled input ranges. It can be used as
avirtual instrument with the supplied PicoScope software: alternatively,
you can use the ADC-200 driver software to develop your own programs
to collect and analyse data from the unit.
This manual describes the physical and electrical properties of the ADC-
200. Other information can be found in the following locations:

1.2 Safety Warning
The ground input (BNC outer shell) is connected directly to the ground of
your computer. This is done in order to minimise interference. As with
mostoscilloscopes, youshould takecare notto connectthe groundinput
of the ADC to anything which may be at some voltage other than ground;
doing so may cause damage to the ADC. If in doubt, connect a channel
input to the doubtful ground point and check that there is no significant
AC or DC voltage.
As some computers do not have an earth connection (for example
laptops), it must be assumed that the ADC-200 is not protected by an
earth. For this reason we recommend that only Class II (double
insulated) oscilloscope probes should be used.
The maximum input voltage of the ADC-200 is ±20V. Any voltages in
excess of ±100V may cause permanent damage to the unit.
The unit contains no user servicable parts, repair or calibration of the unit
requires specialised test equipment and must be performed by Pico
Technology Limited or their authorised distributors.

The computer will ask you a number of questions, then copy the files that
you have selected onto your hard disk.
The software will normally be installed in a directory called C:\PICO and
the software drivers in the sub-directory called C:\PICO\DRIVERS

1.6 Operation
To use the ADC-200, you should connect the D-connector on the ADC-
200 to the printer port on your computer using the cable provided. Next,
connect DC power by plugging the power adaptor into a mains socket
and plugging the DC power jack into the socket on the ADC-200. The
red light should now be on, showing the unit is powered.
The ADC-200 has the same connectors as an oscilloscope, so you can
usestandardoscilloscopeprobes.Theinputimpedanceisalsothesame,
so the x10 function on a scope probe works correctly.
Thereis aswitch nextto eachBNC connector(ADC200-20 only):with the
switch down, the ADC-200 can measure DC voltages on the BNC next
to it. With the switch up, it measures only AC voltages.
The BNC connector labelled 'E' has two functions; in normal use it is the
external trigger input and accepts a TTL compatible input signal. This
connector can also be used as a simple (squarewave) generator. This
signal generator can be used to compensate x10 scope probes.
To check that the unit is working, start up the PicoScope program.
PicoScope should now display the voltage that you have connected. If
you are using scope probes, when you touch the scope probe tip with
your finger, you should see a small 50Hz mains signal on the screen.

2.2 Consignes de sécurité
L'entrée terre (enveloppe extérieure du BNC) se connecte directement
sur la prise de terre de l'ordinateur, ceci afin de minimiser les
interférences.Comme pourla plupartdes oscilloscopes,prendre soinde
ne pas connecter l'entrée terre du convertisseur à une tension autre que
la masse, ce qui risquerait d'endommager le convertisseur. Dans le
doute, connecter la prise d'entrée d'une voie sur le point supposé terre,
et vérifier qu'il n'existe aucune tension notable AC ou DC.
Certains ordinateurs n'ayant pas de connexion terre (les portables par
exemple), il est préférable de supposer que l'ADC-200 ne possède pas
de protection terre. Par conséquent, il est recommandé d'utiliser
exclusivement des sondes d'oscilloscopes de Classe II (à double
isolation).
La gamme de tension d'entrée maximale de l'ADC-200 est de ±20V.
Toute tension supérieure à ±100V risquerait de causer un dommage
irréversible à l'unité.

2.6 Fonctionnement
Afin de pouvoir utiliser l'ADC-200, il est nécessaire de relier le
connecteur D situé sur l'ADC-200 au port imprimante de l'ordinateur à
l'aide du câble fourni. Brancher ensuite l'adaptateur de secteur à une
prise de courant, et la fiche électrique DC au port situé sur l'ADC-200,
pour connecter le courant DC.
Le témoin lumineux rouge doit alors s'allumer pour indiquer que l'unité
fonctionne. L'ADC-200 disposant des mêmes connecteurs qu'un
oscilloscope,ilestpossibled'utiliserdessondesd'oscilloscopestandard.
L'impédance d'entrée est également la même; par conséquent, la
fonction x10 d'une sonde d'oscilloscope marche convenablement.
Acôtéde chaqueconnecteur BNCse trouveun commutateur(ADC 200-
20): si ce commutateur est abaissé, l'ADC-200 peut mesurer des
tensions DC sur le BNC voisin. S'il est relevé, il ne mesure que des
tensions AC.
Le connecteur BNC marqué 'E' a deux fonctions; en utilisation normale,
il fait office de déclencheur externe et reçoit un signal d'entrée TTL
compatible, mais il peut également être utilisé comme un simple
générateur(d'ondescarrées).Onpeututilisercedernierpourcompenser

des sondes d'oscilloscopes et que l'on touche l'extrêmité de la sonde du
bout du doigt, un petit signal de secteur 50Hz doit apparaître sur l'écran.

3.2 Sicherheitswarnung
Die Eingangsmasse (BNC Außenhülse) ist direkt mit der Masse Ihres
Computers verbunden. Das geschieht zur Unterdrückung von
Interferenzen. So wie bei den meisten Oszilloskopen sollten Sie es
vermeiden, den Masseeingang des ADC-200 mit einem anderen
Potential als dem Massepotential zu verbinden, da das zur
Beschädigung des ADC führen kann. Im Zweifelsfall verbinden Sie den
zweifelhaften Massepunkt mit einem Meßkanal und überprüfen Sie, daß
keine nennenswerten Gleich- oder Wechselspanungen vorhanden sind.
Da einige Computer keine Erdverbindung aufweisen (z.B. Laptops) muß
davon ausgegangen werden, daß der ADC-200 möglicherweise nicht
durch eine Erdverbindung geschützt wird. Für diesen Fall empfehlen wir
ausschließlich Class II (doppeltet isoliert) Oszilloskopsonden zu
verwenden.
Die maximale Eingansspannung des ADC-200 ist ±20V. Spannung über
±100V können das Gerät dauerhaft beschädigen.
Das Gerät beinhaltet keine wartungsbedürftigen Teile. Die Reparatur
oder Kalibrierung des Gerätes erfordert eine spezielle Testausrüstung
und muß durch Pico Technology Limited oder einem autorisierten
Vertragshändler durchgeführt werden.

3.6 Betrieb
Um mit dem ADC-200 zu arbeiten verbinden Sie den Digitalanschluß
des ADC-200 über das mitgelieferte Parallelkabel mit dem Druckerport
Ihres Computers. Als nächstes verbinden Sie das Netzteil über das
Netzkabel mit dem Stromnetz und über den DC-Stecker mit dem
Stromanschluß des ADC-200. Die rote Lampe sollte jetzt leuchten und
signalisieren, daß das Gerät eingeschaltet ist.
Der ADC-200 hat die selben Anschlüsse wie ein Oszilloskop, was die
Verwendung von Standardsonden für Oszilloskope gestattet. Der
Eingangswiderstand ist auch der selbe, so daß die x10 Funktion einer
Oszilloskopsonde korrekt arbeitet.
NebenjedemBNC-AnschlußbefindetsicheinSchalter(ADC200-20).Ist
der Schalter in der unteren Position können über den zugehörigen BNC
Anschluß Gleichspannungen gemessen werden. Befindet sich der
Schalter in der oberen Position, werden nur Wechselspannungen
gemessen.
Der mit 'E' beschriftete BNC Anschluß hat zwei Funktionen. Im
Normalbetriebwird erals externerTriggereingang benutztund akzeptiert
ein TTL kompatibles Eingangssignal. Dieser Anschluß kann außerdem
als ein einfacher Rechteckgenerator betrieben werden. Dieser
Signalgenertor kann für die Justierung einer x10 Oszilloskopsonde
verwendet werden.
Um zu kontrollieren ob das Gerät korrekt arbeitet, starten Sie das
PicoScope Programm. PicoScope sollte jetzt die Spannung anzeigen,
welche Sie angeschlossen haben. Falls Sie eine Oszilloskopsonde
verwenden und diese mit Ihrem Finger berühren, sollten Sie ein
schwaches 50 Hz Signal auf dem Bildschirm sehen.

L'ingressodi terra(guaina esternadel BNC)è collegatodirettamente alla
messaaterradelcomputerperminimizzareeventualiinterferenze.Come
per la maggior parte degli oscilloscopi è importante accertarsi che
l'ingresso di terra dell'ADC-200 venga collegato esclusivamente alla
messaa terra.Il collegamentoad altripunti sottotensione puòprovocare
danni all'unità ADC. Se in dubbio consigliamo di collegare un canale di
ingresso al punto di collegamento a terra per verificare l'assenza di una
significativa tensione c.a. o c.c..
Per computer che non dispongono di un collegamento a terra (ad
esempio i laptop), si tenga presente che l'ADC-200 non è protetto da
messa a terra. Per questi computer consigliamo pertanto di usare solo
sonde di oscilloscopi di classe II (a doppio isolamento).
La gamma massima di tensione di ingresso per l'ADC-200 è di ±20V.
Qualsiasitensione ineccesso di ±100Vpuò provocaredanni permanenti
all'unità.
L'unità non contiene parti che prevedono interventi manutentivi da parte
dell'utilizzatore: eventuali riparazioni o tarature richiedono l'impiego di
attrezzature speciali di prova e devono essere affidate alla Pico
Technology Limited o a distributori autorizzati.

4.6 Funzionamento
Per usare l'unità ADC-200 è necessario collegare il connettore tipo D
dell'unità alla porta della stampante del computer usando il cavo in
dotazione. Collegare una fonte di alimentazione c.c. inserendo
l'adattatore per l'alimentazione in una presa di rete e inserendo il jack
dell'alimentazionec.c. nellapresa dell'ADC-200.La spiarossa dovrebbe
illuminarsi per segnalare che l'unità è alimentata.
L'ADC-200 utilizza gli stessi connettori di un oscilloscopio in modo da
potere adottare sonde standard. Anche l'impedenza d'ingresso è la
stessa in modo da consentire il corretto funzionamento della funzione
x10 sulla sonda dell'oscilloscopio.
L'unità presenta un interruttore posto accanto ai connettori BNC (ADC
200-20): posizionando l'interruttore verso il basso, l'unità misurerà le
tensioni c.c. sul BNC accanto ad esso. Quando la posizione
dell'interruttore è verso l'alto, l'unità misura solo tensioni c.a..
Il connettore BNC contrassegnato con una 'E' ha due funzioni; in
funzionamento normale usa il trigger di ingresso esterno e accetta un
segnale di ingresso compatibile con il TTL. Il connettore può anche
essere utilizzato come un semplice generatore (onde quadre). Questo
generatore di segnale può essere usato per compensare sonde di
oscilloscopi x10.
Per verificare il funzionamento dell'unità, avviare il programma
PicoScope. PicoScope dovrebbe visualizzare la tensione collegata. Se
si stanno utilizzando sonde per oscilloscopi, toccando la sonda con la
punta del dito sullo schermo dovrebbe apparire un segnale di frequenza
di rete di 50Hz.
