Introduction&History
WACO ispronounced “wah-co”It rhymeswithtaco. The WACO Aircraft Cohasno
relation toWaco, Texas, whichbythe way, ispronounced “way-ko.”
“The WACO Aircraft Companyof Troy, Ohiowasthe leading aircraft manufacturerof
civilian aircraft inthe U. S. from1928 -1935. Beginning in1921 asthe Weaver Aircraft
CompanyinLorain, Ohio, theymoved toTroyin1924 and becamethe AdvanceAircraft
Companybut kept the WACO logo. In1929, the namewaschanged tosimplythe
WACO Aircraft Company.
WACOproduced over80 modelsduring the years1919 -1946,including the large troop
carrying glidersused inall the majorinvasionsduring WWII. The best selling WACO
wasthe Model10, withover1100 being produced from1927 -1930. During the years
1939 -1942, WACO alsobuilt just over600 ModelUPF-7'sforthe CAA and the Civilian
Pilot Training program. WACOswerealsopopulararound the worldand soldairplanes

1.Locatethe partsshownforthe aileron
installation.
2.Removethe servomounting platefromthe
lowerwing panels. The mounting layout is
forthe HitecHS-635 standardservo.
Adjust asnecessaryif you areusing a
different servo.
3.Drill the wood blocks witha1.5mm drill
(1/16”).
4.Mount aileron servotoblocks withservo
screws. Makesurethe aileron iscentered
using aservocentering device.
5.Add a12”heavy-dutyservoextension to
the aileron servos.
6.Add aservoplug retainerortape the
connection toprotect against accidental
disconnection.

7.Slide the servoextension through the wing
tothe root.
8.Install servomounting platewithsmall
sheet metalscrews.
9.Untape aileron frommainwing panel.
10.LocateCAhinges, fourwill be used for
eachaileron.
11.Aileronsand theirmating surfacehave
been pre-slotted forCAhinges.
12.Insert CAhingestotheircentersineach
slot on aileron.
13.Foldthe CAhinge sharplyupward, This
will keep theminplacewhen inserting the
hingesinthe mainwing panel.
14.Install the aileron intoposition on the main
wing panel. Makesuretocheck the gap at
the root of the aileron and the fit at the tip.
15.Withthe aileron tight against wing and
deflected downward, use3dropsper
hinge of thinCAtoassurestrong bonds.
Usepapertoweltoremoveanyexcess CA
beforedrying.

16.Deflect aileron upwardsand repeat
application forbottomof wing. Notevery
small gap between aileron and wing.
17.Fromthe top of the wing install the aileron
controlhornwithitswasher. DO NOT
tighten yet. Relievethe areaswherethe
washertouchesthe corrugations. Thisis
most easilyaccomplished withaDremel.
18.Aftermarking the location of the washer
useaDremeltotrimthe corrugations.
19.Workcarefullytomaintainaclosefittothe
washer. (See Photo)
20.Repeat the process forthe underside of
the aileron.
21.Assemblethe aileron controlhornand use
adrop of thread lockertoavoidthe unit
loosening due tovibration. Snug the nut
tight but do not overtighten.

22.Screwnylon controlhornlinkage tothe
controlhorn. The distancefromthe bottom
of the aileron tothe centerof the holeon
the nylon part shouldbe about 28mm
(1-1/8”).
23.Prepare3full sizeservosforinstallation,
werecommend the HitecHS-635.
24.Install the servoarmsasshowninthe
photo.
25.Locatethe 2long elevatorpushrods.
26.Install 2-HS-635 Hitecservosintoouter
mount locationswitharmspointing toward
centerof fuselage. (See Photo)Ashort
Phillipsscrewdriverisrequired.
27.Slide the elevatorpushrodsintoposition
and install eachclevisintoservoarm
about 25mm (1”) fromthe center.
28.Wewill comeback tothe rudderservo
installation inafewsteps.
29.Locatethe partsforthe tailwheel
assembly.

30.Mount the aluminumplatetothe bottomof
the fuselage with3screws. The bend in
the aluminumplategoesdown.

31.Locatehorizontalstabilizerand elevators
along with6CAhinges. Repeat the
assemblyprocess similartothe ailerons.
Makesuretoadjust the gapsinthe hinge
line aswell asthe end gapspriorto
gluing.
32.Epoxyhorizontaltail intoposition on the
fuselage making suretocenteraccurately.
33.Preparethe verticalfinand rudderfor
installation. Install CAhingesinrudder
and fin.
34.NOTE: Tail wheelmust be installed at the
sametimeasthe rudder.
35.Epoxyverticalfinand rudderinplace
along withthe tailwheelsteering arm.

36.Locatethe Pull-Pull ruddercontrolparts.
2lengthsof cable, 4metalclevisesand 4
metalcrimptubes.

37.Thread the bareend of eachcableinto
fuselage at rear. Atube isapre-installed
foryou. Pull all but afewinchesof cable
tothe front. Tape the rearof the cablesso
that theyremainaccessible.
38.Install clevisesat the front end of the
cables. Orderof assembly: slide crimpon
wire, thread wirethrough holeinclevis,
returnthrough crimp, loop end around
through front of crimpagain.
39.It iseasiest tocompletethe cablesetup at
the servoend priortoinstalling the servo
inthe fuselage.
40.Install servoincenterholeinfuselage.
41.Un-tape the cablesat the rearof the
fuselage and thread the pull-pull cables
through the clevises. Just get the basic
cablethreading done but DO NOT crimp
yet.
42.Install the pull-pull controlhornthrough
the rudderand center. Usethread locker
tokeep the unit tight.
43.Install the nylon hornson the threaded
rod.
44.TIP: Connect the rudderservotoaservo
centering deviceand centerthe servo.
Leaveconnected during the cable
adjusting process.
45.Afteryou aresatisfied that you havethe
cablelengthscorrect forcentering your
rudder, and that the servoisstill inits
neutralposition, crimpthe wireinposition.

46.Photoshowsthe elevatorand rudder
controls. Tighten the lock nut tomaintain
the settings.
47.Clipthe excess wireinfront of the crimp.
48.Locatethe pre-painted wirelanding gear
partsaswell asthe 2wooden fillersand
the 2nylon landing gearstrapsand
screws.
49.Insert the landing gearintothe pocketson
the fuselage making suretoavoid
puncturing the covering withthe rear
landing gearwire.
50.Seat gearfullyintoposition and insert the
rearwireinthe pre-drilled holenearthe
front edge of the lowerwing. (See photo)
51.Spread epoxyon the sidesand edgesof
the wooden fillers.
