CE NOTICE
Class A Information Technology Equipment. In a Domestic Environment This Product May Cause Radio Interference;
Corrective Measures By The User May Then Be Required.
SAFETY NOTICE
In support of the EC directive 73/23/EEC and amendment 93/68/EEC, this notice contains safety information that is
important for the correct installation and operation of this equipment. Note, the term SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage)
used in this addendum is defined strictly in accordance with EN 60 950 : 1992.
1. All equipment is intended for installation by trained service personnel only.
2. The safety requirements for Information Technology equipment is only valid if the building installation conforms to
IEC 364 or equivalent national standard.
3. This equipment is not designed for use with power systems with impedance earths, such as an IT Power System.
4. For equipment that uses a detachable power cord, the cord must be a three wire cable that has a green/yellow
protective earth conductor connected to the protective earth contacts in each of the plugs. The set must conform to
BS4491 / EN60 320.
5. WARNING - The safety requirements of class 1 equipment are not met unless the Protective Earth is correctly
connected. Unless otherwise stated, this is achieved by ensuring that the Green/Yellow protective earth wire in the
supply lead is connected to the chassis, and to the building protective earth system through the earth pin of the
building supply outlet.

Manual Reference No. F 2233 M001 Issue 2.0
6. For all AC powered equipment, including equipment powered by a plug top supply, the means of disconnection from
the mains is by removing the mains lead from the wall outlet socket. This wall outlet socket must be close to the
equipment, and must be easily accessible. Alternatively if the equipment has an IEC320 connector in its enclosure,
then either end of the cable can be considered to be the means of disconnection.
7. For all DC powered equipment, the power source must be a SELV supply as defined by EN 60 950. The means of
disconnection from the supply is using the power connector on the enclosure.
8. For equipment that is DC input powered, the DC supply must have a SELV output, i.e. the supply must have double
or reinforced insulation between its primary and secondary circuits.
Similarly if the equipment is supplied from a site battery, the DC charger for the site battery supply must have a SELV
output.
Note that batteries constitute an energy hazard if more than 250VA continuos power is available, or a stored energy
level of more than 20J. Use appropriate external fuses
9. Unless otherwise specifically stated in the equipment installation manual, all data and control ports are connected to
SELV conformant circuits inside the enclosure. To maintain all the ports on the equipment at SELV, it is essential that
if any connection is made to any of these ports by other equipment, the other equipment must maintain its relevant
port at SELV.
10. Data and control cables must be installed in conformance with ECMA-97.
Return Product Procedure
If a product is suspected of being faulty, discuss the problem with Pinacl Technical Support. If the product needs to be
repaired, contact the vendor for a Return Product Repair number and agree the return process with the vendor.
All returns direct to the manufacturer must have a Returns Authorisation Number available from phone 01745-589203 or
fax 01745-589351.
Support and Advice
Should customers experience difficulty either during installation or operation of this equipment, they are first asked to
ensure that all advice given in this manual has been followed.
If, having checked the advice given problems are still encountered then please contact the Customer Help Line for

INTRODUCTION
The 2233 Fast Ethernet, 100BaseFX to 100BaseTX media converter is an exceptionally small,
stand-alone unit, designed to allow the network designer to add fibre segments as needed. The
2233 allows 100BaseTX specifications to be used over fibre cable.
A complement of five LEDs display power for the unit plus link and receive on each segment. A
wall mount 12 VDC power supply is supplied with the unit and is available for either 110 VAC or
240 VAC. The 100BaseTX side of the unit features a MDI/MDIX, uplink, downlink, crossover
switch that dispenses with the need for specially configured cables.
Unlike other manufacturers who require that you purchase two different media converters to run
either half or full duplex. Pinacl’s 2233 will operate in both half and full duplex systems without
user intervention.
This fibre optic to twisted pair media converter converts 100 Mbps fibre signals to 100 Mbps UTP
(Category 5 unshielded twisted pair), and vice-versa. Ideal for utilising fibre cable to extend
segments up to 2 kilometres (or 15 kilometres in the single mode model). The 2233 will not add
a logical repeater count. Its compact, rugged metal design should ensure durability and reliability
long after the 2233s warranty has ended.
INSTALLATION
Package should contain:
1. 2233 Media Converter
2. Power Supply
3. This User Manual
Special consideration should be given to maximum segment
lengths on each side of the 2233. It is strongly
recommended that IEEE 802.3 specifications for segment
distances be adhered to:
UTP (100BaseTX) = 100m
Multimode Fibre (100BaseFX) = 2 km
Singlemode Fibre (100BaseFX) = 15 km
The unit is fully compatible with IEEE 802.3u specifications for CSMA/CD
100Mbit/s operation.

UTP Crossover Capability
To provide maximum installation flexibility, there is a switch
located next to the RJ45 connector. This is a UTP crossover
switch that eliminates the need for a specially configured UTP
crossover cable. It allows a repeater or a non-repeater device
to be attached to the UTP segment side. This switch should be
toggled in both directions until you can see that the UTP TX
LINK LED (LED on the lower left) is illuminated.

Power Supply
The 2233 is powered by an external AC mains power cube.
This AC power supply must suit national requirements. Please
specify either 240V AC or 110V AC rating when ordering the
units. Connect the power supply output to the connector socket
on the 2233.
Diagnostics
When the media converter is in use, the LED indicators
will light as follows, from left to right.
LED Location Status
RX Left upper (TX) TX RECEIVE: Indicates that data is being
received.
LK Left lower (TX) TX LINK: Indicates the segment is linked.
ERR Centre Upper ERROR Indicates a packet was a runt
PWR Centre Lower POWER Indicates that the unit is receiving
power.
RX Right Upper (FX) FX RECEIVE: Indicates that data is being
received.
LK Right Lower (FX) FX LINK: Indicates the fibre segment is
linked.
