Congratulations, you now have in your possession one of the most advanced computer
desktop video-editing and compositing systems available on the marketplace. The
TARGA 3000 system is for the professional video composer who wants to create
broadcast quality video in either true uncompressed format, or in the DV or MPEG-2
formats. TARGA 3000 combines impeccable quality, format flexibility, and unmatched
video effects power. It brings to the desktop multichannel uncompressed video, multiple
CODECs with DV and MPEG-2, multiple DVEs, chroma keyer and color processors, and
a solution that provides graceful degradation for multiple streams of video.
Other features of the TARGA 3000 system are:
Note: MPEG-2 capture and editing is not available in the 1.0 software release of TARGA 3000. MPEG-2
export is available. MPEG-2 capture and editing is an integral part of the TARGA 3000 system, and will be
provided free of charge in an upcoming software release.
•Total Format Flexibility -- You can capture to the format of your choice with the unique
TARGA 3000 CODEC architecture which offers both uncompressed and compressed data
format support. Compressed formats include DV25 for native compatibility with DV
Camcorders/VTRs, and MPEG-2 for full 4:2:2 quality editing. Uncompressed formats include
D1 YUV and D1 RGBA. The D1 RGBA format makes the TARGA 3000 compatible with
almost all desktop animation and compositing systems for both video and key processing.
•Multi-Channel Playback -- On a certified Pinnacle Systems workstation, TARGA 3000 can
play back 3 streams of D1 uncompressed video in real time. TARGA 3000 can also playback 2
streams of compressed video in real time with on-board capability to move up to 4 streams.
TARGA 3000 can even playback multiple streams of video with animated keys.
Note: A list of certified TARGA 3000 system configurations can be found at the Customer Support
section of the Pinnacle Systems web site at: http://www.pinnaclesys.com
Introduction
Welcome To TARGA®3000

2 Introduction
•Graceful Degradation -- If there are more streams than the system can handle in real time,
then TARGA 3000’s unique memory-centric rendering architecture smoothly degrades the
video streams from real time. Complex projects will scrub and render to disk faster than on
any traditional stream-centric architecture.
•Advanced Effects Processing -- TARGA 3000 creates high-quality complex effects using
HUB3, Pinnacle’s ground breaking memory-centric 100 Mpixel/s video processing chip. With
HUB3 you can tackle complex multilayer editing and compositing in real time with sub-pixel
resizing, RGB chroma keying, and advanced color correction operating simultaneously on
multiple layers of video.
•Total Connectivity-- The TARGA 3000, and the TARGA 3000 family of professional quality
Breakout Boxes, provide a complete range of analog and digital Inputs/Outputs. These include
on-board DV 1394 (iLink) as well as serial digital and analog component/composite interfaces.
•Editing Application Flexibility -- The TARGA 3000 comes with the industry proven Adobe
Premiere editing application which features intuitive 3 point editing, dual source and program
windows, and a wide range of plug-ins and other creative tools. In addition, the TARGA 3000
package includes DV 1394 and frame accurate machine control via Pipeline Digital’s ProVTR
plug-in for Adobe Premiere. Also included with TARGA 3000 is Pinnacle Systems TitleDeko,
which is also a plug-in for Adobe Premiere. TitleDeko is a text editor program that features
extensive TrueType fonts and predefined styles which you can use to easily create professional
quality titles and graphics similar to those used in broadcast industries around the world.
•Advanced Compositing -- The TARGA 3000 comes with Commotion, an advanced
rotoscoping and compositing application. Additional information can be found in the
Commotion manual that accompanies your TARGA 3000 product.
