Preparation
Mount the PL data logger on the wall.
If necessary, use the enclosed installation material (screws and dowels).
For this purpose, observe the mounting holes provided for the data logger.
Wire the inverters and, if necessary, the meters, sensors and radio ripple control receivers
according to the enclosed plan for device connection assignment on the inverter or Figure
2.

3
Lay the communication cables of the inverters, meters, sensors and radio ripple control
receivers, if applicable, as well as the supply voltage from the enclosed power supply unit
into the lower connection area of the PL data logger (connection terminal 1+ 2). For the
supply cable into the connection area, you can optionally use the bendable openings in the
side of the housing.
Wire the green plug-in terminals included in the accessories with the supplied contacts
according to the connection diagram Figure 2.
Connect an active network cable to the Ethernet interface of the PL data logger.
Reconfiguration of a PL data logger
After successful wiring, supply the PL data logger with supply voltage via the power supply
unit according to the enclosed connection diagram. The PL data logger will now start.
After booting, you will enter the installation wizard during initial startup.

! Tip ! :

4
Before configuring the PL data logger, we recommend performing a firmware update. The
firmware of the PL data loggers is constantly being improved and further developed. With
an update, you ensure that you actually have the latest firmware version on your data
logger.
To do this, press the "Firmware update" button via the touch display (see Figure 3) with a
given Internet connection via the Ethernet interface: The following wizard will automatically
guide you through the update wizard.
!Attention!:
Do not perform any other actions on the data logger during the update process and do not
disconnect the data logger from the supply voltage during the update process. Interfering
with the update process may render the data logger unusable.
Tester identification
To ensure that the communication settings and wiring of the connected inverters, meters
and/or sensors have been made correctly before configuring the data logger, it is
recommended that the connected devices are identified by a tester. To do this, press the
"Tester identification" button via the touch display (see Figure 3). You will now be taken to
the tester identification wizard.
Steps 1
A total of up to six interfaces (depending on the model) are available. The first three
interfaces are RS485-capable. Alternatively, these interfaces can be used via Ethernet. In
step 2. you can integrate model-dependent devices via Ethernet. Please note that the
control function for inverters (active power and reactive power) is only available via the A, B
and, if necessary, C interfaces.
Figure 4:

5
Proceed as follows to activate an RS-485/ETH interface:
Example: An inverter bus with 10 x SMA inverters was connected to the RS-485-A port:
Press the "inactive" button under RS485-A. Now select "Inverter" and confirm. Under
RS485-A, select the manufacturer "SMA" and confirm.
Repeat this procedure for RS485-B and/or RS485-C (for PL500+) if required.
The RS485/ETH interface stress has been defined. Continue with "next".
Step 2
Depending on the model, additional ETH interfaces are available for additional devices.
Figure 5:

6
For use and setup please use the procedure described in step 1.
PLEX.IO

7
Devices that only have an RS485 interface can be made Ethernet-capable with the PLEX.IO
module.
For the setup they press the button "not available".
Figure 6:
Please start the search to display all PLEX.IO devices in the network.
Figure 7:

8
Based on the serial number, they can add the respective device to the appropriate interface.
Steps 3
Perform test/device detection
Figure 8:
To do this, start the recognition via the button at the bottom right.
The PL data logger requires a moment to detect all devices. In the "Status" column you can
see the number of devices detected so far during the search. If the correct number of
inverters/devices has been detected at the corresponding interface, press the "Skip" button
- this switches the detection to the next interface.
If all devices were detected as desired, return to the installation wizard via the "back"
button. From there, start the further configuration via "New installation".
If not all devices were detected as desired, please check the communication settings of the
devices and the wiring. You can restart the detection at any time using the "Repeat" button
at the bottom right.

9
New installation
To configure a new PV system monitoring, please press the "New installation" button via
the touch display (see Figure 3).
Step 1
First, authorize yourself and the new data logger:
Figure 9:
Enter the ID and password. You will find them on the sticker included in the delivery. If
these are not available or have been lost, please contact your PLEXLOG administrator or
the PLEXLOG hotline - you will receive a new ID and password without any problems.

10
Enter a plant name. This can be freely selected. Blanks and special characters are not
accepted. If possible, avoid using the same plant name more than once. This can lead to
confusion in your PLEXLOG portal overview.
Enter your reseller ID. If you do not know your Reseller ID, you can find it in PLEXLOG Portal
under "My Portal". Otherwise, please contact your PLEXLOG administrator or the PLEXLOG
hotline.
All fields must be filled in correctly. After successful input please press the "next" button.
Steps 2
Proceed with the definition/configuration of the interfaces as described for the
tester identification (p. 4 - 7).
Step 3:
Define any connected S0 counters. The PL data logger provides three S0 connection
options for you (see Figure 2 "Assignment of connection terminals").
Figure 10:

11
Proceed similarly to step 2. With the S0 meter connected to the S01 port, press the
"inactive" button. Select "Consumption meter". Continue with Confirm.
Enter the pulse factor of the S0 counter and confirm. The pulse factor of the S0 counter is
usually shown on the front of the counter.
Continue this procedure optionally for S02 and S03.
The S0 interface stress has been defined. Continue with "next".
Step 4
Start the device detection with "Start search".
Figure 11:
The PL data logger needs a moment to detect all devices. In the "Status" column you can
see the number of devices detected so far during the search. If the correct number of
inverters/devices has been detected at the corresponding interface, press the "Skip" button
- this switches the detection to the next interface.
If all devices have been detected successfully, please press the "Save and Finish" button.
The PL data logger restarts and resumes normal operation. If the Internet connection via

12
the Ethernet interface is active, the PL data logger will automatically synchronize with the
PLEXLOG server within the next 15 minutes.
All further configurations of the plant can be performed remotely via the PLEXLOG remote
configuration tool when the Internet connection is active. The remote configuration tool is
available for download in your PLEXLOG portal under "My Portal" -> "Downloads". Further
documentation material can be found at qr.plexlog.de in the latest version.
In order to immediately ensure that the communication to the server works, it is
recommended to perform a test via the "manual server synchronization". To do this, tap
"Configuration" in the top right of the display and select the "Manual server
synchronization" button in the right-hand column.
If there is no Internet connection, the necessary configurations must be made locally in the
menu of the PL data logger. Please also read the manual for the PLEXLOG PL series.
Restore when replacing a PL data logger
When replacing a defective PL data logger, for example, no historical yield data or
configuration settings need to be transferred from the old to the new PL data logger.
The PL data logger has a very practical function for this purpose when commissioning the
new PL data logger on an existing plant. Start the PL data logger (see Commissioning and
updating the PL data logger). The "Installation Wizard" of the PL data logger appears (see
Figure 3).
Press the "Restore" button via the touch display and make sure that the new PL data logger
is connected to the Internet via the Ethernet interface.
On the following page use the ID and password used by the exchanged data logger and
enter them. Confirm with "Synchronize from Internet". The PL data logger synchronizes
with the PLEXLOG server, sets itself up automatically and takes over the entire
configuration of the old PL data logger. The new PL data logger restarts itself after
successful synchronization and resumes normal operation.
If you do not know the ID and password, you can find this information in the settings area
for the system in your PLEXLOG portal. If you have any questions, your PLEXLOG
administrator or the PLEXLOG hotline will help you.
