Dear Customer,
Thank you for the confidence you have placed in POLTI
in buying this product. Before using it, we recommend that you fol-
low the operating instructions closely.
VAPORELLA 4500 R is one of the latest generation of professional
irons. Our team of design engineers has equipped it with features to
make it work even more safely and efficiently:
• The patented safety cap, a result of POLTI’s technology, which pre-
vents the device being opened (including by accident) if there is the
slightest pressure inside it.
• The capacity generator is made of Extra Al-P, a special aluminium
alloy which guarantees its long life and prevents limescale build up.
• The steam pressure is controlled by a pressostat and can be
varied at will with fingertip control.
• Vaporella is equipped with a safety valve, a safety thermostat and
an additional thermostat which prevents operation of the machine
when it is empty, and which maintains Vaporella in an absolutely
safe condition at all times.
This unit conforms with EC-directives 89/336 as amended
by 93/68 (EMC) and 73/23 as amended by 93/68
(low voltage).

• Before using your Vaporella carefully read these usage instructions.
• Before connecting Vaporella to the mains make sure that the current is the same as
indicated for the machine and that the plug is an earthed plug.
• Do not put any detergent or chemical substance in the tank.
Water by its nature contains magnesium, mineral salts and other deposits which in hard
water areas can contribute to limescale build up in the tank. To avoid these problems,
it is necessary to swill out with tapwater and empty the generator tank after every 3
or 4 uses.In very hard water areas we recommend the use of our KALSTOP TP 2000,
a special natural-base decalcifier which inhibits and breaks down limescale, making it
easy to remove just by swilling out the tank with a little tapwater. This is a preventive
against scale build-up and protects the metal walls of the steam generator tank. KAL-
STOP is available from Polti dealers or by mail-order from your Polti Service Centre.
• Switching on the appliance, be sure that the button for continuous steam jet has not
been activated.
• Do not refill the tank while it is still hot, allow it to cool down for a few minutes before
refilling.
• During filling and refilling we recommend you to disconnect the appliance from the
mains supply.
• Never empty Vaporella when the water inside the generator tank is still hot.
• Do not place the appliance in water or in any other liquids.
• Do not touch the appliance with wet hands or feet whilst the appliance is connected
to the mains.
• Never leave the appliance unattended whilst it is connected to the mains.
• Do not allow Vaporella to be used by children or by people who are not familiar with
the usage instructions.
• We recommend that the appliance is disconnected from the mains whenever it is not
in use.
• When REfilling the generator tank, use HOT rather than cold water, pour in gently at
first and keep your face away. Otherwise the still hot tank walls can spit drops of very
hot water or steam spray.
• Do not leave the appliance exposed to wind or rain.
• Do not lay the hot appliance on surfaces sensitive to heat.
• Do not use electric extension leads that are not authorized by the manufacturer, as
they may cause damage or fire.
• In case of breakdown or malfunction switch off the appliance and never attempt to
disassemble it, but refer to an authorized service center.
• In case of accidental fall of the appliance it is necessary to have it checked by an autho-
rized service center as the internal safety features may have been affected.
• Never direct the jet of steam towards small particles of debris without first protecting
the user’s eyes.
• Do not force the cap open when the appliance is operating.
• ATTENTION: if you iron sitting down, do not place your legs under the ironing board,
the steam can cause burns.

Before leaving our factory all our products are rigorously tested.
However, your VAPORELLA may contain some residual water in the boiler.

1. Insert the cable stand (M) in its location (fig. 1).
2. Place the cable (iron power supply - steam tube) (E) in its
support (fig. 2). The appliance is also equipped with a
rigid iron rest (F) which can be removed and put
elsewhere as required.
3. Unscrew the patented safety cap (A) and fill the boiler
with about 1.3 litres of water using the special funnel
(I) making sure that it does not overflow (fig. 3).
Normal tapwater can be used. However, as hard water
by its nature contains limestone, which may cause a
build-up of limescale in the tank, in hard water areas we
recommend the use of our natural-base decalcifier
KALSTOP TP 2000.
4. Retighten the cap fully and carefully.
5. Connect the power supply cable (D) into an earthed
power supply of the correct voltage.
6. Switch on the boiler and iron by pressing the switches
(B) and (C) which will light up together with the pressure
indicator light (K).

7. Set the iron temperature to the “COTTON - LINEN”
steam position (fig. 5), by turning the knob (G). All types
of fabric can be ironed at this temperature.
When dry ironing, set the knob (G) to the required tem-
perature for the fabric, shown on the rotating indicator.
8. Wait for the pressure indicator light (K) to go out (about
15 minutes). Push button (H) on the iron to release
bursts of steam from the holes on the soleplate.
Release the button and the steam will stop (fig. 6).
NOTE: during initial operation of the iron, a few drops
of water mixed with steam may come out of the sole-
plate until the temperature stabilises. It is advisable to
direct the first jets of steam onto an old cloth until a uni-
form stable jet of steam is obtained.
9. In order to have a continuous steam jet, move the
button (J) forwards. Steam will keep on coming out,
even releasing the button. To interrupt the outlet, move
the button (J) backwards (fig. 7).
10. By turning the steam flow control knob (L) you can vary
the amount of steam according to the type of textile to
be ironed (more or less delicate). You can use this con-
trol to increase the steam flow by turning in anti-clock-
wise direction. Turning the control in a clockwise direc-
tion reduces the steam flow (fig. 8).

All Polti machines are equipped with the unique Polti patented safety cap, which prevents
opening of the generator tank as long as there is any pressure remaining inside the tank.
This is an important and indispensable safety device, and it is necessary to follow certain
procedures when re-filling the tank.
Whenever when you have used up all the water in the tank, do as follow :
1a. Switch off the machine at the generator on/off switch (B).
2a. Press the steam request button on the iron (H) so as to fully exhaust the steam
supply from the tank.
3a. Disconnect the power supply cable (D) from the mains.
4a. Unscrew anti-clockwise the patented safety cap (A).
5a. Wait for a few minutes to allow the generator tank to cool down.
6a. When cool proceed to carefully refill the tank as described in paragraph 3 of the sec-
tion “PREPARATION FOR USE” in the instructions. If refilling the generator when not
completely cooled, we recommend that you carefully pour only very small quantities
of water at each pouring into the tank, so as to avoid spitting from the tank.

• Do not leave the iron unattended whilst connected to the mains.
• Iron only on heat resistant surfaces and on surfaces that allow the steam to escape
e. g. mash ironing boards.
• Ensure the patented safety cap is fully and correctly screwed on, otherwise you may
experience steam escaping from around the cap.
• The pressure indicator light (K) may go on and off from time to time during use of
Vaporella. This indicates the machine maintaining the correct and constant pressure
and is quite normal.
• If no steam is released from the iron, check the following: the switch (K) is lit up; there
is water in the boiler; the steam control switch (L) is set to one of the “Steam” settings.
• If repairs or replacement parts are required, and in particular the special safety cap,
use only original Polti replacement parts.
• The appliance is fitted with a safety thermostat, which should only be replaced by an
authorised technician.
• If it is necessary to replace the power supply cable, please refer to the nearest Polti
authorised service centre, since the use of special tool is necessary.
• If you accidentally drop your iron, you should have it checked by an authorized Polti
Service Centre because some internal malfunctionings might have occured, limiting the
safety of the product.
•In the case of breakdown or malfunction do not attempt to repair the
appliance yourself but refer to your nearest authorised service centre.

•Before attempting any maintenance operation, be sure to always disconnect
the appliance from the mains.
• Normal tapwater can be used. However, as hard water by its nature contains limestone,
which may cause a build-up of limescale in the tank, in hard water areas we recom-
mend the use of our natural-base decalcifier KALSTOP TP 2000.
• To clean the body of the appliance, simply use a moist cloth. Do not use solvents or
detergents which may harm the body material.
•Polti declines liability for any damage or accident derived from any use of
Vaporella which is not in conformity with the instructions contained in this
booklet.

To achieve perfect ironing using conventional irons, you have to iron the fabric several
times with the hot iron to dry all residual moisture. The Stira e Aspira PRO, the revolu-
tionary New-Concept professional ironing board by Polti, is heated and incorporates a
vacuum-press for effortless professional results.
Perfect ironing is dependent on these two characteristics: the suction which locks the gar-
ment on the board, so preventing the formation of annoying wrinkles which are so diffi-
cult to eliminate on conventional ironing boards, and the heated board which dries the
fabrics and makes ironing easier, faster and less laborious.
