ignitionswitchinvitescartheft.
Asteeringwheellockanda gong
alarmarestandardequipmentinyour
Porsche.Thegongwillsoundifyou
openthedriver'sdoorwhilethekey
isstillintheignitionlock.Itisyourre-
mindertopullthekeyoutoftheigni-
tionlockandtolockthedoors.
WARNING
Alwaysremovetheignitionkey,
especiallyifchildrenareleftunat-
tendedinthevehicle.Unsupervised
useofanyvehiclekeymaycause
seriouspersonalinjury.
NEVERleaveyourvehicleunat-
tendedwiththekeyintheignition
lock.Takethekeyandlockthe
doors.

Threekeysaresuppliedwiththevehicle.Each
fitstheignitionlock,doorlocks,hatchbacklock,
fuelfillercaplockandglovecompartmentlock.
Thereisoneflatkeywhichyoucankeepin
yourpurseorwallet,forinstance,asan"emer-
gencykey".Ifyouremovetheplasticheadof
theflatkey,youcancliponanilluminatedpla-
stichandle(availablefromyourPorschedea-
ler).Vehicleswitha rearseatclovecompart-
mentreceivetwoadditionalkeysforthe
compartmentlock.
WARNING
NEVERremovethekeyfromthesteering
lockwhileyouaredrivingorasthecaris
rollingtoastop.Thesteeringcolumnwill
lockwhenyouremovethekey,andyou
willnotbeabletosteerthecar.Thismay
resultina seriousaccident.
Becauseofthesymmetricalshapeofthekey
shaft,thereisno"wrong"wayofinsertingthe
keyinthelocks.
Thenewformatofthekeysmakesunautho-
rizedduplicationofthekeysvirtuallyimpos-
sible.Thismeans,however,thatyouyour-
selfwillnotbeabletogetreplacementkeys
cut,unlessorderedfromthemanufacturer.
Forvehiclesequippedwithlockablewheelnuts,
threeidenticalkeys,plusfourwheelnutswith
locksleeve,areincluded.Whentakingthe
vehicletoyourPorschedealerortoa work-
shopforwheelortireservice,rememberto
leaveonekeywiththeserviceattendant.
Incaseofloss,duplicatewheellookkeys
cannotbefurnishedbyyourPorschedealer.
Donotleavethesekeysinthevehicle.Keep
theminasafeplace.

Keynumber
Thekeynumberoftheignitionkeyisim-
pressedonaplastictagwhichcomeswiththe
keys.Detachthistagandkeepitinasafeplace.
Foryourprotectionagainsttheft:
•Recordthekeynumbersandkeepthemin
asafeplace,suchasyourwallet.Donot
keeptheminthevehicle.
•Ifyoushouldlosea key,provideyour
Porschedealerwiththekeynumberand
thevehicleidentificationnumbertoobtain
aduplicatekey.•
Keylight
Twoofthekeyshaveabuilt-inflashlightinthe
keyhead.Thebeamfromasmallbulbinthe
keyheadilluminatesthelowerpartofthekey
stem.
Theflashlightisonaslongasthecontactbut-
tonisdepressed.
Theflashlightispoweredbya1.5Voltbutton
battery.Whenthebeambeginstofade,re-
placethebattery,becauseanoldbattery
mayleakanddamageyourclothes.

tocarefullyliftthekeyhandlecover.
2.Insertanew,commercialavailablebattery
(1.5V)inthecontactbutton.

untilthekeyisturnedfurthertotheleft.
Thealarmsystemisswitchedoffautomati-oriftheignitionisswitchedonwhilethealarm
callywhena doororthehatchbackisopenedisactivateda speciallyprotectedsirenwill
withtheS-key.Ifthehatchbackisopenedsoundforabout30seconds.Theenginecan-
whilethealarmsystemisswitchedon,thenotbestarted.

Ifthedriver'sorpassengersidedoor,engineKeepplastictagwithkeynumberinasafe

Thecentraldoorlockingsystemenablesyou
tolockorunlockbothdoorssimultaneously
byoperatingonedoorlock.
Thecentraldoorlockingsystemfunctions
onlywhenbothdoorsarefullyclosed.Ifone
dooris"centrally"lockedbeforetheother
doorisfullyclosed,the"centrally"lockeddoor
willunlockautomatically.
Thecarissafelylockedwhenlockingknob"A"
isfullydownonbothdoors.Iflockingknob"A"
isnotfullydownononedoor,openthatdoor
again,closeitfirmlyandrepeatthelocking
operation.
Ona centrallylockedvehicle,thepassenger
doorcanalsobeunlockedandlockedfrom
insidebyturninglockingknob"B".Locking
knob"B"isoperationalonlywithdoorfully
closed.
WiththeignitionkeyinPos."1"or"2"both
doorscanbelockedorunlockedbypres-

closed.Thelightsgooutimmediatelyifthe
ignitionisswitchedonorthevehiclelocked
withthekey.

Theinteriorlightintheheadliningandthe

lightsareoperatedbytheswitchintegrated
inthelight.

Theredspotlightsinthereardoorjambswill
comeonwhena doororthehatchbackis
opened.
Powerwindows
Toopenorclose,depresstherockerswitches
inthecenterconsoleinfrontoftheshiftlever.
Thepowerwindowsareoperationalwhenthe
ignitionisturnedon.
Whentheignitionisturnedoffortheignition
keyremoved,thepowerwindowscanbe
operateduntilonedoorisopened.
WARNING
Donotputanythingonornearthewin-
dowsthatmayinterferewiththedriver's
vision.
Removetheignitionkeytoshutoffpower
tothewindowswitcheswhenthevehicle
isnotattendedbya responsibleperson.
Remember,powerisstillsuppliedtothe
windowswitchesuntilonedoorisopened.

Frontseatadjustments
Thecorrectseatingpositionisall-important
forsafeandfatigue-freedriving.Inorderto
satisfyindividualrequirements,theseathas
infinitelyvariableadjustment.
Werecommendthefollowingprocedurefor
findingthecorrectpositionforthedriver'sseat:
1.Operatelongitudinaladjustmentuntilyour
legisfullystretchedwiththeclutchpedal
depressedwhileyourfootisbent.
2.Adjustdesiredfore/aftheight.
3.Claspupperportionofsteeringwheel.Then
adjustbackrestinclinationsothatboth
shouldersremainincontactwiththeback-
restevenwithyourarmsfullystretched.
4. Ifnecessary,correctthelongitudinaladjust-
ment.
Steeringwheeladjustment
Formaximumlegroomandunobstructedview
oftheinstruments,theheightofthesteering
wheel,togetherwiththeinstrumentcluster
unit,canbeadjusted.
Releaselockingleverunderinstrumentcluster
fordesiredpositioning(arrow),thenlockse-
curely.

Theseatpositionmemorycanstoreupto
threedifferentsittingpositionsforthedriver's
andpassengerseats.Eachpositionstored
inthememorycompriseslongitudinaladjust-
ment,seatheight,backrestangle,position
andsizeoflumbarsupportandtheposition
oftheoutsidemirrors.Thepositionscanbe
adjusted,storedorcalledupregardlessof
whethertheengineisonoroff.
Selectinga position
Adjusttheseatandthetwooutsidemirrors
tothedesiredpositionbyoperatingthe
switchesforseatandmirroradjustment.
Storinga position
Tostorea positioninthememory,pressthe
memorybutton(arrowed)andtheapprop-
riatepositionbutton(button1,2 or3).The
memorybuttonmustbepressedbeforethe
positionbutton.
Callingupa position
Tosettheseattothepositionstoredinthe
memory,theappropriatepositionbuttonmust
bedepresseduntiltheseatreachesitsfinal
position.Theprocedureiscurtailedassoon
asthebuttonisreleased.Thebuttonsare
illuminatedforeaselocation.
Oncetheseatreachesitsendpositionthe
mirrorsaresetautomaticallytothepositions
storedinthememory.
Theseatswitchesalwaystakepriority
overautomaticadjustment.Ifaseatswitch
isoperated,automaticadjustmentisim-
mediatelyinterrupted.
Pilotlamp
Aredpilotlampissetinthememorybutton.
Ifadjustmentisinitiated,thepilotlamplights
upuntiltheadjustmentiscompleted.Ifthe
procedureisinterrupted,thelampremains
litandgoesoutonlysome60secondsafter
theignitionisswitchedoff.

Longitudinaladjustmentandbackrestadjust-
mentarecarriedoutmanuallyonsports
seats.
Tomovetheseatbackwardsandforwards,
pulltheoutsidelockingleveratthefrontof
theseatupwards,moveseatintodesiredpo-
sition,releaseleverandensurethattheseat
engagessecurely.
Neverunlockthedriver'sseatwhilethe
vehicleisinmotion:theseatmaymove
suddenly,causingyoutoloosecontrol
overthevehicle.
Inordertoadjustthebackrest,pulltheinside
lockingleveratthefrontoftheseatupwards,
setseattodesiredpositionandreleasethe
lever.
Whenthereisnoloadonthebackrest,itwill
alwaysbepushedforwardsbyspringforce
whentheleverispulled.
Backrestrelease
Thebackrestcanbefoldedforwardforeasy
accesstotherearseats.Torelease,pullthe
leveronthesideofthebackrestup(arrow)
and,atthesametime,tiltthebackrestforward.
Whenthebackrestistiltedback,thelockwill
engageautomatically.
WARNING
Frontseatpassengersshouldnotrideina
movingvehiclewiththebackrestreclined.
Safetybeltsonlyofferprotectionwhenthe
backrestisuprightandthebeltsareprop-
erlypositionedonthebody.Improperly
positionedsafetybeltscancauseserious
personalinjuryinanaccident.
Rearseats-luggagecompartment
Thebackrestsoftherearseatscanbetilted
forwardtoprovideadditionalluggagespace.
Unsnaptheluggagecompartmentcoverfrom
theuprightrearseatbackrestsandtherear
crosswall.
Toreleasebackrest,pulltheleveronsideof
thebackrestupand,atthesametime,tiltthe
backrestforward.
