Owners Manual and Limited Warranty
Powell Simulation LLC - document version 3/11/2022

Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of a PowellColorBox Ambiance Mood Panel decorative
illuminated fixture.
Please read these instructions entirely before unpacking the display.
The appliance consists of three components : the display unit, the remote control device, and the
power supply. The PowellColorBox Ambiance Mood Panel is intended for wall hanging, but it can
be converted to self-standing fixture using the optional stand which must be purchased
separately.
Safety
The PowellColorBox decorative appliance should only be used indoors in dry environments.
Using the fixture in damp environments will compromise the life of the electronics and potentially
place the user at risk of electric shock.
The fixture should be mounted in a secure location. If the fixture is mounted on a wall, the
attachment points should have sufficient strength to hold the weight of the device (15 lbs).
If the Ambiance Mood Panel is used in a free-standing mode, it should be placed in a location
such that it would not be inadvertently knocked over by a passing person or pet.
The Ambiance Mood Panel cannot be mounted to a ceiling.
Care should be taken that people are not soiling the projection screen with food materials or
markers. It may be prudent to locate the fixture out of reach.
The installation of a PowellColorBox Ambiance Mood Panel should be done by two people to
avoid any injuries related to over-extension or loss of balance.
Only use the 5vt DC power supply that comes with the appliance to power the Ambiance Mood
Panel. Using another power supply could present a fire or safety hazard.
Un-packing
The shipping carton contains the following items : Ambiance Mood Panel fixture, bag containing
mounting hardware, power supply, remote control.
Removing the fixture from the packaging should be done by two people to avoid any injuries due
to over-extension or loss of balance.
Finding a good location for installation.
The PowellColorBox Ambiance Mood Panel should not be mounted in direct sunlight, or in places
where bright lights are shining directly uponthe fixture. The light display ofthe fixture will be more
beautiful if the amount of ambient light can be kept to a minimum.

The fixture can be used in a store front display to attract the attention of potential customers, but
it may not be effective during certain day time hours of direct sunlight.
The fixture should not be located where it could be knocked over by passing people or pets, or in
areas that may be conducive to people inadvertently fouling the device project screen.
Wall mounting
The PowellColorBox Ambiance Mood Panel is supplied with a pre-mounted support wire intended
for hanging the fixture in a vertical orientation. Care must be taken that the wall mounting point
can safely manage the weight of the fixture which is 11.4 lbs (5.2 kg). One should use either a
sturdy wood screw secured directly in a wall stud or use the dry-wall mount device which is
supplied with the fixture.
The Ambiance Mood Panel can also be mounted in a horizontal orientation. This done using the
Eagle “Z” clips which are supplied with the fixture. The Z clips must first be attached to the back
of the fixture using the four wood screw which are supplied. Then the other two “Z” clips must be
attached to the wall such that the clips are 35 ¼” (895 mm) apart as measured edge to edge, or
37 ¼” (946 mm) apart as measured from clip center to clip center.
Mount the Eagle Clips to the wall in the desired location using fasteners which are appropriate for
the specific wall material.
The distance between the Eagle Clips should be according to the chart below. The mounting
distances are given in both center to center, and as distance between the inside edges of the
clips.
It is important that the clips are installed along a horizontal line which is level. The best way to
achieve this is to draw a line on the wall using a carpenter’s level. If a level is not available,
then measure the mounting height of each clip from either the floor, ceiling, or other known level
reference.
Please note that the power cord should be attached to the wall using a convenient mounting
system such as D-Line Cord Cover or Legrand WireMould. The cable supplied with the fixture,
and the power supply itself, are not intended for installation within walls.
Set up for free-standing application using the optional floor stand
The Ambiance Mood Panel can be used in a self standing fashion through the use of the optional
floor stand.
The Floor stand consists of a base, two connecting rods, and mounting panel.
The floor stand should be assembled first. Start by inserting the two rods into the base unit,
twisting the rods until they are fully seated, then slip the mounting panel onto the exposed ends
of the two rods, and press it firmly into place.
The easiest manner to attach the floor stand to the Ambiance Mood Panel is to lay the fixture face
down on a table or other elevated surface such that the bottom of the fixture is near an edge of

the table. Take car to first lay a towel on the table so that neither the table or the fixture are
scratched in the process. Then attach the mounting plate to the fixture using the four fasteners
provided with the floor stand. Afterwards, it should be possible to move the assembled fixture
and floor stand to the desired location on the floor.
Connecting the power supply
The power supply is connected to the appliance by plugging the jack from the power supply into
the receptacle on the cord from the fixture.
It is important to use the power supply which comes with the Ambiance Mood Panel.
Using a different power supply may damage the appliance and void the warranty.
It is also important that the power supply can be unplugged, or that it is fed through some type of
switch, so that power to the appliance can be turned off. It may be necessary to briefly turn off
the power to the appliance in order to reset its internal computer.
It is not acceptable to add additional length of wire after the power supply. This will cause a loss
of voltage at the fixture, and interfere with its proper operation. If longer wires are needed, please
contact PowellColorBox.com to obtain advice on how this can be done.
Using the remote control
The Ambiance Mood Panel comes with a remote control which works using a radio signal much
like what is used by garage door openers. The signal will control any Ambiance Mood Panel
within proximity, so it allows several of the fixtures to be controlled at once. The signal may even
reach fixtures located in an adjacent room, but the reliability of the signal generally decreases
with distance.
The layout of the remote control device is shown below.

The top row of the remote contains buttons to make the display brighter or dimmer. The display
blinks, off then on, eachtime the BRIGHT or DIM button is pressed. The unit will blink twice when
the unit is at full brightness.
The top row also contains an OFF button to turn the LED lights off. Pressing any continuous color
or effect button will turn the unit back on.
The next five rows of the remote contain buttons which set the display to a continuous color
indicated by the color of the button.
The bottom five rows has buttons for special effects. These effects are:
•chase –solid colors replace each other at timed intervals
•climb –a rainbow of colors moves up both sides of the display
•dream –a rainbow of colors rotates around the field
•round –two entities orbit the panel while changing colors
•rainbow –the field steps through colors of the rainbow
•back / forth –bands of complimentary colors alternate over time
•random –random colors appear at random locations on the panel
•fall –white lights fall downward against a blue background
•collide –two comets collide and bounce while changing colors
•sparkle –points of white light appear briefly on the field
•color sparkle - points of random colors appear briefly on the display
•tunnel –rainbow colors form from the center of the panel

•melt –blue light collects and falls from the top of the field
•lava –red light collects and floats from the bottom of the display
•cartwheel –a four colored wheel rotates around the panel
•breathing –a soothing field of blue transitions in and out of darkness
•cascade –a waterfall of blue, white, and green colors

must be done by Powell Simulation LLC.
The exterior of the appliance can be cleaned with a dry cloth, or with a cloth which is slightly

damage the plastic projection screen. A slightly damp cloth can be used, but the unit should be
