D. We recommend wearing gloveswhile using the Log Splitter. Be sure your glovesfit
properlyand do nothave loose cuffsordrawstrings.
E. Wear shoeswith non-slip treadswhen using yourLog Splitter. Ifyou have safetyshoes,
we recommend wearing them. Do notuse the machinewhile barefootor wearing open
sandals.
F. Wear long pants while operating the Log Splitter.
G. Use ear protectorsorear plugsrated foratleast 20dba to protectyourhearing.
H. Keep bystandersatleast 50feetaway fromyour workarea atall times. Stop the engine
when another personor petapproaches.
SafetyforChildren and Pets
WARNING
Tragicaccidents canoccurifthe operator isnotalerttothe presenceofchildren and pets.
Childrenare oftenattracted tothe machine and the splitting activity. Never assumethat

children will remainwhereyou last sawthem.Alwaysfollowtheseprecautions:
A. Keep children and pets atleast 50 feetfromthe working area and ensure theyare under
the watchfulcare ofa responsible adult.
B. Be alertand turn the machine offifchildren orpets enter the workarea.
C. Never allowchildren to operate the Log Splitter.
SafetywithGasoline - Powered Machines
WARNING
Gasoline isahighlyflammableliquid. Gasoline alsogivesoffflammablevapor thatcanbe
easilyignited andcauseafire orexplosion. Neveroverlookthe hazardsofgasoline. Always
followtheseprecautions:
A. Neverrun the engineinanenclosed areaorwithoutproper ventilation astheexhaust
fromtheengine containscarbonmonoxide,whichisan odorless,tasteless,and adeadly
poisonousgas.
B. Store all fueland oil incontainersspecificallydesigned andapproved forthispurpose
and keep awayfromheatand open flame, and outofthe reach ofchildren.
C. Replacerubber fuellinesand grommets whenwornor damaged and after5yearsof
use.
D. Fill the gasoline tankoutdoorswiththe engine offand allowthe engine tocool
completely. Don't handlegasoline ifyou or anyone nearby issmoking, or ifyou're near
anything thatcouldcauseit toigniteor explode. Reinstall the fueltankcap and fuel
container cap securely.
E. Ifyou spill gasoline, do notattempttostartthe engine. Movethe machine awayfrom
the areaofthespill andavoidcreatinganysource ofignition until the gasvaporshave
dissipated. Wipe upany spilled fueltopreventafire hazard and properlydisposeofthe
waste.
F. Allowthe engine tocoolcompletelybefore storing inanyenclosure. Never store a
machine thathasgasinthetank,or afuelcontainer,near an open flameor sparksuch
asa water heater, space heater, clothesdryer or furnace.
G. Nevermakeadjustments or repairswiththeenginerunning. Shutdownthe engine,
disconnectthesparkplugwire, keeping it awayfromthesparkplug toprevent
accidentalstarting, wait 5 minutesbeforemaking adjustments or repairs.
H. Nevertamper withthe engine’sgovernor setting. Thegovernor controlsthe maximum
safeoperation speed and protects the engine. Over-speeding theengine isdangerous
and will causedamage tothe engine andtotheothermoving parts ofthe machine. If
required,see your authorized dealer for engine governor adjustments.
I. Keep combustible substancesaway fromthe engine when it ishot.
J. Never cover the machine while the muffler isstill hot.
K. Donotoperatethe enginewiththe aircleaner orthe carburetor airintakecover
removed. Removalofsuchparts couldcreateafire hazard. Donotuseflammable
solutionsto clean the airfilter.

L. The mufflerandenginebecome very hotand can cause a severeburn;do nottouch.
GeneralSafety
WARNING
Operating thisLogSplitter safelyisnecessary topreventor minimize the riskofdeathor
seriousinjury. Unsafeoperation can createanumberofhazardsfor you. Alwaystakethe
following precautionswhen operating thisLog Splitter:
A. YourLogSplitter isapowerfultool,notaplaything. Exerciseextremecautionatall
times. The machine isdesigned to split logs.Donotuseit for any other purpose.
B. Knowhowto stop the Log Splitter quickly;see “stopping the engine”inPartIII.
C. Neveroperateyour unit on aslippery, wet,muddy, or icy surface. Exercisecaution to
avoid slipping or falling.
D. See manufacturer’sinstructionsforproper operation and installation ofaccessories.
E. Never use the machine withoutensuring thatall guardsand shieldsare inplace.
F. Never, underanyconditions,remove,bend,cut,fit,weld,orotherwisealter standard
parts on the Log Splitter. Thisincludesall shieldsand guards.Modificationstoyour
machine couldcausepersonalinjuriesand propertydamage and will invalidyour
warranty.
G. Allowonly one person tooperate theLog Splitter atany time.
H. Ifthemachine starttomakean unusualnoiseorvibrate, shutdowntheengine,
disconnectthesparkplugwire, keeping it awayfromthesparkplug toprevent
accidentalstarting, wait5minutesfor enginetocooldown,theninspectfordamage.
Vibration isgenerallyawarning oftrouble. Checkdamaged parts and clean,repair
and/or replace asnecessary.
I. Never tamper with safety devices. Checktheir proper operation regularly.
J. Before performing any maintenanceor inspection procedure on the Log Splitter shut
downtheengine,disconnectthe sparkplug wire keeping it awayfromthe sparkplug to
preventaccidentalstarting, wait 5 minutesfor machine to cooldown.
K. Neverallowpeoplewhoareunfamiliar withtheseinstructionstousetheLogSplitter.
Allowonlyresponsibleindividualswhoare familiar withtheserulesofsafeoperation to
use your machine.
L. Neveroverload or attempttosplit logsbeyondthe manufacturer’srecommendation. It
could result inpersonalinjury or damage to themachine.
M. Whileusingthe LogSplitter, don't hurryortakethingsforgranted. Whenindoubt
aboutthe equipmentor your surroundingsstop themachine and taketimetolook
thingsover.
N. Never operate the machine when under the influenceofalcohol, drugs,or medication.
O. Use themachine only indaylight.
P. Stay alertfor hidden hazardsor traffic.
Q. Keep all nuts and boltstightand keep the equipmentin good operating condition.

*The diameter listed isindicative ofthe maximumsuggested size -a small log canbe difficult
to split whenit containsknots or a particularly tough fiber. On the other hand, it may notbe
difficult to split logswithregular fiberseven ifitsdiameter exceedsthe maximumindicated
above.

It may be helpfultobetterfamiliarize yourselfwiththe featuresofyourLogSplitterby
reviewing Figure 1 in PARTII before beginning the stepsoutlined in thischapter.
WARNING
A. Read and understand all instructions, safetyprecautions, and/orwarningslisted in
“PARTI: GeneralSafetyRules”before operating the LOG SPLITTER. Ifany doubtor
question arisesaboutthe corrector safe method ofperforming anything foundin this
manual, please contactthe dealersin your area.
B. Whenoperating the LogSplitter, make sure you are standing in the safe operating
area (OPERATORZONE). You must stay in the safeoperating area atall timeswhen
the ramisin motion (whether extending or retracting). Never place any partofyour
body intoa position thatcausesan unsafe operatingcondition.
C. Before loading and operating the Log Splitter, alwayswear protective gear,including
safetygoggles,hearing protection, tight-fitting gloveswithoutdrawstringsor loose
cuffs,and steel-toed shoes.
D. Knowing the correctand incorrectmethodsofsplitting logs.Never split a log using an
incorrectorunsafemethod.
Starting
1. Position yourLog Splitteron flat, dry ground, and then stop the frontwheelwith brake,
make sure the machine cannotbe moved.
2. Make sure the fuelshut-off valve isin the “ON”position.
3. Move the chokecontrollevertothe “CHOKE”position (shouldonlybeneededifthe
engine iscold).
4. Move the throttle controlleverto the “FAST”position.
5. Recoil Start: Turn the Ignition Switch tothe “On”position. Graspthe recoil starter
handleand slowlypull untilyou feelresistance. Letthecord retractalittlebit then pull
the cord rapidly tostartthe engine. One ortwo pullsusually starts the engine.
6. ElectricStart: Turn andholdthe Key inthe startposition until Engine starts then let
the Key return to run position.
7. Movethechokecontrollever(if usedforcoldengine)slowlybacktothe “RUN”
position when the engine isrunningwell.
8. Ifthe Log Splitterhasnotbeen running (coldengine),warmup the engine by running
the engine athalfthrottlefor3to4minutes,then advance the enginethrottlecontrolto
the maximumspeed.

Stopping
1. Move theThrottleLevertoIDLE.
2. Recoil Start: Turn the Ignition Switch to the OFFposition.
3. Electric Start: Turn the Key to the OFFposition.
OperatorZone
Log Splitter OPERATION
NOTICE
All logsshouldbe no longer than 24".
WARNING
Donotplaceyour handsontheendsofthelogwhenloading the LogSplitter. Thisisavery
UNSAFEmethod and could result in injuryto your hands.
Do notreach or step acrossthe rail while the Log Splitter isrunning. Thisisa very UNSAFE
method whichcouldcausepersonalinjury, even death.
Donotreachforwardandattempttocatchthe split woodAsthelogisbeingsplit -letit fall
to the ground.
CAUTION
Neverattempttosplit wood across thegrain.TheLogSplitter wasnotdesigned for
cross-grain splitting. Doingso coulddamage the LogSplitter and may causepersonalinjury.
Makesure bothendsofthelog thatyou are splitting are cutassquare aspossible. Thiswill
preventthe log fromsliding outofposition when under pressure

1. Place the log on the Log Splitter. Grasp the log on the sidesnearthe middle oftheblock.
Centerthelog, side-to-side,on the rail ofthe Log Splitter,making surethatone end is
against the Splitting Wedge.
2. Withonehand on the Leverandtheotherhandpushthestartball,andthenpull the
handlelevertothe “SPLIT”,andthentakeaway yourhandsassoonaspossible,
otherwisethe handleleverwill hit yourhandswhenit isretracted from “SPLIT”to
“AUTO-RETRACT”.
SplittingToughLogs
Ifthe Ramstopsbeforetheend ofthe strokewhilesplitting atough Log, the engine will be
stopped,andthen youpushtherecoverbuttonwhen youdownthecontrolhandle, theram
will be back,ifthe ramcannotbeback,you can puttherambackwithyourhands,andthen
restartthe engine, and split again, themachine shouldsplit the log.
Regularmaintenance isthe way toensurethe bestperformance and long lifeofyour
machine. Pleaserefertothismanualand the engine manufacturer'susermanualfor
maintenance procedures.
WARNING
Before performing anymaintenanceprocedure or inspection, stopthe engine,wait five
minutestoallowall parts tocool.Disconnectthesparkplug wire,keeping it away fromthe
sparkplug. Disconnectthe Battery Terminals(Electric startonly).

Most problemsareeasytofix. Consult the Troubleshooting Tablebelowforcommon
problemsand theirsolutions.Ifyou continue toexperience problems,contactthe dealersin
yourarea.
