YourAPS-20BVehicleAlarm System has many features and available options some of which
mustbe selected attime of installation. Foryour reference,thelist onthe back pageof this
manual shows what features and options have been installed with this particular system.
Consultyourinstalling dealer foroptionsthatmay have been installedandarenot listed.
ARMINGTHESYSTEM -ACTIVE
1.Turn the engineoff, exit thevehicle and closeall doors.
2.Pressand release thelockbutton of yourkeychain transmitter onetime.
The parking lights will flash once, the siren will chirp once, and the dash mounted LED will
begintoflashslowlyconfirming the system isarmed. Ifyouhavetheoptionaldoorlock/unlock
circuitinstalled, the doorswillalso lock.
SILENTARMING- ACTIVE
1.Turn the engineoff, exit thevehicle and closeall doors.
2.Press andhold the lockbutton ofyour key chain transmitter fortwo seconds.
The parking lights will flash once and the dash mounted LED will begin to flash slowly
confirmingthe system isarmed. The siren willnot chirp. If youhave the optionaldoor lock/
unlockcircuit installed, thedoorswill lock.
ARMINGTHESYSTEM - PASSIVE(AUTOMATIC)
Ifthe passive armingfeaturehas been selected:
Turnthe engine off,exit the vehicleand close alldoors.
The dash mounted LED will immediately begin to flash rapidly indicating that the 30 second
passivearmingtimerhasbegun. IftheLEDdoesnotbegin to flash rapidly,then youhaveleft
adoor, hoodortrunk ajar. Closingthis entrypointwillallow the armingcycleto begin. If any
entrypointisopenedduringthe30secondarmingcycle,armingwillbesuspended. Whenall
entrypoints are closed,the arming cyclewillbegin again. At theend of the30 seconds, the
parkinglightswillflashonce,thesiren will chirp once and thedashmountedLEDwillbeginto
flashslowlyconfirmingthesystemis armed. If the sirendidnotsoundwhenarming,thenthe
chirps have been turned off. Please refer to the section titled "Eliminating the Arm/Disarm
Chirps" later in this manual. Passive door locking is a selectable feature. If you have the
optionaldoorlock/unlockcircuitinstalled,thedoorsmayormaynotlockpassivelydependent
uponthesetupduringinstallation.
PROTECTIONWHILETHESYSTEMISARMED:
Whenever the system is armed, opening any protected entry point, (i.e.; hood, trunk, or
doors),willcausethealarmtotriggerimmediately. The siren will soundandtheparkinglights
willflashfor30seconds, then stop andresettocontinuetomonitor all protected entrypoints.
Ifthethief happened toleavethe entry pointopen,the system willsoundfor six consecutive
30secondcycles then shutdownand reset, isolatingthetriggeredzone, while continuingto
monitorandprotect all other zones.
Whenever the system is armed, the dash mounted LED will slowly flash. This serves as a
visualdeterrenttoapotentialthief. This LED is averylowcurrentlightemittingdiodeand will
notcause the batteryto draineven if leftunattended for longperiods of time.
Ifthe
optional shocksensor isinstalled,anystrongimpacttothe vehicle will cause theshock

detectorto triggerthe alarm whenarmed. If the optional 2-stageshock sensoris installed,
anylesserimpactwillcausethepre-detectstage of the shock sensor toemitaseriesofshort
warningtones fromthe siren when armed.
Iftheoptional starter interruptisinstalled the vehiclestartercircuitis disabled, evenwiththe
ignitionkey the vehiclewillnot start.
DISARMINGTHESYSTEM
Asyouapproach the vehicle,pressandrelease the unlockbuttonon the keychaintransmit-
ter.
Theparkinglightswillflashtwotimes, the siren will chirp twiceandthedashmountedLEDwill
turnoff. If you havethe optional doorlock/unlock circuit installed,thedoors willunlock.
Note: Ifthepassivearming mode was selectedatthetimeof installation, the dashmounted
LEDwill start flashingrapidly indicating thatthe systemisrearming. Opening anydoorwill
suspendtheautomaticarming.
Iftheparking lights flashed threetimesandthe siren chirpsfourtimes,thisindicates that the
alarmsystemhadbeen triggeredinyourabsence. Beforeturningontheignitionkey,examine
thedashmounted LED's flashpattern. Thenumber of flashesidentifiesthe triggered zone.
Foradditionalinformation,refertoINTRUSIONWARNINGSIGNALSfoundlaterinthismanual.
If the siren did not sound upon disarm, then the chirps have been turned off. Refer to the
sectiontitledELIMINATINGTHEARM/DISARMCHIRPS.
SILENTDISARMING
1. Asyouapproach thevehicle, pressandholdtheunlock buttonofyourkeychaintransmitter
for two seconds, or until the system responds.
Theparkinglightswill flash twiceandthedashmounted LED will turnoff,confirmingthatthe
systemisdisarmed. Thesiren will not chirp. Ifyouhavetheoptional door lock/unlock circuit
installed,thedoors will unlock.
Note: Ifthepassivearmingmodewasselectedattimeofinstallation,thedashmountedLED
will start flashing rapidly indicating that the system is rearming. Opening any door will
suspendtheautomaticarming.
Iftheparking lights flashed threetimesandthe siren chirpsfourtimes,thisindicates that the
alarmsystemhad been triggeredinyourabsence.
VALET/PROGRAM/MANUALOVERRIDESWITCH
Thevaletswitchallows youtotemporarilypreventthealarmfromarming,eliminating theneed
to hand your keychain transmitter to parking attendants or garage mechanics. When the
system is in the valet mode, all alarm functions are by-passed, however the remote panic
feature,andtheoptionalremotedoor lock/unlock will remain operational.
Toenterthevaletmode:
1. Start with the valet switch in the "off" position
2.Turn the ignitionswitchto the "on"position.
3.Within 10seconds of step 2, flipthe valetswitch to the "on" position.
ThedashmountedLEDwillturnonsolidindicatingthatthevaletmodehassuccessfullybeen
entered.

Toreturn to thenormal, (alarm mode),operation, move thevalet switch tothe "off"position
anytime the ignition switchisin the onposition.
Note:Inthe event thatyoulose your keychaintransmitter or thetransmitterfails to operate
thealarmsystem,thevaletswitchcan be used to disarm thealarm. Thisisreferredtoasthe
"ManualOverride". Todisarmthealarm:
1.Open thedoor with thevehicle doorkey. (The siren willsound)
2.Turn the ignitionswitchto the "on"position.
3.Flip the valet/overrideswitchto the"on"position.
Thesystemwilldisarmand the sirenwillstopsounding,allowingtheenginetobestarted,and
thevehicleto be operatednormally. Always remembertomove the valetswitchbackto the
"off"position toallow the passivearming and optional starter interruptfeatures to beoper-
ablethenext time youparkthevehicle.
INTRUSIONWARNINGSIGNAL
This systemwill inform youif anintrusionattempt hasoccurred while youwere away from
thevehicle. Upondisarm,the siren will chirp4timesandthe parking lights willflash3times.
Enterthe vehicle and
before turning on theignitionswitch, observe theLEDflash pattern.
Ifthe LED flashestwo times...pause, twotimes...pause etc., thenan intrusion attemptwas
made to open the hood or trunk, or an impact or a strong vibration was applied that the
optionalshock sensordetected. Check thevehicle for indications of forcedentry tothese
openings,or signs ofglassbreakage or bodydamage.
IftheLEDflashesthreetimes...pause, three times...pause etc.,thenanintrusionattemptwas
madeto the vehicledoors. Check alldoorsfor indicationsof forced entry.
Note:TheLEDintrusion warning indicationsarestored in thesystem'smemory and willbe
erasedwhen theignition switchis turned on.
ELIMINATINGTHEARM/DISARMCHIRPS
You can selectively eliminate the normal arm or disarm chirps by holding the respective
transmitter button slightly longer when arming and disarming. This will prevent the siren
chirpsforonearmor disarm cycle. Ifyoufind thisinconvenientand wish toeliminate these
chirpspermanently,
1. Start with the valet switch in the "off" position.
2.Turn theignition switch "on" then "off".
3. Within 10 seconds of turning off the ignition, flip the valet switch "on", "off", "on", "off",
"on", "off".
4.Ifthechirpswereon before you started,thesirenwillemit2shortchirps indicating that the
chirpsare now off. Ifthe chirpswereoff beforeyou started, thesiren will emitone short
chirpindicating thatthe chirps arenow on.
REMOTEPANICOPERATION
Thelock and unlockbuttonsof your keychaintransmitteralso serves asapanic switch and
willcause the sirento sound ondemand. To usethe panicfeature, you mustbe within the
system's maximum operating range. In an emergency situation, to use the panic feature,
pressand holdeither the lock or unlockbutton ofyour keychaintransmitter for 3seconds.

This will cause the lights to flash, the siren to sound. The panic mode will continue for 30
secondsand then reset.
To disengage the panic feature before the 30 seconds are up, press and hold the lock or
unlockbutton of yourkeychain transmitter for3 seconds.
While the panic mode is engaged, the doors can be remotely locked and unlocked via the
transmitterbypressingthelock or unlock buttonmomentarily.
ADDITIONALREMOTEFUNCTIONCHANNEL2
The system has an additional feature, (Channel 2) , that can be connected to a number of
differentoptional accessories. Some ofthemore commonusesfor this channelare:
!RemoteTrunkRelease
!RemoteWindowClose
!RemoteGarageDoorInterface
To operate the accessory associated with Channel 2, press and
hold the option button of
yourkeychain transmitter forthree seconds.
NOTE: Youmayaccessthe Channel2commandregardlessofwhetherthesystemis"armed"
or "disarmed", but not when the ignition switch is in the on position. This is to prevent the
outputfromaccidentally opening thevehicle'strunkwhen the vehicleisin motion.
IGNITIONDOORLOCKING/UNLOCKING
When connected to a vehicle's power door lock system the unit is capable of being pro-
grammedfor the addedsafetyand security ofignitioncontrolled door lockingandunlocking.
These features are separate, so the unit may be programmed for one, or both, or neither.
Thesefeatures can onlybeused if theoptional door lock/unlock circuitisinstalled.
Whentheignition door locking featureisprogrammed,thesystem will cause alldoorlocksto
lock whenever the ignition switch is turned from the "off" to "on" position, (providing that all
doorsare closed atthattime). All doors willlockapproximately 2 secondsafter the vehicle's
ignition switch is turned on. This is a nice feature for maintaining the personal safety of the
occupantsof the vehicle,inan effortless and automaticmanner.
When the ignitiondoorunlocking feature isprogrammed,system will causealldoor locks to
unlock whenever the ignition switch is turned from the "on" to "off" position. All doors will
unlockimmediately after thevehicle'signition switch isturnedoff.
As stated these features are programmed separately, so you may chose to use one, both,
or neither. Please consult with your dealer to consider your options.
