3. Place the treadmill o a level surface, with at
least eight feet of cleara ce behi d it a d two
feet o each side. Do ot place the treadmill
o a y surface that blocks air ope i gs. To
protect the floor or carpet from damage, place
a mat u der the treadmill.
4. Keep the treadmill i doors, away from mois-
ture a d dust. Do ot put the treadmill i a
garage or covered patio, or ear water.
5. Do ot operate the treadmill where aerosol
products are used or where oxyge is bei g
admi istered.
6. Keep childre u der the age of 12 a d pets
away from the treadmill at all times.
7. The treadmill should be used o ly by perso s

8. Never allow more tha o e perso o the
treadmill at a time.
9. Wear appropriate exercise clothes whe
usi g the treadmill. Do ot wear loose clothes
that could become caught i the treadmill.
Athletic support clothes are recomme ded for
both me a d wome . Always wear athletic
shoes. Never use the treadmill with bare feet,
wearing only stockings, or in sandals.
10. Whe co ecti g the power cord (see page 8),
plug the power cord i to a surge suppressor
( ot i cluded) a d plug the surge suppressor
i to a grou ded circuit capable of carryi g 15
or more amps. No other applia ce should be o
the same circuit. Do ot use a exte sio cord.
11. Use o ly a si gle-outlet surge suppressor that
meets all of the specificatio s described o
page 8. To purchase a surge suppressor, see
your local PROFORM dealer or call 1-800-806-
3651 a d order part umber 146148.
12. Failure to use a properly fu ctio i g surge
suppressor could result i damage to the co -
trol system of the treadmill. If the co trol sys-
tem is damaged, the walki g belt may cha ge
speed or stop u expectedly, which may result
i a fall a d serious i jury.
13. Keep the power cord a d the surge suppres-
sor away from heated surfaces.
14. Never move the walki g belt while the power
is tur ed off. Do ot operate the treadmill if
the power cord or plug is damaged, or if the
treadmill is ot worki g properly. (See BE-
FORE YOU BEGIN o page 4 if the treadmill is
ot worki g properly.)

18. Do ot attempt to raise, lower, or move the

You must be able to safely lift 45 pou ds (20
kg) to raise, lower, or move the treadmill.

1. Make sure that the power cord is u plugged.
With the help of a second person, carefully raise the
Uprights (97) to the position shown. Insert one of the
Extension Legs (92) into the right Upright. (Note: It may
be helpful to tip the Uprights forward as you insert the
Extension Leg.) Make sure that the Warning Decal (91)
is in the indicated location.
Insert the other Extension Leg (not shown) in the same
way.

Use the drawings below to identify the assembly hardware. The number in parentheses below each drawing is
the key number of the part, from the PART LIST on pages 26 and 27. The number after the parentheses shows
the quantity needed for assembly. Note: If a part is ot i the parts bag, check to see if it is preattached to
o e of the parts to be assembled.
ASSEMBLY
Assembly requires two perso s. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do not
dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed. Note: The underside of the treadmill walking belt is
coated with high-performance lubricant. During shipping, a small amount of lubricant may be transferred to the
top of the walking belt or the shipping carton. This is a normal condition and does not affect treadmill perfor-
mance. If there is lubricant on top of the walking belt, simply wipe off the lubricant with a soft cloth and a mild,
non-abrasive cleaner.

3. Attach the Latch Assembly (82) to the Left Upright (84)
with the two Latch Screws (79). Start both Latch Screws
before tightening either of them. Note: The Latch Screws
may be preattached to the Left Upright.

4. Refer to drawing 4c. With the help of a second person,
hold the Console Base (101) near the Uprights (80, 84).
Look under the Console Base and locate the wires on
the sides of the Console Base. Make sure that the wires
are ot routed through the openings for the Trays (109,
111). Drawing 4a shows the correct route for the wires.
Drawing 4b shows an incorrect route.
Refer to drawing 4c. Cut the plastic ties holding the Wire
Harness (74) and the pulse wire in the Uprights (80, 84).
Locate the Wire Harness (74) and pulse wire in the
Uprights (97). Connect the Wire Harness and the pulse
wire to the connectors on the sides of the Console Base
(101). Make sure to co ect the co ectors properly
(see the i set drawi gs). IF THE CONNECTORS ARE
NOT CONNECTED PROPERLY, THE CONSOLE MAY
BE DAMAGED WHEN THE POWER IS TURNED ON.
The co ectors should slide together easily a d
s ap i to place. If the connectors do not slide together
easily and snap into place, turn a connector and try to in-
sert it again. Insert the excess Wire Harness and pulse
wire up into the Console Base.

2. With the help of a second person, carefully tip the
Uprights (97) down as shown. (Note: It may be helpful to
place your foot on one of the Extension Legs [92] as you
tip the Uprights.) Make sure that the Exte sio Legs
remai i the Uprights.
Attach each Extension Leg (92) with two Extension Leg
Bolts (96) and two 1/4” Washers (39) as shown. Thread
a Leveling Foot (9 ) into each side of the Upright Base
(97); do ot thread the Leveli g Feet fully i to the
Upright Base.
Attach the two Base Pads (99) to the Upright Base (97)
in the locations shown with two 1” Tek Screws (80).
With the help of a second person, raise the Upright Base
(97) to the vertical position.

If you purchase the optio al chest pulse se sor (see
page 20), follow the steps below to i stall the receiver
i cluded with the chest pulse se sor.
1. Make sure that the power cord is u plugged. Remove
the indicated Screw (108) and the Access Door (116).
2. Remove the paper from the adhesive pad on the back of
the receiver (A). Hold the receiver so the small cyli -
der is ear the lower edge of the receiver a d faci g
the Co sole (107) as show . Firmly press the Receiver
onto the indicated corner of the Access Door (116).
Connect the wire on the receiver to the indicated wire ex-
tending from the Console.
3. Make sure that o wires are pi ched. Reattach the
Access Door (116) with the Screw (108). The wires in-
cluded with the receiver may be discarded.
7. Make sure that all parts are properly tighte ed before you use the treadmill. Note: Extra hardware may
be included. Keep the included allen wrenches in a secure place. The large allen wrench is used to adjust the
walking belt (see page 23). To protect the floor or carpet, place a mat under the treadmill. If there are thin
sheets of clear plastic on the decals, remove them.

6. Fold the treadmill to the storage position (see page 21).
If the Wheels (94) are resting on the floor, or if the tread-
mill rocks slightly, turn one or both of the Leveling Feet
(9 ) under the Uprights (97) until the Wheels are off the
floor and the rocking motion is eliminated. Note: If neces-
sary, tip the treadmill and use a phillips screwdriver to
turn the Leveling Feet.

. Set the Console Base (101) on the Uprights (97). Thread
the four Upright Bolts (76) with four Internal Star
Washers (77) into the Uprights and the Console Base.
Be careful ot to pi ch the Wires ( ot show ) i the
Uprights. Tighten the two Upright Bolts indicated by the
arrows first; then, tighten the remaining two Upright Bolts.
Make sure that the Left and Right Trays (109, 111) are
pressed into the Console Base (101).

OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT
THE PERFORMANT LUBETM WALKING BELT
Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with
PERFORMANT LUBETM, a high-performance lubricant.
IMPORTANT: Never apply silico e spray or other
substa ces to the walki g belt or the walki g plat-
form. Such substa ces will deteriorate the walki g
belt a d cause excessive wear.
HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD
Your treadmill, like any other type of sophisticated
electronic equipment, can be seriously damaged by
sudden voltage changes in your home’s power.
Voltage surges, spikes, and noise interference can
result from weather conditions or from other appliances
being turned on or off. To decrease the possibility of
your treadmill bei g damaged, always use a surge
suppressor with your treadmill (see drawi g 1 at
the right). To purchase a surge suppressor, see
your local PROFORM dealer or call 1-800-806-3651
a d order part umber 146148.
Use o ly a si gle-outlet surge suppressor that is
UL 1449 listed as a tra sie t voltage surge sup-
pressor (TVSS). The surge suppressor must have a
UL suppressed voltage rati g of 400 volts or less
a d a mi imum surge dissipatio of 450 joules.
The surge suppressor must be electrically rated
for 120 volts AC a d 15 amps. There must be a
mo itori g light o the surge suppressor to i di-
cate whether it is fu ctio i g properly. Failure to
use a properly fu ctio i g surge suppressor could
result i damage to the co trol system of the
treadmill. If the co trol system is damaged, the
walki g belt may cha ge speed or stop u expect-
edly, which may result i a fall a d serious i jury.
This product must be grou ded. If it should malfunc-
tion or break down, grounding provides a path of least
resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of elec-
tric shock. This product is equipped with a cord having
an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding
plug. Plug the power cord i to a surge suppressor,
a d plug the surge suppressor i to a appropriate
outlet that is properly i stalled a d grou ded i
accorda ce with all local codes a d ordi a ces.
Importa t: The treadmill is ot compatible with
GFCI-equipped outlets.
This product is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit,
and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illus-
trated in drawing 1 below. A temporary adapter that
looks like the adapter illustrated in drawing 2 may be
used to connect the surge suppressor to a 2-pole
receptacle as shown in drawing 2 if a properly
grounded outlet is not available.
The temporary adapter should be used only until a
properly grounded outlet (drawing 1) can be installed
by a qualified electrician.
The green-colored rigid ear, lug, or the like extending
from the adapter must be connected to a permanent
ground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover.
Whenever the adapter is used it must be held in place
by a metal screw. Some 2-pole receptacle outlet box
covers are ot grou ded. Co tact a qualified elec-
tricia to determi e if the outlet box cover is
grou ded before usi g a adapter.

Check with a qualified electricia or service-
ma if you are i doubt as to whether the
product is properly grou ded. Do ot modify
the plug provided with the product—if it will
ot fit the outlet, have a proper outlet

FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE
The treadmill console offers an impressive array of
features that help you get the most from your workouts.
When the manual mode of the console is selected, the
speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with
the touch of a button. As you exercise, the console will
display instant exercise feedback. You can even mea-
sure your heart rate using the handgrip pulse sensor or
the optional chest pulse sensor (see page 20).
In addition, the console offers six preset workout pro-
grams. Each program automatically controls the speed
and incline of the treadmill as it guides you through an
effective workout. Two pulse programs are also offered.
Each program automatically adjusts the speed and in-
cline of the treadmill to keep your heart rate within a tar-
get range while you exercise.
The console also features iFIT.com interactive technol-
ogy. Having iFIT.com technology is like having a per-
sonal trainer in your home. Using the included audio
cable, you can connect the treadmill to your home
stereo, portable stereo, or computer and play special
iFIT.com CD and video programs (one iFIT.com CD is
included; additional CDs and videocassettes are avail-
able separately). iFIT.com CD and video programs au-
tomatically control the speed and incline of the treadmill
as a personal trainer guides you through every step of
your workout. High-energy music provides added moti-
vation. To purchase iFIT.com CDs or videocas-

With the treadmill connected to your computer, you
can also go to our Web site at www.iFIT.com and ac-
cess programs directly from the internet. Additional op-

HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER
Plug in the power cord (see page 8).
Locate the on/off cir-
cuit breaker near the
power cord. Make
sure that the circuit
breaker is in the on
position.
Stand on the foot rails of the treadmill. Find the clip
attached to the key (see the drawing on page 9)
and slide the clip onto the waistband of your
clothes. Next, route the cord attached to the clip
u der the ha dgrip pulse se sor, and insert the
key into the console. After a moment, the displays
and various indicators will light. Test the clip by
carefully taki g a few steps backward u til the
key is pulled from the co sole. If the key is ot
pulled from the co sole, adjust the positio of
the clip.
HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE

Select the ma ual mode.
When the key is in-
serted, the manual
mode will be selected.
To reselect the manual
mode, press the
Program Select button
repeatedly until a track
appears in the matrix. Make sure that the indicator
on the iFIT.com button is not lit.
Press the Start butto or the Speed ▲▲ butto to
start the walki g belt.
A moment after the button is pressed, the walking
belt will begin to move at 1 mph. Hold the handrails
and begin walking.
As you exercise, change the speed of the walking
belt as desired by pressing the Speed ▼▼ and ▲▲
buttons. Each time a
button is pressed, the
speed setting will
change by 0.1 mph; if a
button is held down, the
speed setting will
change in increments of 0. mph. To change the
speed setting quickly, press the Quick Speed but-
tons. Note: The co sole ca display speed a d
dista ce i either miles or kilometers. For sim-
plicity, all i structio s i this sectio refer to
miles.
To stop the walking belt, press the Stop button.
The Time/Pace display will begin to flash. To
restart the walking belt, press the Start button or
the Speed ▲▲ button.
Note: The first time the treadmill is used, observe
the alignment of the walking belt, and align the
walking belt if necessary (see page 23).

To change the incline of
the treadmill, press the
Incline
▼▼ and ▲▲ buttons.
Each time a button is
pressed, the incline will
change by 0. %.
Follow your progress with the matrix a d the
displays.
The matrix—When the
manual mode or the
iFIT.com mode is se-
lected, the matrix will
display a 1/4-mile track.
As you exercise, the in-
dicators around the track
will light in succession until the entire track is lit.
The track will then darken and the indicators will
again begin to light in succession.
Speed display—This
display shows the speed
of the walking belt. Note:
When the KM/H indica-
tor is lit, the console will
display speed and dis-
tance in kilometers; when the KM/H indicator is
not lit, the console will display speed and distance
in miles.

To change the unit of
measurement, first hold
down the Stop button
while inserting the key
into the console. An “E”
for English miles or an
“M” for metric kilometers will appear in the Speed
display. Press the Speed
▲▲ button to change the
unit of measurement. When the desired unit of
measurement is selected, remove the key.
Calories/Pulse
display—This display
shows the approximate
numbers of calories and
fat calories you have
burned (see FAT BURN-
ING on page 24). The
display will change from one number to the other
every few seconds. The display will also show
your heart rate when you use the handgrip pulse
sensor or the optional chest pulse sensor.
Dista ce/I cli e dis-
play—This display
shows the distance that
you have walked or run
and the incline level of
the treadmill. The display
will change from one number to the other every
few seconds. Note: Each time the incline changes,
the display will show the incline setting for several
seconds.
Time/Pace display—
When the manual mode
or the iFIT.com mode is
selected, this display will
show the elapsed time
and your current pace
(pace is measured in minutes per mile). The dis-
play will change from one number to the other
every few seconds. When a preset program or a
heart rate program is selected, the display will
show the time remaining in the program rather
than the elapsed time.
To reset the displays, press the Stop button, re-
move the key, and then reinsert the key.
Measure your heart rate if desired.
You can measure your heart rate using either the
handgrip pulse sensor or the optional chest pulse
sensor.
To use the hand-
grip pulse sen-
sor, first make
sure that your
hands are clean.
Next, sta d o
the foot rails
and hold the
handgrip pulse
sensor, with your hands on the metal contacts.
Avoid movi g your ha ds. When your pulse is
detected, two dashes (– –) will appear in the
Calories/Pulse display, and then your heart rate
will be shown. For the most accurate heart rate
readi g, co ti ue to hold the co tacts for
about 15 seco ds.

To turn on the fan, press the button below the fan.
To turn on the fan at high speed, press the button
a second time. To turn off the fan, press the but-
ton a third time. Note: A few minutes after the
walking belt is stopped, the fan will automatically
turn off.

Step onto the foot rails, press the Stop button, and
adjust the i cli e of the treadmill to the lowest
setti g. The i cli e must be at the lowest setti g
whe the treadmill is folded to the storage posi-
tio or the treadmill will be damaged. Next, re-
move the key from the console and put it in a se-
cure place. Note: If the displays a d various i di-
cators o the co sole remai lit after the key is
removed, the co sole is i the “demo” mode.

When you are finished using the treadmill, move
the on/off circuit breaker switch near the power

HOW TO USE PRESET PROGRAMS

press the Program Select button repeatedly until
one of the six preset program indicators lights.
When a preset program is selected, the Speed
display will flash the maximum speed setting of
the program, and the Distance/Incline display will
flash the maximum incline setting, for six seconds.
The Time/Pace display will show how long the
program will last.
The matrix will show
the first seven speed
settings of the program.
Note: The profiles
below the matrix show
how the speed and in-
cline of the treadmill
will change during the programs.
Press the Start butto or the Speed ▲▲ butto to
start the program.
A moment after the button is pressed, the tread-
mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and
incline settings of the program. Hold the handrails
and begin walking.
Each program is divided into several time seg-
ments of different lengths. One speed setting and
one incline setting are programmed for each seg-
ment. Note: The same speed setting and/or in-
cline setting may be programmed for two or more
consecutive segments.
The speed setting for the
first segment is shown in
the flashing Current
Segment column of the
matrix. (The incline set-
tings are not shown in
the matrix.) The speed
settings for the next
seven segments are
shown in the seven columns to the right.
When only three seconds remain in the first seg-
ment of the program, both the Current Segment
column and the column to the right will flash and a
series of tones will sound. If the speed and/or in-
cline of the treadmill is about to change, the Speed
display and/or the Distance/Incline display will
flash to alert you. When the first segment ends, all
speed settings will move one column to the left.
The speed setting for the second segment will then
be shown in the flashing Current Segment column
and the treadmill will automatically adjust to the
speed and incline settings for the second segment.
Note: If all of the indicators in the Current Segment
column are lit after the speed settings have moved
to the left, the speed settings will move downward
so that only the highest indicators appear in the
matrix. If some of the indicators in the Current
Segment column are not lit when the speed set-
tings move to the left again, the speed settings will
move back up.
The program will continue in this way until the
speed setting for the last segment is shown in the
Current Segment column of the matrix and the
Time/Pace display counts down to zero. The walk-
ing belt will then slow to a stop.
If the speed or incline setting is too high or too low
at any time during the program, you can manually
override the setting by pressing the Speed or
Incline buttons. Every few times a Speed button is
pressed, an additional indicator will light or darken
in the Current Segment column. (If any of the
columns to the right of the Current Segment col-
umn have the same number of lit indicators as the
Current Segment column, an additional indicator
may light or darken in those columns as well.)
Note: Whe the ext segme t of the program

the Stop button, remove the key, and then reinsert

When you are finished using the treadmill, move

HOW TO USE HEART RATE PROGRAMS
Follow the steps below to use a heart rate program.
Note: You must wear the optio al chest pulse se -
sor (see page 20) to use a heart rate program.

The two profiles on the left side of the matrix show
how the target heart rate will change during the
programs. During heart rate program 1, your heart
rate will reach approximately 8 % of your esti-
mated maximum heart rate; during heart rate pro-
gram 2, your heart rate will reach approximately
80% of your estimated maximum heart rate.
Note: Your estimated maximum heart rate is de-
termined by subtracting your age from 220. For
example, if you are 30 years old, your estimated
maximum heart rate is 190 beats per minute
(220 – 30 = 190).

Press the Start butto or the Speed ▲▲ butto to
start the program.
A moment after the button is pressed, the tread-
mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and
incline settings of the program. Hold the handrails
and begin walking.
Each heart rate program is divided into several time
segments of different lengths. One target heart rate
is programmed for each segment.
During each segment, the console will regularly
compare your heart rate to the current target heart
rate. If your heart rate is too far below or above
the target heart rate, the speed of the treadmill will
automatically increase or decrease to bring your
heart rate closer to the target heart rate. If the
speed reaches the maximum speed setting of the
program (see step 4 at the left) and your heart
rate is still too far below the current target heart
rate, the incline of the treadmill will also increase
to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart
rate.
During the last three seconds of each segment, a
series of tones will sound and the Speed display
and the Distance/Incline display will flash.
The program will continue until no time remains in
the program. The walking belt will then slow to a
stop.
If the speed or incline setting is too high or too low
at any time during the program, you can adjust the
setting with the Speed or Incline buttons. However,
each time the console compares your heart rate to
the current target heart rate, the speed and/or in-
cline of the treadmill may automatically change to
bring your heart rate closer to the target heart
rate.
If your pulse is not detected during the program,
the letters “PLS” will flash in the Calories/
Pulse display and the speed and incline of the
treadmill may automatically decrease until your
pulse is detected. If this occurs, refer to the instruc-
tions included with the optional chest pulse sensor.
To stop the program at any time, press the Stop
button. Heart rate programs cannot be stopped
temporarily and then restarted. To use a heart rate
program again, reselect the program and start it at
the beginning.

CD PLAYER, VCR, OR COMPUTER
To use iFIT.com CDs, the treadmill must be connected
to your portable CD player, portable stereo, home
stereo, or computer with CD player. See pages 1 and
16 for connecting instructions. To use iFIT.com video-
cassettes, the treadmill must be connected to your
VCR. See page 17 for connecting instructions. To use
iFIT.com programs directly from our i ter et site,
the treadmill must be connected to your home com-
puter. See page 16 for connecting instructions.
HOW TO CONNECT YOUR PORTABLE CD PLAYER
Note: If your CD player has separate LINE OUT a d
PHONES jacks, see i structio A below. If your CD
player has o ly o e jack, see i structio B.
A. Plug one end of the audio cable into the jack on the
front of the treadmill near the power cord. Plug the
other end of the cable into the LINE OUT jack on
your CD player. Plug your headphones into the
PHONES jack.
B. Plug one end of the audio cable into the jack on the
front of the treadmill near the power cord. Plug the
other end of the cable into a 3. mm Y-adapter (avail-
able at electronics stores). Plug the Y-adapter into

To use programs from our Web site, the treadmill must
be connected to your home computer. See HOW TO

tion, you must have an internet connection and an in-
ternet service provider. A list of specific system re-
quirements is found on our Web site.
Follow the steps below to use a program from our
Web site.

THE INFORMATION MODE/DEMO MODE
The console features an information mode that keeps
track of the total number of hours that the treadmill has
been operated and the total number of miles that the
walking belt has moved. The information mode also al-
lows you to switch the console from miles per hour to
kilometers per hour. In addition, the information mode
allows you to turn on and turn off the demo mode.
To select the information mode, hold down the Stop
button while inserting the key into the console. When
the information mode is selected, the following informa-
tion will be shown:
The Distance/Incline display
will show the total number of
miles (or kilometers) that the
walking belt has moved.
The Time/Pace display will
show the total number of
hours the treadmill has been
used.
An “E” for English miles or
an “M” for metric kilometers
will appear in the Speed dis-
play. Press the Speed
▲▲ but-
ton to change the unit of
measurement.
IMPORTANT: The
Calories/Pulse display
should be bla k. If a “d” ap-
pears in the display, the con-
sole is in the “demo” mode.
This mode is intended to be
used only when a treadmill is displayed in a store.
When the console is in the demo mode, the power cord
can be plugged in, the key can be removed from the
console, and the displays and indicators on the console
will automatically light in a preset sequence, although
the buttons on the console will not operate. If a “d” ap-
pears i the Calories/Pulse display whe the i for-
matio mode is selected, press the Speed
▼▼ butto
so the display is bla k.
To exit the information mode, remove the key from the
console.
THE OPTIONAL CHEST PULSE SENSOR
An optional chest pulse sensor adds even more
features to the console. The chest pulse sensor provides
hands-free operation and allows the console’s heart
rate programs to be used. To purchase the optio al
chest pulse se sor, call toll-free 1-800-734-2377.
HOW TO LEVEL THE TREADMILL
If the treadmill wheels are touching the floor or if the
treadmill rocks slightly, turn one or both of the leveling
feet under the upright base until the wheels are off the
floor and the rocking motion is eliminated. Note: If nec-
essary, tip the treadmill and use a phillips screwdriver
to turn the leveling feet.
