NaturalGas: Naturalgasis odorless.
Anodor-makingagentisaddedto
naturalgas.The odor helpsyoude-
tectanatural gas leak.However,
the odor added to natural gascan
fade. Naturalgas may be present
eventhough noodor exists.Make
certainyou read and understand all
warnings.Keep this manual for

Water vapor is aby-productof gas combustion.An
unventedroomheaterproduces approximately one
(1) ounce (30ml) ofwater forevery 1,000BTU s
(.3KW s)of gas input per hour.
Unventedroom heaters arerecommendedas supple-
mentalheat (a room) rather than aprimaryheat
source (an entire house). Inmostsupplemental heat
applications, the water vapor does not create a
problem. In most applications, the water vapor en-
hancesthe low humidity atmosphere experienced
duringcold weather.
Thefollowing steps willhelp insurethat water vapor
doesnotbecomeaproblem.
1. Be sure theheater issizedproperly for the
application, includingamplecombustionairand
circulation air.
2. If high humidity is experienced, adehumidifier
maybe usedto helplower thewatervapor con-
tentofthe air.
3.Donotuseanunvented room heater asthe pri-
mary heatsource.

ventilation.

UnusuallyTight Construction
Theairthat leaks around doors and

additional fresh air.
Unusually tight construction is
definedasconstruction where:
a. walls and ceilings exposed to the
outside atmospherehavea
continuouswater vaporretarder
witharating ofoneperm(6 × 10-11 kg
per pa-sec-m2)or less with
openings gasketed or sealed and
b. weather stripping has been
addedonopenablewindows and
doors and
c.caulkingorsealants areappliedto
areassuch asjointsaround
window anddoorframes, between
sole plates andfloors,between
wall-ceiling joints, between wall
panels,at penetrationsfor plumbing,
electrical, andgas lines, andat
otheropenings. If your home meets
all of the three criteria above, you
must provide additional freshair.

DETERMINING FRESH-AIR FLOW FOR HEATER LOCATION
Determining if you have a Confined or Unconfined Space*
Use this worksheet to determine if you have a confined or unconfined space.
Space: Includes theroomin which youwillinstall heaterplusanyadjoining roomswithdoorless passageways
or ventilation grills betweenthe rooms.
1. Determine the volume of thespace (length×width×height).
Length×Width×Height= cu.ft. (volume of space)
Example:Spacesize 18ft. (length)×16ft.( width)×8ft. (ceilingheight)=2304cu.ft. (volume of space)
If additional ventilation to adjoining room is supplied withgrills or openings, add the volume of these
rooms to the total volume of the space.
2. Divide the space volume by 50 cubic feet to determine the maximum Btu/Hr the space can support.
(volumeof space) 50cu.ft.=(MaximumBtu/Hrthe spacecansupport)
Example: 2304 cu. ft.(volume ofspace) 50 cu.ft.=46.1or 46.100(maximumBtu/Hr thespacecansupport)

bottom cornersoflowerfront
panel.
2. Pullbottomof lowerfrontpanel
forward, then down (see Figure
7).
Methods For Attaching Mounting
BracketToWall
Only use last holeoneach end of
mounting bracket to attachbracket
towall. Attach mountingbracketto
wallonlyin oneof two ways:
1.Attachingto wallstud
2. Attachingto wallanchor
Attachingto WallStud: This method
providesthe strongesthold.Insert
mountingscrewsthrough mounting
bracket and into wallstuds.
Attaching to Wall Anchor: This
method allows you toattach
mountingbracket to hollow walls (wall
areasbetweenstuds) or to
solidwalls(concreteor masonry).
Decide which methodbetter suits
your needs. Eithermethodwill
provide asecure hold for the
mountingbracket.
Marking Screw Locations
1.Tape mountingbracket to wall

Makesuremounting bracket is
level.
2.Markscrewlocationson
wall. (see Figure 8)
Note: Only mark lasthole on
each end of mounting bracket.
Insert mounting screws through
these holes only.
3. Remove tapeand mounting
bracket from wall.

3. Insert wall anchor(wings
first) into hole. Tap anchor
flush to wall.
4. For thin walls (1/2"or less),
insert red key into wall
anchor. Push red key to
"pop"open anchor wings.
(see Figure 10)
IMPORTANT: Donot
hammer key! For thick walls
(over 1/2"thick) or solid walls,
do not popopen wings.
5. Place mounting bracket onto
wall. Line up lasthole on
eachend of bracket with wall
anchors.
6. Insert mounting screws through
bracket and into wall anchors.
7. Tighten screws until mounting
bracket is firmly fastened to
wall.

7.Holdspacerinplacewithone
hand.With otherhand,insert
mountingscrewthrough bottom
mounting hole andspacer. Place
tip ofscrew in openingof wall
anchoror drilled hole.
8.Tighten screw until heateris firmly
securedto wall.Donot overtighten.

panelat thistime.Replace lower
front panelafter making gas
connections andchecking for
leaks (see page 9).

using 9/64"drillbit.

wall. Lineup last holeoneach
endof bracket withholesdrilled

3.Insert mounting screws through
bracket and into wall studs.
4. Tightenscrews until mounting
bracket is firmlyfastened to
wall studs.

For attaching mounting bracket to
hollowwalls (wall areasbetween
studs) or solid walls (concrete or
masonry)
1. Drillholesat marked locations
using 5/16"drill bit.For solid
walls(concrete or masonry),
drillat least 1"deep.
2. Foldwall anchor as shown in
Figure9below.

Thread) inletconnection
to the pressure regulator.
WARNING: Never connect
heater toprivate (non-utility) gas
well.This gas is commonly
known aswell-headgas.
IMPORTANT:Check your gas line
pressurebeforeconnectingheaterto
gasline.Gas line pressuremustbe
no greater than 10.5 inches of water.
If gas line pressure is higher, heater

Apply pipe jointsealant lightlyto
male threads. This willprevent
excesssealant fromgoinginto
pipe. Excess sealant inpipecould
result in clogged heater valves.
Install sedimenttrapinsupply line
asshowninFigure13. Locate
sediment trapwhereit is within
reachforcleaning. Locate
sedimenttrapwheretrapped
matterisnot likely to freeze. A
sedimenttrap traps moistureand
contaminants. This keeps them
from goingintoheatercontrols.If
sedimenttrap is notinstalledoris
installedwrong,heater may
not run properly.
IMPORTANT:Hold pressure
regulator with wrench when
connectingit to gaspipingand/or
fittings.
CAUTION: Use pipe joint
sealant that is resistantto
natural gas.
