1. Before You Start
Please check USB Adapter package content:
•USB Adapter
•USB Adapter Stand with 1.5M USB cable
•CD-ROM containing software driver and documentation
If any of the items appear to be damaged or missing, please contact
your supplier.
CAUTION: To maintain compliance with FCC’s RF exposure
guidelines, this equipment should be installed and operated with
minimum distance 20cm between the radiator and your body. Use
on the supplied antenna. Unauthorized antenna, modification, or
attachments could damage the transmitter and may violate FCC
regulations.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is
subject to the following two conditions:
(1) This device may not cause harmful interference.
(2) This device must accept any interference received, including
interference that may cause undesired operation.

2. Step 1: Software Installation
Insert the CD-ROM, and it will auto-run as shown in the following
picture. It is required to install the software first, prior to hardware
installation.

2.1 For Windows XP users
Step 1: Please click “Install” and the InstallShield Wizard will start the
installation. Just follow the instructions for the installation.
Step 2: Click “Next” to continue the installation.

Step 3: After you click “Next”, the system will start to install the
program as shown in the following picture.
Step 4: Click “Finish” to complete the installation and restart your
computer again.

2.2 For Windows 2000 users
Please follow page 6 steps 1 and 2 to start the installation. After
that, please ignore the Windows hardware message and click
“Yes” to continue the installation.
The computer will complete the installation as shown in the page 7
step 3 and 4. After that, please restart your computer again.

3. Step 2: Hardware Installation
Before you start to do the hardware installation, please plug the USB
Adapter to the Stand socket and the other end of the Stand cable to
your computer.

3.1 For Windows XP users
For Windows XP users, the system will detect a new device when you
plug the cable into the USB socket.
Step 1: Please select “View Available Wireless Networks” from
taskbar and click “enter”. You will need to wait while the USB Adapter
looks for available wireless networks.
Step 2: A list of available wireless networks will appear on the
“Wireless Network Connection” screen.

Step 3: Select the appropriate wireless network and click “connect”.
The USB Adapter will be connected to the wireless network you
select.

3.2 For Windows 2000 users
For Windows 2000 users, the system will detect a new device when
you plug the cable into the USB socket and start installation as shown
in the following picture.
Please ignore the Windows hardware message and click “Yes”
to continue.

Please click “Browse” to search the file in the CD-ROM.
Please find the file “usb8023k.sys” under folder “Install_Window2000”
as shown in the following picture and click “OK” to continue the
installation.
Note: If your Windows 2000 system doesn’t contain file
“usb8023k.sys”. Please find the file in the CD-ROM for the
installation. If yes, the following 2 steps will not be shown during
installation.

The system will start to install the program as shown in the following
picture.
After completing the installation, please click icon “ ” to look for
available wireless networks and select the appropriate network to
complete the connection.

4. Step 3: Configuration
To connect the wireless network, please complete the following steps:
1. Cancel your browser’s proxy setting.
Open your browser and click Tool ÆInternet Options ÆConnections
ÆLAN Settings ÆDeselect Proxy setting as shown in the following
figure.

2. Change your TCP/IP setup. Tick “Obtain an IP address
automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically”.
Move the cursor to and double click the mouseÆClick “Property”
Ædouble click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Ætick “Obtain an IP address
automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically”.
3. After both software and hardware installation, your USB Adapter
connects wireless network automatically.

4.1 WPA/WPA2 Set Up for Windows XP
Before WPA/WPA2 setup, it is required to install patch file in the CD-
ROM. Different OS systems will require different patch files.
1. If your Operation System is Windows XP-SP1, please select the
file “WindowsXP-KBB22603-x86-ENU.exe” and complete the
installation.
2. If your Operation System is Windows XP-SP2, please select the
file “WindowsXP-KB893357-v2-x86-ENU” and complete the
installation.

To do the WPA/WPA2 setup, please complete the following steps:
1. Move the cursor to double click the mouse and click
“Properties”
2. Go to “Wireless Networks” and click “Properties”

3. Set up “Network Authentication”, “Data encryption” and “Network
key” as shown in the following pictures.
4. After the completing these steps, the setup will be completed.

4.2 WPA Set Up for Windows 2000
Please follow the prior page 17 to enter the setup screen and set up
“Network Authentication”, “Data Encryption” and “Network key” as
shown in the following pictures to complete the setup.
Note: WPA2 is not supported under Windows 2000.
