GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
CAUTION:Please take caution when installing your turbo blanket as occasionally the
stainless-steel mesh used to sew the edges of the blanket may have protruded the outer
edges of the blankets, creating a sharp surface. Mechanics gloves and safety glasses are
highly recommended. Always practice safe methods when working on your vehicle.
1. Before installing your turbo blanket, please ensure that your hands or gloves are
completely clean and free of chemicals, oils, or other contaminants. Certain
chemicals can stain the turbo blanket, causing premature deterioration of the
insulation materials. Allow your engine and turbocharger an adequate amount of
time to completely cool down before touching or installing your turbo blanket on
your turbo.
2. Locate your stock turbo position on the passenger side of your WRX/STI. The
turbo is located beneath the OEM heat shield shown below in the picture.
Removing the top mount intercooler is not necessary for the installation of your
turbo blanket, however it can make the process easier. *Removal of the top
mount intercooler will not be covered in this step-by-step installation guide.

3. Remove the stock heat shield from the turbo. The heat shield is attached with 8 x
10mm bolts. Please refer to the picture below for the location of the stock heat
shield bolts.
4. The turbocharger should be visible now, as show in the photo below. Your PTP
Subaru WRX/STI Turbo Blanket will cover the exhaust portion of the turbo
connecting to the downpipe.

Installing your Subaru STI/WRX blanket with Stainless-Steel Wire
**Note: Be sure to allow yourself plenty of excess wire. You can always cut any excess
wire once secured to the turbo blanket.
5. Locate the stainless-steel wire included in your package. Carefully unwind the
wire to attach the opposing button rivets on the opposite end of the turbo blanket.
As mentioned previously, be sure to allow yourself plenty of wire.
6. Begin by looping the wire to one of
the button rivets on the non-
contoured (narrow) end of the
blanket several times. This will
anchor the wire allowing you to
make a figure eight pattern around
both button rivets, properly
securing the wire on both ends.
7. After you have successfully
installed the wire begin fitting the blanket over the exhaust side of the turbo. Feed
the end of the blanket with the wire (narrow end) down around the backside of
the turbo. Be sure to bend the wire back towards the turbo so that you are able to
pull it completely through, with the needle nose pliers, underneath the turbo.
8. Once you have hold of the wire you can move the blanket into position by pulling
on the wire while feeding the blanket downward.

9. Tuck the blanket under the wastegate actuator arm while moving the blanket into
place.
10.) Tie the stainless-steel wire around the rivets exactly the same way you did on the
opposite end. Make sure that the blanket fits tightly over the turbocharger.
You may re-install your factory heat shield if you desire. Our Subaru turbo blankets can be
used in conjunction with or without the factory heat shield.
