3. Place the black plastic spacer disc (with the beveled riser) beveled side up under the faucet on the
countertop side, followed by the rubber gasket.
4. Under the sink, install the 2nd black plastic spacer, flat side up, followed by the lock washer (with jagged
inside edges), and then the smaller brass nut, onto the faucet stud. (The large brass nut and white plastic
components are not used for this installation. We have instead supplied you with an easy quick connect
fitting.)
5. Position the faucet handle where it is convenient for you, and then tighten from underneath. Now attach the
gray quick-connect fitting on the end of the faucet stud and tighten securely.
6. Insert the blue tubing into the faucet quick-connect fitting by pushing the tube until it has completely
bottomed. To disconnect at any time, push down (towards filter) on the outer ring while pulling out on the
tubing.
7. Next, install the "EZ" faucet adapter - see separate instruction sheet. Insert the red tube into the white quick-
connect of the “EZ” faucet adapter.
8. Open the faucet and allow water to run for several minutes to flush out the normal black carbon fines (it will
“sputter” until the air is worked out). Initially, the water may appear cloudy - this is due to tiny air bubbles and
will clear up shortly. Pushing the faucet handle down gives you a controlled flow; flipping the handle up will
lock it for filling pitchers, etc.
9. Purity UC systems and installation shall comply with applicable state and local regulations
IMPORTANT OPERATING NOTES
1. After an extended period of inactivity, allow water to run through the filter for several minutes before drinking.
Otherwise, the taste may be bitter due to excess zinc oxide (which prevents bacterial growth and is
harmless to drink).
2. Recommended flow rate is one gallon per minute or less. Operating at higher flow rates will not necessarily
damage the unit but will reduce the contaminant removal efficiency. The flow rate can be adjusted with the
EZ valve. Maximum water pressure is 100 PSI. Maximum operating temperature is 110F. Protect from
freezing.
3. This product is not intended for use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without
adequate disinfection before or after the unit. You may contact PuriTec about UV light and other disinfection
options.
HOW DO I KNOW WHEN TO REPLACE MY FILTER CARTRIDGE? CHLORINE TEST STRIPS.
In virtually all cases, the taste and odor of chlorine will return to municipal water when the cartridge has lost its
effectiveness. While our filter has been tested to effectively reduce aesthetic chlorine 12,000 gallons of water,
the type and concentration of other contaminants varies widely throughout the country. Therefore, to assure
maximum effectiveness and the best possible water quality, it is suggested that you test the water for chlorine
with chlorine test strips. Fill a cup with water and dip the test strip into the cut. Swish gently in the water for 10
seconds. The pad toward the end will turn blue with the presence of free chlorine; the pad near the handle will
turn green with the presence of total chlorine (chloramines). IT IS IMPORTANT TO IMMEDIATELY ASSESS
THE COLOR AS THE PADS BECOME UNSTABLE AND WILL GIVE A FALSE READING. The GAC/KDF filter
cartridge should be replaced at least every three years. Order part number “CF” for the GAC/KDF Cartridge at
www.puriteam.com or toll free at 1-888-491-4100.
UCD-12 MODELS: Replacing the sediment prefilter is done when the filter becomes markedly darkened, and/or
the flow rate has dropped noticeably. Flushing it with a garden hose will sometimes clean it.
UCD-12C MODELS: The ceramic prefilter may be cleaned with a Scotch Brite® pad or similar when water flow is
noticeably reduced. May be cleaned up to 30 times before it requires replacement.
