Introduction:
• The Q36 active speaker is designed to provide high quality music reproduction in a compact package
that compliments the acoustic piano in t and sound. At just 5”x5”square, this device matches the
height profile of the timbers of most grand pianos. This makes it nearly invisible when installed into the
piano.
• All of the design elements of Q36 have been aimed at providing the best accompaniment sound
for use in a player piano experience.
• The forward facing coaxial driver conguration allows for it’s compact size and provides superior under
piano performance.
• The integrated articulating mounting system provides easy, flexible installation and allows the sound
driver to be pointed in an optimal direction.
• The Q36 pushes sound towards the front of the piano. This allows the sound to project outward into the
room eliminating phase distortion caused by reflected sound waves where a speaker points down.
• The speaker fits into very tight spaces without hanging down below the piano rim. It ts into many
vertical piano cases as well. In an upright application the sound is driven upward towards the lid of the
piano where sound waves are less impeded by the cabinetry.
Specication:
Q36 Active speaker system uses a 40 Watts, RMS Class A/B amplier for high quality music playback.
Signal to Noise Ratio above 92db, THD below .03% when used in typical applications.
The system gain is optimized to accept line audio signal at the standard -10 dmv level with full dynamic
range so there is need for volume adjustments at the unit. Internal gain is preset for best performance.
Works with 230VAC 50 HZ and 115VAC 60 HZ

Connect QRS PNO3 processor unit or other playback device into the 1/8”audio
input jack.
System will accept both the Left and Right audio channels so program content
is not lost.
Employing two Q36 units for stereo sound is done using standard left and right
mono connections to each unit.
Green LED shows power is present

Read First:
• Select a mounting position under the piano. The further towards the tail of the piano you stay the better
the forward sound projection will be better.
• If the Q36 front mount is centered on the timber face, the speaker will be centered as well. You will want
to keep the mount closer to the bottom edge of the timber to allow the front of the Q36 to be angled
downward up to 10 degrees. You will need to determine how much of the front end speaker case you
can allow to hang below the timber.
• Placing the Q36 front mount flush with the front edge of the timber will cause about 1-1/2” of overhang
of the front end of Q36. The rear of Q36 will be closer to the soundboard and will not hang below most
timbers.
Your goal is to aim the front drivers toward and under the keybed area to allow best sound projection. If you
imagine a line drawn from the center of the Q36 you can visualize where the sound will impact in the room,
• Place the Q36 front mount on the piano timber with the mount slot facing forward.
• Pilot drill the timber at the 2 mount screw hole positions.
• Install the mount using the two included #8 x 3/4”screws and flat washers. Be sure to leave enough space
at the rear of the Q36 to get the rear mount screws installed.

driver configuration. The drivers
are open air for unimpeded sound
performance. Avoid grabbing the
Q36 by the front drivers. Use care
not to damage the drivers with
tools or by careless handling.

Once the Q36 front mount is attached, set the Q36 onto the front mount with the Q36 front mount stud in front
of the mount.
Center the Q36 on the front mount and slide toward the mount.
When the Q36 mount stud enters the slot continue to move the unit back until the stud reaches the end of the
slot.
Move the rear of the Q36 unit upward toward the soundboard.
As the Q36 pivots on the front mount keep the mount stud pulled into the slot. When you have the Q36
positioned at the desired angle pre-drill and
add a #8 screw and washer at mid point in the rear mount arm slot.
At this stage the Q36 can still be rotated if needed. You may want to let the system play as you walk
around the piano and make any last position adjustments based on what you hear. When you have the
Q36 positioned how you like it, add the final rear mount arm screw thru the hole. is will lock the position
in permanently.
