Installation Guide
Getting started:
Enclosed you will find the Tripcounter and a mounting bracket. The instructions below provide
a brief guide for installation; please refer to the accompanying manual for more detailed
explanations as necessary.
Before mounting the unit, ensure you have all the components shown in the diagram. You also need to record the serial number
and four-character code printed underneath the device. For ease, many customers take a photo of the label before installation.
Step 1: Mounting the Unit
In most vehicles, the Tripcounter (see above diagram) is mounted underneath or behind the dashboard, where it has full
functionality and will not affect the safety of the vehicle or its occupants. The bracket should first be securely mounted in a near-
level position where it will have a clear line of sight through the dashboard towards the sky. Avoid mounting the unit
immediately under a metal structure, as it will disrupt the GPS; glass, plastic and wood will not interfere with performance.
The best location is directly under a slightly sloping section of the dashboard, where anything on top of the unit would slide off
when the vehicle is in motion. The Tripcounter should be firmly mounted so that it does not rattle when subjected to normal
vehicle vibration. The unit should be slotted into the mounting bracket (and secured with cable ties) with the Quartix logo facing
skyward, and the barcode label facing the ground.
Step 2: Wiring
Refer to the table to connect the wires to the correct locations. All connections MUST be soldered and sleeved.
Wire Color
Where to connect
Function
Red*
The red wire is the power wire and should be connected to a permanent power source.
It’s important that the unit remains connected to the vehicle power at all times.
Positive 12 volt or 24
volt power
Black
The black wire is the ground wire and should be connected to a vehicle ground wire or to
the vehicle chassis.
Grounding
White*
The white wire is the ignition sense. It’s important that there is a constant voltage on this
wire when the ignition is switched on and there is zero voltage when the ignition is off.
For true idling on larger vehicles you might want to connect it to the engine run wire.
Ignition Sense Signal
Blue
Initially coiled up and secured with insulating tape for future use.
Not used
Brown
Initially coiled up and secured with insulating tape for future use.
Optional for Driver ID
*The cable includes in-line fuses on the power and ignition sense wires. These must remain in the cable. DO NOT cut off to shorten the wire. For
more information, such as adding driver identification, please refer to the full installation guide.

Step 3: Initialization of the unit
To initialize the unit, the engine needs to be running for 1 minute and then switched off. The device will be trying to lock onto
satellite signals, so the vehicle must be in an open space with a clear view of the sky. The LEDs (on the side of the device) will
flicker on and off while the unit initializes. When the unit has gained GPS lock, the GPS LED will illuminate permanently and the
unit will communicate over the network. The DATA LED will stop flickering and illuminate permanently after a successful
transmission has completed.
Step 4: Communications test
The device should be connected to the cellular network when both lights are illuminated and no longer flashing. To check the live
tracking feature is active, complete the following tests while the engine is running:
1. Open a web browser and navigate to the following page: www.quartix.com/install
1. Type in the unit serial number (last 6 digits after the dash) and either the 6-digit unit check number or last 4-digits of the
phone number (phone no begins with +44). Now select ‘Check Unit’.
2. The latest events will be shown in a table –make sure the dates are recent! Confirm that it indicates ‘Ignition-On’ (red
box below)
3. Turn the key back to the auxiliary position and refresh the report after approximately 30 seconds. It should say
‘IgnitionOff’ (blue box below)
4. Finally, switch off the ignition and remove the key. Lock up the vehicle and leave it untouched for 5 minutes. When you
refresh the page, it should still reflect ‘Ignition-Off” as before – ensure that there are no additional ignition events
displayed (blue box below)
Following installation, email support@quartix.com with the unit serial number, last 4 digits of the unit telephone number, the
vehicle year/make/model/license plate number, and the approximate location where the unit is mounted in the vehicle.
If you have any problems with your installation, please call our Technical Support Team at (844) 813-6663.
The above-contained guidelines are considered by us to be best practices for many installations, but cannot be warranted to be complete or
accurate as each installation may vary widely by environment and/or conditions. You should always ensure to comply with vehicle manufacturer
guidelines and recommendations, as well as applicable codes. It is recommended that a qualified technician perform the installation.
