If this is the first time setting up Solana, please review the Solana User Manual to enable the features on your
new Solana.

Solana and Virena Mode Installation Instructions
There are a few simple steps required in order to set up your Virena WR11 Router and Solana. Let’s begin with
the Virena WR11 Router:
Virena Router Installation and Connection
1. Connect the 2 Cellular Antennas: Connect the 2 cellular antennas to the connectors on the router (Figure
1). The antennas provide improved signal strength resulting in better performance.
2. Connect the Power Supply: Connect the plug end of the 5 volt
power supply to the power connector on the router. Insert power
supply end fully and rotate clockwise to engage and lock (Figure 2).
Then plug the other end into a wall outlet.

3. Connectivity Verification: After powering on the Virena WR11 Router, wait 5 minutes before confirming
the following lights are illuminated for connection purposes (Figure 3).
◼POWER –solid green light
◼SIGNAL –solid green light represents
good connection. If amber color light is
shown, consider relocating the router to
a different location.
◼SERVICE –this light should flash in
groups of either 1, 2 or 3 times
Note: The connection provisioning time may take up to 15 minutes. If there is no Verizon Wireless connection
or if LAN connection is preferred, please contact Quidel Technical Support at 800.874.1517 (in the U.S.),
Solana Installation and Connection
There are five (5) steps to establishing the connection between the Solana and Virena WR11 Router.

Solana and Virena WR11 Router Connection
1. Power OFF Solana.
2. Connect the Ethernet Cable: Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the port on the router and the
other end to a LAN port on the back side of Solana (Figure 4).
3. Power ON Solana.

Set Network Configuration on Solana
1. Go to System (log in as Admin) Settings Device Settings Network Configuration LAN
2. Tap Static IP and ensure Static IP is highlighted, see Figure 5. Tap entry field next to “IP Address”, enter the
IP network address to 192.168.0.6 and tap the enter key.
Verify that all configurations on your device
including: Subnet Mask, match what is shown in Figure 5.
If it does not match, please enter the correct numbers and
tap the enter key.
Tap the green checkmark.
3. Network Settings menu will be displayed. Tap the "LAN"
button to view the LAN screen. Ensure the IP address is valid.
Return to the Main Menu by tapping the cancel button and then the back button.
Note: The IP address will automatically be entered if Solana is already connected to the Virena WR11 Router.
Virena Mode Set Up –Virena Settings
1. Go to Main Menu Settings Device Settings Network Configuration Virena Settings.
2. In Virena Settings screen (Figure 6):
Activate Virena –tap to turn on.
Result transfer –tap to turn on.
Network updates –tap to turn on.

3. When completed, tap the next button (purple arrow pointing right in the lower right corner).
4. Tap the entry field next to Virena IP Address, enter IP network address to 192.168.0.9 and tap the enter
key. (Figure 7)
5. Tap the entry field next to Result transfer Port Nbr.:, enter Port
Number to 10003 and tap the enter key.
6. Tap the entry field next to Network update Port Nbr.:, enter Port
Number to 10005 and tap the enter key.
7. Tap the green checkmark.
Return to the Main Menu by tapping the cancel button and then the back button.
Virena WR11 Router Connection Verification
1. Go to System (log in as Admin) Maintenance Virena Status (Figure 8)
2. Tap the green checkmark next to “send last result” and wait for confirmation in the status bar.
3. When “All results sent” status is reported, connection is confirmed. Return to the Main Menu by tapping
the back button and then the Home button.
4. If connection is not confirmed, return to the Main Menu by tapping the back button and then the Home
button.

connections are correct:

Perform a Test in Virena Mode
1. Go to Main Menu New Test.
2. Select Test, choose tube locations, enter Lot ID and Kit Exp. Date, and then tap Next.
3. Sample ID and Patient Demographics screen is displayed (Figure 8).
4. Enter Sample ID, if required. Tap the enter key.
5. Enter numeric value for “Age” in years. Tap the enter key.
6. Press the down arrow and select “Patient Status” (tap In-patient, Out-patient, or Proficiency).
7. Tap open button under Study Fields, if required. Enter 2 digit Study Field and tap the enter key after each
Study field. Then tap the green checkmark.
8. Assign the Sample ID to the appropriate tube as required. Repeat steps 4-8 as necessary for each tube.
Then tap the green checkmark.
9. Tap the green start button to begin the test.
Note: Study Code A-D allows for additional demographics data not currently defined in Sofia with a limit of 2
numeric characters.
