Radio Shack 270-1565 User manual

The US Society of Automotive Engineers
[SAE] has documented the existence of
power surges and high voltage spikes on
cigarette lighters and other 12-volt DC power
outlet circuits. These potentially damaging
spikes can be as great as 600 volts!
Computers, TV's, DVD players, PDA's, cell
phones, and other portable electronics can
be damaged by these surges and spikes if
unprotected.Protect your equipment by
plugging the Automotive Surge and Spike
Protector into your vehicle’s cigarette lighter
socket or power outlet. Then plug your
equipment into the Protector.
Thisproduct complies with SAESpecification
J1113-11and ISO Specification 7637. Tests
were performed by an independent testing
laboratory verifying that the unit eliminated
the potentially damaging surges and spikes
identified in these specifications. Use of this
product provides you with an assurance that
your sensitive and valuable electronics are
connected to a powerful, power-conditioning
circuit that will divert damaging high voltage
spikes. The three outlets can carry a
combined 12-volt DC load of 10 amps and
are protected by a replaceable 15-amp fuse.
For best results, follow the Installation and
Use instructions.

Installation and Use
1. Insert the power plug firmly into the vehicle's 12-volt
cigarette outlet or other 12 volt-DC power source.
2. The greenLED should light. If not, try turning the
vehicle's ignition switch to the "On" or "Accessory"
position. Some vehicles turn off all 12-volt circuits
when the key is turned off.
If you are using a cigarette lighter receptacle and the
LED still does not light, check the cigarette lighter
circuit to see if the lighter heatsup. Push the lighter
intothereceptacleuntilitlatches.Ifthelighterdoesnot
heatup and popoutafter 30 seconds, you may havea
defective lighter or a blown fuse in the lighter circuit.
Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for the fuse
location and replacement procedure.
If you are using a separately provided 12-voltDC
power outlet and the LED does not light, check the
fuse in the circuit by referring to your owner’s manual
for the fuse location and replacement procedure.
3. If the LED goes out, the adapter’s surge and spike
protection circuits are not working. Check the
adapter’s replaceable fuse and if blown, replace with
the same type of 15-amp fuse. Replace the fuse by
pressing in the tip, rotating it, then pull to remove.
4. Before using the adapter, unplug all itemsconnected
to the adapter. Connect your products one at a time
to see if one of the products is causing the fuse to
blow. If the fuse blows immediately after inserting the
product'sadapterplugintoanoutlet,replacethefuse
in the adapter and have the product repaired.
5. If the green LED turns off after normal operation, the
surge and spike protector has experienced a
powerfulsurgeandhas protectedyour equipment.In
doing so, the protection circuitry has been depleted
and the surge and spike protector must be replaced
to continue protecting your equipment.
