1.Introduction
ThisUser’sGuidedescribeshow toinstall,use, andtroubleshootthe RATOCCB31UUltraSCSI CardBusPC
Card(calledCB31UinthisUser’sGuide).
1-1. Package Confirmation
Checkpackage contents:
• CB31 Ultra SCSI CardBus PC Card
• CB31 setup CD-ROM 1, floppy disk 1
• CB31U startup guide
• High-Density50-pincable
NOTE
IfanyoftheseitemsaremissingfromtheCB31Uretailpackage,contactyoursupplier
immediately.
1-2. System Requirements
• PCwith a CardBusslot
• Windows 95B/ Windows 95C/Windows 98 /Windows98 SE (SecondEdition)
Windows Xp/Windows2000 /WindowsMe (MillenniumEdition)
NOTE
If the version of yourWindows 95 is 4.00.950 or 4.00.950A, you can not use the CB31U.

Whenyou use Windows 95, go to Chapter2-1.
Whenyou use Windows 98, go to Chapter2-2.
Whenyouuse Windows Me, go toChapter 2-3.
When you use Windows 2000, go to Chapter 2-4.
Whenyou use WindowsXp, go to Chapter2-5.
Restrictions
•At least one SCSI device must supply termination power to the SCSI bus. Read the SCSI device
manualifyou arenot surewhetherthe SCSIdeviceprovides terminationpower. But,thereis anexception.
You can connectIomega Zipdrive to theCB31U, though theZip drivecan not providetermination
power.
•You can notboot up system froma SCSI device connected tothe CB31U. Do notinstall Operating
System into a SCSI device connected to the CB31U because you can not boot up system from it.
•Youcan not format a HDD,Jaz, Zip drive connected tothe CB31U with FDISK command.Andyou
cannot use software using DISK-BIOS(INT13h). If you want toformat and create partition,use our
SCSI utility. Refer to Chapter 4.
•Donot enable virtualmemory settingfor a HDD,Jaz, Zip driveconnected to theCB31U.
• The CB31U does not support DOS mode ofWindows 98/95.
•The total lengthof cablingon the SCSIbus should notexceed 5ft(1.5m).
•It is notrecommended that youconnect more thantwo SCSIdevicesin daisy-chain.
• If your PC has only one PC card slot which is connected to a floppy disk drive, you have to copy the
filesin the floppydisk supplied fromus onto yourHDD before youset up theCB31U.
• Donot turn off yourSCSI device connected tothe CB31U whenyou have the PCin suspend(resume).
If you want to have the PC in suspend mode, remove the CB31U from the PC.

2-1. Windows 95 Setup
Here’s how to get started with the CB31U and SCSI devices on Windows 95:
1.Check therestrictions beforeyou installtheCB31U.
2.Install the CB31U into the PC. Refer to Chapter 2-1-1.
3.Confirm theinstallation. Referto Chapter2-1-2.
4.Remove the CB31U from the PC. Refer to Chapter 2-1-3.
5.Connect the CB31U to the PC. Refer to Chapter 3-1.
6.Confirm the SCSIconnection. Refer toChapter 3-2.
2-1-1. Installing the CB31U on Windows 95
1. Check yourVersion ofWindows 95.
a. ClickMyComputer with the right button.
b. Select Properties.You will see the SystemPropertieswindow below.
c. Click the General tab.
d. If you can find 4.00.950 B or 4.00.950 C, you can use the CB31U.
NOTE
If the version of your Windows 95 is 4.00.950 or 4.00.950 A, you can not use the CB31U.

Ifyou findaPCICorcompatible PCMCIAcontrollerstring underthe PCMCIAsocket, yourPC
Cardslot may not beable to use CardBusPC Card or CardBussetting may be setdisable in the
BIOS of your PC. If CardBus setting is disable in the BIOS, select CardBus from Disable/PCIC
Compatible/CardBusoption inthe BIOSto setCardBus settingenable.
NOTE
IfaCardBuscontrollernamestringdoesnotappear,or ifitappearswitha“!”or“X”marknext
toit,enabletheCardBuscontrollerwithPCCard(PCMCIA)Wizard.Formoreinformation,
pleasecontact yourPCmanufacturer.
2. Check to see if your PCMCIA Controller supports CardBus PC Cards.
a. In the System Properties window shown above, click the Device Manager tab.
b. Double-click on the PCMCIA socket string and make sure there is a CardBus controller
name string without “!” or “X” marks.

c.Double-click theCardBus controller namestring toshow theproperty window.IfThisdeviceis
workingproperlyappears under the Device status, you can use the CB31U.
3.GrasptheCB31U bytheedges withthelabelfacing upward.Insert theCB31Uintothe slotandpushit in
untilitis firmlyseated. IftheCB31U cannotbe firmlyseated, checktosee ifthePC Cardslot supports
CardBus PC Cards. If the following window do not appear, the PC may not support CardBus PC
Cards.Formore information,contact yourPCmanufacturer.

4.When the UpdateDeviceDriverWizardWindowAppears
a. When the UpdateDevice DriverWizardwindow appears, insertthe CD-ROM or thefloppy disk
includedin thispackageand clickNext.
b.When SCSICardBusPCCardREX CB31appearsin the window,clickFinish.

c.Ifa messagerequesting insertionof afloppy diskappears,click OK.
d.When CopyingFiles...appears,you willsee a messageprompting youto insertthe setupdisk. Then
typea:\asfloppy driveletter ortype CD-ROMdrive letter forthe sourceof filesand click OK.
e.Wait untilthe PCCard(PCMCIA)icon appearson theWindows taskbar.This iconindicates that
the CB31U is recognized.
f.Removethe floppy diskor the CD-ROM fromthe PC.

1.Click MyComputerwiththeright button.
2.Select Properties.You will seethe SystemPropertieswindow below.
3. Click the Device Manager tab.
4.Double-click SCSIControllersinthelist.
5.Make sure thereis a SCSICardBusPCCard REXCB31string without “!”or “X”marks.
6.Double-click the SCSICardBusPCCardREXCB31 string toshow theproperty window.

7. Click on the General tab. If This Device is working properly appears under Device status, you
installedtheCB31Udriver correctly.
2-1-3. Removing the CB31U
Whenyou wantto removethe CB31Ufrom thePC, youhave tofollow thesesteps through.
1. ClickthePC Cardicon on theWindows taskbar.
2. You willseethe messagesaying StopREXCB31.
3. SelectStop SCSICardBusPCCard REX CB31.
4. When the window saying You may safely remove this device appears, you can remove the
CB31Ufrom the PC.
5. Pressanejectbutton ofthePCCard slot(1).Graspthe CB31Ubytheedge andpullit straightout
of the PC Card slot (2).

2-2-1. Installing the CB31U on Windows 98
1.Check to see if your PCMCIA Controller supports CardBus PC Cards.
a.Click MyComputerwiththeright button.
b.Select Properties.Youwill see theSystemPropertieswindowbelow.
c. Click the Device Manager tab.
d.Double-clickon thePCMCIAsocketstringand makesure thereis aCardBuscontroller name
stringwithout“!”or“X”marks.
NOTE
IfaCardBuscontrollernamestringdoesnotappear,or ifitappearswitha“!”or“X”marknext
toit,enabletheCardBuscontrollerwithPCCard(PCMCIA)Wizard.Formoreinformation,
pleasecontact yourPCmanufacturer.

Here’s how to get started with the CB31U andSCSI devices onWindows98:
1.Check therestrictions beforeyou installtheCB31U.
2.Install the CB31U into the PC. Refer to Chapter 2-2-1.

If you find a PCICorcompatiblePCMCIA controller string under the PCMCIAsocket, your
PCCardslot may not beable to use CardBus PCCard or CardBus setting maybe set disable in
theBIOS of yourPC. IfCardBus setting isdisable in theBIOS, selectCardBus fromDisable/
PCICCompatible/CardBusoption inthe BIOSto setCardBus settingenable.
e.Double-click theCardBus controller namestring toshow the propertywindows. IfThisdevice is
workingproperlyappears under the Device status, you can use the CB31U.
2.GrasptheCB31U bytheedges withthelabelfacing upward.Insert theCB31Uintothe slotandpushit in
untilit is firmlyseated. Ifthe CB31Ucan not befirmly seated, checkto see ifthe PCCard slot supports
CardBus PC Cards. If the following windows do not appear, the PC may not support CardBus PC
Cards. Check to see if the PC Card slot supports CardBus PC Cards. For more information, contact
your PCmanufacturer.

b.When the following window appears, select Searchforthebestdriver foryourdevice
(Recommended) and click Next.
3.When theAddNewHardwareWizardWindowAppears
a. When the AddNewHardwareWizardwindow appears, insert the floppy disk or the CD-ROM
includedin thispackageand clickNext.

c.When thefollowing window appears,checkFloppy diskdrivesor CD-ROMdrive and clickNext.
d.Whenthe followingwindow appears,selectTheupdateddriver(Recommended)
SCSI CardBus PC Card REX CB31 and click Next.
IfAdvanSys PCI SCSIHostAdapter appears instead of SCSI CardBusPCCardREX CB31
underThe updated driver (Recommended), see When you selectOneoftheother drivers.

f.Whenthefollowingwindowappears,clickFinish.
g.Wait untilthe PCCard(PCMCIA)iconappears ontheWindowstaskbar.Thisicon indicatesthat
the CB31U is recognized.
h.Removethe floppydisk fromthe PC.
e.Whenthe followingwindow appears,click Next.

When you select one of the other drivers.
IfAdvanSys PCI SCSIHostAdapter appears instead of SCSICardBusPC Card REXCB31
under Theupdated driver(Recommended)at step d.in 3., youhave to select oneof the otherdrivers.
1.Select One oftheotherdrivers. Click the ViewListbutton.
2. Select SCSI CardBus PC Card REX CB31.
