Thichaptercontaintheafetyinformationthatyoumutbefamiliarwith.
Powercordsandpoweradapters
Ueonlythepowercordandpoweradapteruppliedbytheproductmanufacturer.
Thepowercordhallbeafetyapproved.ForGermany,ithallbeH05VV-F,3G,0.75mm2,orbetter.For
othercountrie,theuitabletypehallbeuedaccordingly.
Neverwrapapowercordaroundapoweradapterorotherobject.Doingocantrethecordinwaythat
cancauethecordtofray,crack,orcrimp.Thicanpreentaafetyhazard.
Alwayroutepowercordothattheywillnotbewalkedon,trippedover,orpinchedbyobject.
Protectpowercordandpoweradapterfromliquid.Forintance,donotleaveyourpowercordorpower
adapternearink,tub,toilet,oronfloorthatarecleanedwithliquidcleaner.Liquidcancauea
hortcircuit,particularlyifthepowercordorpoweradapterhabeentreedbymiue.Liquidalocan
cauegradualcorroionofpowercordterminaland/ortheconnectorterminalonapoweradapter,
whichcaneventuallyreultinoverheating.
Enurethatallpowercordconnectorareecurelyandcompletelypluggedintoreceptacle.
Donotueanypoweradapterthathowcorroionattheacinputpinorhowignofoverheating(uch
adeformedplatic)attheacinputoranywhereonthepoweradapter.
Donotueanypowercordwheretheelectricalcontactoneitherendhowignofcorroionor
overheatingorwherethepowercordappeartohavebeendamagedinanyway.
Generalsafety
Followtheeruletoenuregeneralafety:
•Obervegoodhouekeepingintheareaofthemachineduringandaftermaintenance.
•Whenliftinganyheavyobject:
1.Enureyoucantandafelywithoutlipping.
2.Ditributetheweightoftheobjectequallybetweenyourfeet.
3.Uealowliftingforce.Nevermoveuddenlyortwitwhenyouattempttolift.
4.Liftbytandingorbypuhingupwithyourlegmucle;thiactionremovethetrainfromthe
mucleinyourback.
Attention:
Donotattempttoliftanyobjectthatweighmorethan16kg(35lb)orobjectthatyouthinkare
tooheavyforyou.
•Donotperformanyactionthatcauehazardtothecutomer,orthatmaketheequipmentunafe.
•Beforeyoutartthemachine,enurethatotherervicerepreentativeandthecutomer'peronnelare
notinahazardoupoition.

•Placeremovedcoverandotherpartinaafeplace,awayfromallperonnel,whileyouareervicing
themachine.
•Keepyourtoolcaeawayfromwalkareaothatotherpeoplewillnottripoverit.
•Donotwearlooeclothingthatcanbetrappedinthemovingpartofamachine.Enurethatyourleeve
arefatenedorrolledupaboveyourelbow.Ifyourhairilong,fatenit.
•Inerttheendofyournecktieorcarfinideclothingorfatenitwithanonconductiveclip,approximately
8centimeter(3inche)fromtheend.
•Donotwearjewelry,chain,metal-frameeyeglae,ormetalfatenerforyourclothing.
Remember:Metalobjectaregoodelectricalconductor.
•Wearafetyglaewhenyouare:hammering,drilling,oldering,cuttingwire,attachingpring,uing
olvent,orworkinginanyotherconditionthatmightbehazardoutoyoureye.
•Afterervice,reintallallafetyhield,guard,label,andgroundwire.Replaceanyafetydevice
thatiwornordefective.
•Reintallallcovercorrectlybeforereturningthemachinetothecutomer.
CAUTION:
Hazardousmovingparts.Keepfingersandotherbodypartsaway.
CAUTION:
Beforeyouopenthecomputercover,turnoffthecomputerandwaitseveralminutesuntilthe
computeriscool.
Electricalsafety
CAUTION:
Electricalcurrentfrompower,telephone,andcommunicationcablescanbehazardous.Toavoid
personalinjuryorequipmentdamage,disconnecttheattachedpowercords,telecommunication
systems,networks,andmodemsbeforeyouopenthecomputercovers,unlessinstructedotherwise
intheinstallationandconfigurationprocedures.
Obervethefollowingrulewhenworkingonelectricalequipment.
Important:Ueonlyapprovedtoolandtetequipment.Somehandtoolhavehandlecoveredwithaoft
materialthatdoenotinulateyouwhenworkingwithliveelectricalcurrent.Manycutomerhave,near
theirequipment,rubberfloormatthatcontainmallconductivefibertodecreaeelectrotaticdicharge.
Donotuethitypeofmattoprotectyourelffromelectricalhock.

•Findtheroomemergencypower-off(EPO)witch,diconnectingwitch,orelectricaloutlet.Ifanelectrical
accidentoccur,youcanthenoperatethewitchorunplugthepowercordquickly.
•Donotworkaloneunderhazardouconditionornearequipmentthathahazardouvoltage.
•Diconnectallpowerbefore:
–Performingamechanicalinpection
–Workingnearpowerupplie
–RemovingorintallingFieldReplaceableUnit(FRU)
•Beforeyoutarttoworkonthemachine,unplugthepowercord.Ifyoucannotunplugit,poweroffthe
wallboxthatuppliepowertothemachineandlockthewallboxintheoffpoition.
•Ifyouneedtoworkonamachinethathaexpoedelectricalcircuit,obervethefollowingprecaution:
–Enurethatanotherperon,familiarwiththepower-offcontrol,inearyou.
Remember:Anotherperonmutbetheretowitchoffthepower,ifneceary.
–Ueonlyonehandwhenworkingwithpowered-onelectricalequipment;keeptheotherhandinyour
pocketorbehindyourback.
Remember:Theremutbeacompletecircuittocaueelectricalhock.Byobervingtheaboverule,
youmaypreventacurrentfrompaingthroughyourbody.
–Whenuingateter,etthecontrolcorrectlyanduetheapprovedprobeleadandacceoriefor
thatteter.
–Standonuitablerubbermat(obtainedlocally,ifneceary)toinulateyoufromgrounducha
metalfloortripandmachineframe.
Obervethepecialafetyprecautionwhenyouworkwithveryhighvoltage;theeintructionarein
theafetyectionofmaintenanceinformation.Ueextremecarewhenmeauringhighvoltage.
•Regularlyinpectandmaintainyourelectricalhandtoolforafeoperationalcondition.
•Donotuewornorbrokentoolandteter.
•Neverassumethatpowerhabeendiconnectedfromacircuit.Firt,checkthatithabeenpowered-off.
•Alwaylookcarefullyforpoiblehazardinyourworkarea.Exampleoftheehazardaremoitfloor,
nongroundedpowerextenioncable,powerurge,andmiingafetyground.
•Donottouchliveelectricalcircuitwiththereflectiveurfaceofaplaticdentalmirror.Theurfacei
conductive;uchtouchingcancaueperonalinjuryandmachinedamage.
•Donotervicethefollowingpartwiththepoweronwhentheyareremovedfromtheirnormaloperating
placeinamachine:
–Powerupplyunit
–Pump
–Blowerandfan
–Motorgenerator
andimilarunit.(Thipracticeenurecorrectgroundingoftheunit.)
•Ifanelectricalaccidentoccur:
–Uecaution;donotbecomeavictimyourelf.
–Switchoffpower.
–Sendanotherperontogetmedicalaid.

Safetyinspectionguide
Theintentofthiinpectionguideitoaityouinidentifyingpotentiallyunafeconditiononthee
product.Eachmachine,aitwadeignedandbuilt,hadrequiredafetyitemintalledtoprotectuer
anderviceperonnelfrominjury.Thiguideaddreeonlythoeitem.However,goodjudgmenthould
beuedtoidentifypotentialafetyhazardduetoattachmentoffeatureoroptionnotcoveredbythi
inpectionguide.
Ifanyunafeconditionarepreent,youmutdeterminehowerioutheapparenthazardcouldbeand
whetheryoucancontinuewithoutfirtcorrectingtheproblem.
Conidertheeconditionandtheafetyhazardtheypreent:
•Electricalhazard,epeciallyprimarypower(primaryvoltageontheframecancaueeriouorfatal
electricalhock).
•Exploivehazard,uchaadamagedCRTfaceorbulgingcapacitor
•Mechanicalhazard,uchalooeormiinghardware
Theguideconitofaerieofteppreentedinachecklit.Beginthecheckwiththepoweroff,and
thepowercorddiconnected.
Checklit:
1.Checkexteriorcoverfordamage(looe,broken,orharpedge).
2.Power-offthecomputer.Diconnectthepowercord.
3.Checkthepowercordfor:
a.Athird-wiregroundconnectoringoodcondition.Ueametertomeaurethird-wireground
continuityfor0.1ohmorlebetweentheexternalgroundpinandframeground.
b.Thepowercordhouldbetheappropriatetypeapecifiedinthepartliting.
c.Inulationmutnotbefrayedorworn.
4.Removethecover.
5.Checkforanyobvioualteration.Uegoodjudgmentatotheafetyofanyalteration.
6.Checkinidetheunitforanyobviouunafecondition,uchametalfiling,contamination,wateror
otherliquid,orignoffireormokedamage.
7.Checkforworn,frayed,orpinchedcable.
8.Checkthatthepower-upplycoverfatener(creworrivet)havenotbeenremovedortamperedwith.
Handlingelectrostaticdischarge-sensitivedevices
Anycomputerpartcontainingtranitororintegratedcircuit(IC)houldbeconideredenitiveto
electrotaticdicharge(ESD).ESDdamagecanoccurwhenthereiadifferenceinchargebetweenobject.
ToprotectagaintESDdamage,equalizethechargebetweenobject.Then,themachine,thepart,the
workmat,andtheperonhandlingthepartareallattheamecharge.
Notes:
1.Ueproduct-pecificESDprocedurewhentheyexceedtherequirementnotedhere.
2.MakeurethattheESDprotectivedeviceyouuehavebeencertified(ISO9000)afullyeffective.
WhenhandlingESD-enitivepart:
•Keepthepartinprotectivepackageuntiltheyareinertedintotheproduct.
•Avoidcontactwithotherpeoplewhilehandlingthepart.

uefulwhenhandlingESD-enitivedevice.
•Selectagroundingytem,uchathoelitedbelow,toprovideprotectionthatmeetthepecific
ervicerequirement.
