1.Introduction
ThisUser’sGuidedescribeshowtoinstall,use,andtroubleshoottheRATOCCB32UUltraWideSCSICardBus
PCCard(calledCB32UinthisUser’sGuide).TheinformationintheREADME.TXTfileonthefloppydiskmay
includethelatestinformation.BesuretoreadtheREADME.TXTfileaswell.

1-2. System Requirements
• PCwithaCardBus slot
• Windows95B/Windows95C/Windows 98/Windows 98SE(SecondEdition)
Wsindows NT4.0/Windows 2000/Windows Me(MillenniumEdition)/WindowsXP
NOTE
If the version of your Windows 95 is 4.00.950 or 4.00.950 A, you can not use the CB32U.

When you use Windows 95, proceed to Chapter 2-1.
When you use Windows 98, proceed to Chapter 2-2.
When you use Windows Me, proceed to Chapter 2-3.
When you use Windows NT4.0, proceed to Chapter 2-4.
When you use Windows 2000, proceed to Chapter 2-5.
When you use Windows XP, proceed to Chapter 2-6.
Restrictions
•At least one SCSI device must supply termination power to the SCSI bus. Read yourSCSIdevice
manualif youare notsurewhethertheSCSI deviceprovidesterminationpower.But,thereis anexception.
Youcanconnect Iomega Zip drive totheCB32U,though the Zip drive cannotprovidetermination
power.
•You can not boot up system from a SCSI device connected to the CB32U. Do not install Operating
System into a SCSI device connected to the CB32U because you can not boot up system from it.
•You can not format a HDD, Jaz, Zip drive connected to the CB32U with FDISK command. And you
cannotusesoftwareusingDISK-BIOS(INT13h). If you want to format and create partition, use our
SCSI utility. Refer to Chapter 4-1.
•Do notenablevirtualmemorysettingfor a HDD, Jaz, Zip drive connected totheCB32U.
• The CB32U does not support DOS mode of Windows 98/95.
•The total length of cabling on the SCSI bus shoud not exceed 5ft(1.5m).
•It is not recommended thatyouconnectmorethantwo SCSI devices in daisy-chain.
• If your PC has only one PC card slot which is connected to a floppy disk drive, you have to copy the
files in thefloppydisksuppliedfromusontoyour HDD before you set up the CB32U.
•DonotturnoffyourSCSIdeviceconnectedtotheCB32UwhenyouhavethePCinstanby/suspend.
If you want to have the PC in standby/suspend mode, remove the CB32U from the PC.
• You can not connect a narrow SCSI device to a wide SCSI device connected to the CB32U.
You can not connect a wide SCSI device to a narrow SCSI device connected to the CB32U.
• CardWizard software is required to use the CB32U on Windows NT4.0.
TheCardWizardsoftwareisavailable through www.systemsoft.com.
You have to purchase it from the web site andinstallitbeforeyouuseitonWindows NT4.0.

2-1. Windows 95 Setup
Here’s how to get started with the CB32U and SCSI devices on Windows 95:
1.Readthe restrictionsbeforeyou install theCB32U.
2.Install the CB32U into the PC. Refer to Chapter 2-1-1.
3.Confirmthe installation.Referto Chapter 2-1-2.
4.Remove the CB32U from the PC. Refer to Chapter 2-1-3.
5.Connect a SCSI device. Refer to Chapter 3-1.
6.ConfirmtheSCSI connection. Refer to Chapter 3-2.
2-1-1. Installing the CB32U on Windows 95
1. Check your Version of Windows 95.
a. Right-click on My Computer.
b. Select Properties. You will see the SystemPropertieswindow below.
c. Click the General tab.
d. If you can find 4.00.950 B or 4.00.950 C, you can use the CB32U.
NOTE
If the version of your Windows 95 is 4.00.950 or 4.00.950 A, you can not use the CB32U.

Ifyoufind a PCICorcompatiblePCMCIAcontrollerstringunder the PCMCIAsocket,yourPC
Cardslotmaynotsupport CardBus PC Cards or CardBus setting may be set disable inthe
BIOSofyourPC.IfCardBus setting is set disable in the BIOS, select CardBusfromDisable/PCIC
Compatible/CardBusoptionin the BIOStoset CardBussettingenable.
NOTE
Ifa CardBuscontrollernamestring doesnotappear,or ifitappearswitha“!”or“X”marknext
toit,enabletheCardBuscontrollerwithPCCard(PCMCIA)Wizard.Formore information,
pleasecontactyourPC manufacturer.
c.Double-clickthe CardBus controller namestringtoshow the property window. IfThis deviceis
workingproperlyappears under the Devicestatus, you can use the CB32U.
2.Check to see if your PCMCIA Controller supports CardBus PC Cards.
a. In the System Properties window shown below, click the Device Manager tab.
b. Double-clickPCMCIAsocketandmakesure there isaCardBus controllernamestring without
“!” or “X” marks.

3. Graspthe CB32U bytheedges with thelabelfacing upward.Insertthe CB32U intotheslot and pushit
inuntilit isfirmlyseated.IftheCB32Ucannotbefirmlyseated,checktoseeifthePC Cardslotsupports
CardBus PC Cards. If the following window as shown at step 4 does not appear, the PC may not
supportCardBusPC Cards. Formoreinformation, contact yourPCmanufacturer.
4.When the UpdateDeviceDriverWizardWindowAppears
a. WhentheUpdateDeviceDriver Wizard windowappears,inserttheCB32U floppy disk for
Windows 98/95 and click Next.
b.When SCSICardBusPCCardREX CB32 appears in the window, click Finish.

e.Waituntilthe PCCard(PCMCIA)iconappears on theWindowstaskbar. Thisiconindicates that
the CB32U is recognized.
f.Remove the floppydiskfrom the PC.
c.If amessagerequesting insertion ofafloppy diskappears,click OK.
d.TheCopyingFiles...dialog appears.Typea:\forthesource of files and click OK.

1.Right-click onMyComputer.
2.SelectProperties. You will see theSystemPropertieswindow below.
3. Click the Device Manager tab.
4.Double-clickSCSIControllersinthe list.
5.Makesurethere is a SCSICardBusPCCardREXCB32 string without “!”or “X”marks.
6.Double-clicktheSCSI CardBusPCCardREXCB32string to show the propertywindow.
7.Click the General tab. If This deviceisworkingproperlyappears under Devicestatus, you
haveinstalledthe CB32U driver correctly.

2-1-3. Removing the CB32U
Whenyou want toremovethe CB32U fromthePC, you havetofollow these stepsthrough:
1. ClickthePCCardicon on theWindowstaskbar.
2. SelectStopSCSICardBusPCCardREXCB32.
3. When the window saying You may safely remove this device appears, you can remove the
CB32UfromthePC.
4. Pressanejectbutton ofthe PCCard slot(1). Graspthe CB32Ubytheedgeandpullit straightout
of the PC Card slot (2).

1.Check to see if your PCMCIA Controller supports CardBus PC Cards.
a.Right-click onMyComputer.

If you find a PCICorcompatiblePCMCIAcontrollerstring under the PCMCIAsocket,
yourPCCardslotmaynotsupportCardBusPCCards or CardBus setting may be set disable in
theBIOSofyour PC. If CardBus setting is set disableintheBIOS,select CardBus from Disable/
PCICCompatible/CardBusoptioninthe BIOS tosetCardBus settingenable.
e.Double-click theCardBus controller namestring to showthe property window. If Thisdeviceis
workingproperlyappears under the Devicestatus, you can use the CB32U.
2.Grasp theCB32U bythe edgeswiththelabelfacingupward.InserttheCB32U intothe slotandpushitin
untilitisfirmly seated. IftheCB32Ucannot be firmly seated, check to seeifthePCCard slot supports
CardBus PC Cards. If the following window as shown at step 3 does not appear, the PC may not
support CardBus PC Cards. Check to see if the PC Card slot supports CardBus PC Cards. For more
information,contact your PCmanufacturer.

b.Whenthefollowing window appears, select the Searchforthebestdriver for yourdevice
(Recommended)option and click Next.
3.Whenthe AddNewHardwareWizardWindow Appears
a. WhentheAdd NewHardwareWizardwindow appears, inserttheCB32U floppy diskfor Win-
dows 98/95 and click Next.
c.Whenthe following window appears,selecttheFloppydiskdrivesoptionandclick Next.

f.When thefollowing windowappears, clickFinish.
g.Wait until thePCCard(PCMCIA)iconappears ontheWindowstaskbar.Thisicon indicatesthat
the CB32U is recognized.
h.Remove thefloppydisk from thePC.
To confirm theinstallation of the driver, refertoChapter 2-1-2.
e.When thefollowingwindowappears, clickNext.
d.When thefollowingwindow appears,selectthe Theupdateddriver(Recommended)
SCSI CardBus PCCard REX CB32option and click Next.

Card slot may notsupportCardBusPC Cards or CardBus setting may be set disable in the
BIOSof your PC. If CardBussettingisset disable in the BIOS,selectCardBusfrom Disable/PCIC
Compatible/CardBusoptionin the BIOS to set CardBussettingenable.

e.Double-click theCardBus controller namestring to showthe property window. If Thisdeviceis
workingproperlyappears under the Devicestatus, you can use the CB32U.
2.Grasp theCB32U bythe edgeswiththelabelfacingupward.InserttheCB32U intothe slotandpushitin
untilitis firmly seated. If the CB32U cannotbefirmlyseated, check to see if thePCCardslotsupports
CardBus PC Cards. If the following window as shown at step 3 does not appear, the PC may not
support CardBus PC Cards. Check to see if the PC Card slot supports CardBus PC Cards. For more
information,contact yourPCmanufacturer.

Click Next.

c.Wait until thePCCard(PCMCIA)iconappears ontheWindowstaskbar. Thisiconindicates that
the CB32U is recognized.
d.Remove thefloppydisk from thePC.
To confirm theinstallationof the driver, referto Chapter 2-1-2.
