luminaires must be earthed.
•Please Note: For Emergency versions there will also be
an un-switched permanent LIVE which is connected to the
terminal marked Permanent Live.
•Ensure there are no exposed conductors, loose strands or
trapped insulation.
•Refit the diffuser cover.
•Switch on the power supply.
Microwave Sensor
The Microwave Sensor has 3 dials (lux level, time & sensitivity
range). Adjust the dials to suit your requirements and
maximise energy savings.

Testing
The emergency light must be tested and inspected regularly in accordance with local codes of practice. Note: for safety
reasons, tests should be carried out during daylight hours.
The minimum recommended test schedule is as follows:
After installation, allow 36 hours to ensure full battery charge, and then
interrupt the supply; check after 3 hours that the tube is still lighting.
1. Check that the charge indicator LED is working
2. Monthly – interrupt the power supply for a short period and check tube lights
3. Six-monthly – check one hour duration
4. At the end of 3rd year, and annually thereafter – check 3 hour duration: batteries must be replaced when they can no
longer support 3 hour operation.
5. Complete record sheet on installation and retain in maintenance file.
6. Update file with on-going test records for inspection by fire officer or other duly authorised person.

Description of Microwave Sensor
•The micro-wave sensor option offers presence detection to provide automatic control of lighting loads. It is installed inside the
luminaire so does not affect external aesthetics or IP Rating. Manual adjustments on the sensor allow it to be individually
tailored to suit your application.
Description of Corridor Function
•When the sensor detects movement, the light will operate at 100%.
•If the sensor does not detect any movements, it will dim to around 10% of normal output.
•In emergency mode the Corridor Function will not work.
Positioning
•The luminaire with detector should be sited so that the occupants of the room fall inside the detection patterns shown in the
appropriate diagram below:
•The diagram is based on a ceiling mounting height of 2.5m. Note that the lower the sensor is installed, the smaller the
detection range will be.
•If wall mounted, the detection zone will vary depending on the surroundings but perpendicular reach will be at least 10m.
•The area closest to the sensor & also the
area more perpendicular to the sensor will
have higher sensitivity.
•The distance quoted are approximate & may
vary depending on surroundings.
•Avoid direct sunlight entering the sensor.
•Do not site within 1m of forced air heating
or ventilation.
•Do not fix to a vibrating surface.
•Avoid metallic objects directly in front of
the sensor head.
•These sensor kits are capable of switching
/ controlling more than one luminaire in a
‘master & slave’ set up. This is done by
linking non-sensored fittings (slaves) to the
one with the sensor fitted (master) using the
live output from the sensor.
NOTE! DO NOT link other fittings containing
MW sensors together in this way, as it can
cause false triggering of the sensors.

Settings
•The following adjustments can be made using the three dials located on the sensor unit. The TIME & SENSITIVITY settings
are helped via a LED setting indicator.
1. SENSITIVITY
Rotate the dial to control the diameter of the detection pattern, from 1m minimum (fully anti-clockwise) to 10m maximum
(fully clockwise). The LED setting indicator will flash to indicate the setting selected, e.g. 10 flashes = 10m diameter.
2. TIME
Rotate the dial to control the length of time the luminaire will stay on after occupancy has ceased. From 10 seconds minimum
(fully anti-clockwise) to 30 minutes maximum (fully clockwise).
The LED setting indicator will flash to indicate the setting selected as follows:
1 flash = 10 seconds, 2 flashes = 1 minute, 3 flashes = 2 minutes, 4 flashes = 5 minutes, 5 flashes = 8 minutes;
6 flashes = 10 minutes; 7 flashes = 15 minutes; 8 flashes = 20 minutes; 9 flashes = 25 minutes; 10 flashes = 30 minutes
3. LUX
Rotate the dial to control the ambient light level at which the sensor will allow the lamps to switch on. This range from 2
lux minimum (fully anti-clockwise) to only switch on when very dark, through to 2000 lux maximum (fully clockwise) to
always switch on regardless of ambient light. Note that the fully clockwise setting should be used to check functionality on
initial installation.

Fault Finding
If you are experiencing a problem please check through the following before making contact with our Customer Services
Department:
Fault - Load does not come on
•Check to see if the live supply to the circuit is good.
•If the supply & wiring are good, check the LUX setting. Increase the LUX level setting to allow the sensor to turn on at
a higher ambient light level (rotate dial clockwise).

Fault - Load does not go off
•Ensure that the area is left unoccupied for longer than the selected timer setting.
•Make sure that the sensor is not adjacent to circulating air, heaters or lamps.
•If the unit “false triggers” reduce the SENSITIVITY level to narrow the area of detection (rotate dial anti clockwise)
•Ensure luminaire is not connected in parallel with other luminaires containing MW sensors
MAINTENANCE
•Cleaning should be carried out at regular intervals so as not to impair photometric performance or thermal safety of
the luminaire.
