Setting Up the Radio
The radio offers you anextensive range of functions
which are groupedin program menupages as shownbelow.
To access the programmenu page, pressPROG key for two
seconds. Scroll with or key throughthe menu pages
and select themenu page bypressing ENTER key. Select
submenu pages andsettings of yourchoice in the same way.
Press PROG key to returnto the previousmenu level, and
keep pressing PROG key to exitthe program menupage.
If no keyare pressed forabout 5 minutes, the radio will
exit program menupage automatically.Two-beepsound
indicates wrong keywas pressed.

In order toreceive alerts, theradio must beset to the
correct weather channeland county code(s)(FIPS code) .
To get these informationfor your area,call the NWS

https://www.weather.gov/nwr/counties
In the aboveweb site, searchthe state andcounty for
your area andthen write downthe Channel (Frequency)
and county code(s). You may wantto obtain thecodes
for other localareas that youtravel through towork.
The radio memorycan store upto 26 county codes (FIPS
codes) to monitoralerts.
There are three(3) county optionsavailable for
your selection. They are:
1. ALL COUNTYCODES,
2. MULTIPLECOUNTY and
3. SINGLE COUNTY.

The radio initiallysets to theALL COUNTYCODES by
default. Withthis option, theradio will respondto all
alerts regardless ofthe affected areas as longas the
channel is correctlyset.
If you wantto monitor alertsin more thanone county
(area), the MULTIPLECOUNTY option would bethe
choice. You can storeup to 26 county codes inthe radio
memory. The more the county codes you store in, the
broader the areacoverage the radiowill monitor and
vice versa.
If the SINGLE COUNTY option is selected, the radio
will monitor alertsonly affecting yourlocal county /
area. You must storethe county code in the first memory
location which isCOUNTY 01.
If the ALL COUNTYCODES option is selected,
this section iscompleted.
If there isno county codesstored in thememory, go
to next step.
6. Press or key to scrollmemory locations forcounty
code entry / edit.
7. Press ENTER key to select.
8. Press or key to inputthe desired codenumber.
9. Press keyto the nextdigit.
10. Repeat steps8 & 9to input the2nd to 6th digit.
11. Press ENTER key to save.

Setting Siren Volume

different noise environmentand hearing impaired use.
Siren mute optionis available fornon-critical events.

If the radioreceives the belowalert messages andthe
siren volume hasbeen set to00 or SIREN MUTE, it will
still be sirenat the volumelevel the sameas to what you

Note
National Weather Service (NWS) Test Signals
Periodic test signals(Required Weekly Test or Required
Monthly Test) are sent out by NWS transmitter stations.
Such test signalsare used tolet the usersto confirm their
alert radios inuse functioning properly.
Upon receiving thetest signal, theradio will displaythe
test message onthe LCD. Thebeep tone (fortest signals)
is disabled bydefault. You can enablethe beep tone in
program menu pageP6.
If the radiohas not receivedany messages (e.g. Test,
Alert or Non-Alertmessages) for consecutive10 days,
the LCD willdisplay: RE-CHECK SET UP.
Receiving Alert Message
When the radioreceives an alertmessage, it willdisplay
the Effective Time (with auto-count-down function) and
respond according tothe alert optionset in program menu
page P4 ( refer toAlert Option Table).The flashing LED
indicates the alertlevel. The radio's real timeclock / date,
together with thealert message willbe logged andsaved
into the eventmemory.
When the radioreceives Non-Alert Messages (refer to
page 6), itwill not giveaudio and visual response but
save the messageto the eventmemory. Ifa new message
is received, theNon-Alert Message will be clearedfrom
the event memoryright away.
For the scrollingmessage, press andhold STOP key will
stop scrolling. Releasethe key willresume scrolling.
In such occasion,you have to
1. check ifthe weather channelis set correctly,
2. check ifthe county codesstored are right for your
local area,
3. check ifthe radio isin weak signal reception (statics),
4. contact yourlocal NOAAto see ifthey transmit test
signals periodically.
The RE-CHECK SET UPmessage will disappear in about
5 minutes afterany key ispressed. Afterthat, You can
review it inthe event memory(by pressing MEMORY
key). It willbe cleared fromthe memory assoon as the
radio decodes thenext coming message.

The Event No., Corresponding to theAlert Message
Table,is displayed onthe LCD.
Some alert messages canbe set tono audio alert(SIREN
and VOICE) but displaythe messages on the LCD in
order not toannoy you frequently.
These messages are groupedfrom Event No. 1 to 48 in
the Alert Message Table. When theradio receives such a
message e.g. REQUIRED WEEKLYTEST, and youhave
already set itblocked, there will beno siren norvoice
alert but displaythe message onthe LCD.
The ALARM OUT socket will not be activated ifthe
blocked event isreceived.

ALARM OUT Socket
If the socketis set toDC OUT, then, whenthe radio
receives alerts, thesocket will output6 Volts DC (the
voltage will beless when theradio is only powered with
back-up batteries) tothe external device.

If the socketis set toSWITCH (as internal POWER
SWITCH), then, whenthe radio receivesalerts, t
turn on the
power of theexternal device / accessory.
For this function,the socket's electricalmaximum

The ALARM OUT socket is providedon the backof the
radio. The socket'soutput is compatible with home
automation devices fromsuppliers such asPlug'n Power,
X-10 or others.Connect a 3.5mm(1/8inch) phone jack
with polarity asindicated underneath thesocket.

When it isnecessary to usethis socket, connectthe
3.5mm (1/8 inch)phone jack tothe socket withpolarity
as indicated underneaththe socket; thespeaker voice is
muted. The volumekeys or , controls the audio
output level.

Siren Test
The SIREN TEST menu page P8 lets you topre-hear
and be familiarwith the actualsiren / beep tone
generated by theradio when actualalerts / tests
are received.
In addition, theALARM OUT socket function can
be tested here.If desired, connectthe external device
to the socketbefore proceeding tothe steps below.
1. The warning siren, watchsiren, advisory siren and
beep tone willbe generated respectivelyeach time
you press orENTER key.
2. The siren / beeptone will last for about 15seconds.
3. Press STOP key will stop the siren / beep tone.
4. During thesiren, the ALARM OUT socket will
output control signalto trigger theexternal device.
5. When the siren /beep tone stops, press PROG key
to exit programmenu page.

Deleting County Code

- Press MEMORY key (in standbymode) to enterevent
memory mode.
LCD Back Light
If the radiois powered upby ACadapter, press ENTER key to
turn on /off LCD back light (togglekey function).
If the radiois powered upby back up battery, pressany key once
will turn onthe LCD backlight for 10 seconds.
If the radiohas not receivedany alert message ever
since the radiopowered up, theLCD will display:
'NO EVENT MESSAGES'.
Press MEMORY key again, youwill see thedate / time
stamp for thealert message atthe time received.The
message number isshown on thebottom right at this
time.
Access to Program Menu Page
- Press andhold PROG key for 2seconds.(instandby mode)
Review Stored CountyCodes
- Press or key (in standbymode) to seethe county code(s).
If alerts havebeen received before,you will see the alert
message and themessage number onthe display.The
highest message numberis for thelatest alert message.
The effective time will beshown if thealert
event is stillin effect. The 'Effective Time OFF', if
shown, indicates theevent effective time count downhas
expired but theemergency event may still continue.
The radio's memorycan store upto 25 alert messages. If
the memory isfull and ifa new messagereceives, the
oldest message willbe cleared andthe new message will
be saved tothe memory.
You must set the realtime clock anddate correctly to
ensure the messagereceiving time inevent memory is
properly displayed.
Standby Mode :When the radio is readyfor use, no
voice on thespeaker, andyou have notpressed any
key, theradio is in standby mode.

Stopping Alarm
Press STOP key to turnoff the alarm.
Press SNOOZE key will turnoff the alarm for about7 minutes.
After that, thealarm will re-activate.The SNOOZE function
can repeat forup to 1hour.
If uninterrupted, thealarm will stopin 1 hour.
The radio offers two (2)alarm clocks. The default alarm
times are 7:00AM and7:30 AMfor alarm clock1 and 2
respectively.
