Powering Up the Radio
Plug the supplied A/C adapter jack to the radio DC JACK.
Then, plug the A/C adapter to a standard 120V A/C wall outlet.
Setting Time and Date
The date/time must be set correctly as it will be the alert
time for the event message saved to the memory.
Note
3. Press key to save time and start to set date.
1. Press or key to set time, hold the key to change faster.
4. Press or key to set the Month, Day or Year.
6. Press key to save and exit.
2. Press or key to select hour / minute digits.
5. Press or key to select Month, Day or Year digits.
If it is desired to set time/date later, press MENU key to exit.
Otherwise; follow steps below to set time and date.
Getting Started
Installing the Back-up Batteries
1. Press down the battery base cover and slide it out to remove.
2. Insert batteries in correct polarity shown in the compartment.
3. Place the battery cover back and slide it in to click into place.
The radio requires four (4) AA size alkaline batteries (such as
Energizer or DuraCell Brand) for back-up power in case A/C
power fails or temporarily disconnected.
1. icon on display indicates low battery.
2. It is recommended to power up the radio with the
supplied A/C adapter to prevent battery drain.
3. Do not leave weak or dead batteries in the battery
compartment.
For better reception, the radio should be placed nearing a
window facing to the direction of the NWS (National Weather
Service) transmitter. The radio is not weather resistant, care
must be taken.

1.6 Review Alert Message (in Standby Mode)
'NO EVENT MESSAGES'indicates no test / alert
messages received.
- Press key to enter event memory mode.
- Press or key to view alert messages in the memory.

Tips Press LIGHT key to turn the LED on / off if desired.

1.8 Review Watch Channels
Press key in Standby mode to see the watched WX
channel(s). CH stands for Channel.
1.4 Review Stored County Codes (in Standby Mode)
- Press key to view the stored county code / SAME#.
- Press MENU key to exit.
- Press or key to view other stored county codes, if any.

1.5 Review/Edit Event Blocking (in Standby Mode)
1. Press key, then key to enter View/Edit Alerts mode.
2. Follow steps 3 to 8 in section 2.6 to view/edit event message.
Info - Events in Event Message Table 2 are read only, no edit.
- Press LIGHT key to turn the LED light off if desired.
Press LIGHT key again to turn on the LED.
Refer to Section 2.11 Setting Auto Key Lock to set
key lock / unlock.
1.7 Auto Key Lock (in Standby Mode)
Info
When the 'KEY LOCK' is set On in program Menu page P11,
in Standby Mode, keys will be auto-locked after a preset
time delay to prevent accidental key presses. To unlock the
key pad temporarily, press MENU, then STOP key shortly.
1.3 Turn On the Radio
- Press RADIO key to turn on the radio.
Press RADIO key to display the channel frequency
briefly.
Tips
- Press or key to adjust the volume, long press the key
will change the volume continuously.
Pull out and orient the telescopic antenna to have the
best reception.
Note
- Press STOP key to turn off the radio and the radio will be
in Standby mode.
Turn Off the Radio
- To set your local channel, refer to Section 2.2.
If Multiple Channel Watch has been selected (in Section 2.7),
press , , or key to switch the channels.
Section 1 Operation
If the radio is powered by batteries, pressing a key
(except STOP key when turning off the radio) will
illuminate the back light for 10 seconds. In program
menu mode, the back light is always on. Please refer
Section 2.10 to set the back light.
1.2 LCD Back Light
Info
In Standby mode, press and hold MENU key for 2 seconds to
enter program menu. Then, refer Section 2 to set up the radio.

The icon or indicates Alarm 1 or 2.
1.10 Alarm Clocks (in Standby Mode)
Two (2) alarm clocks are available.

Press key to enter the sub-menu. Then, press or key
to select ON/OFF, or key to set snooze time or alarm
volume.
Press ALM 1 or ALM 2 key to set alarm 1 or 2. If the alarm
time, day, snooze time and alarm volume are set as desired,
press MENU key to activate the alarm clock; or press key
to edit. Press , , or key to set alarm time.
Each digit in the first line is for sub-menu entry.
The digits 1 to 7 denote Sunday to Saturday respectively;
Z sign denote Snooze time;
sign denote BUZZ alarm.
1.9 Nap Timer (in Standby Mode)
Note Nap cycle will be terminated upon alert receiving with
audible response.
- Press and hold SNOOZE key for 2 seconds to enter Nap mode.
- Press or key to set nap time, 1 minute up to 2 hours.
- Press key to save.
- Press or key to set snooze time.
When nap time is up, Buzz alarm starts out loud gradually.
Press STOP or MENU key to stop the alarm or press SNOOZE
key start snooze cycle.
- Press key to confirm and start nap cycle with a beep tone
and timer count down shown on the display.
Note
a). individual day alarm On or OFF.
b). Zsign, SNOOZE time in minutes.
c). sign, alarm volume.
At least one alarm day has to be set before setting
snooze time, alarm volume or activating alarm clock.
Press or key to select the sub-menu and you will see:

- If uninterrupted, the alarm will stop in 1 hour.
Press ALM 1 or ALM 2 key once to deactivate the alarm clock.
1.11 De-activat Alarms
As all set, press MENU key to exit and activate the alarm clock.
In the second line display: indicates clock alarm
has been set for the week day above.

When the time is up, the radio will alarm out loud gradually
to the preset alarm volume (gradual wake).
- Press STOP or MENU key to stop alarm completely.
- Press SNOOZE key to stop alarm and start snooze cycle
with snooze timer count down shown on the display.

1.12 Turn Off the Radio
Info
- Long press STOP key for 2 seconds to turn off the radio
and the LCD displays RADIO OFF, no alert receiving.
- To turn on the radio, long press MENU key for 2 seconds
or power-up the radio with A/C adapter. Then, the radio
will be in alert standby mode.
When the radio is powered by back-up batteries, the
radio can be turned off not
used temporarily (a day or two). When the radio is
turned off, no alerts will be received but clock alarm
and nap timer can still be functioning. If the radio is
not going to use for longer time, remove the batteries.

the radio will display: RE-CHECK SET UP. Please
check the channel / county
settings.

1.13 Receiving Alert Message
Upon receiving alert, will generate siren (if events
unblocked) with display the event message and

Effective Time, unlock keypad if locked previously. The event
message, the receiving channel and current date / time will be
saved into the event memory. The oldest message will be
cleared if the memory is full. The alarm out socket functions
per Alert Option Table in Section 2.3. Press any key to stop
siren. As siren stops, the number of active event, Effective
Time, real time clock and receiving channel will be displayed
alternatively.

socket with center positive polarity.
Test messages (e.g. Required Weekly Test) are used to
test if the radio can properly respond to alerts. Set your
local channel and county code (SAME#) correctly
(refer to Section2.2) to confirm the Weekly Test.
Although est messages are initially set to blocked
(defeat siren), the test message is still displayed on the
LCD and saved to the event memory historically for
review. T

To stop event message scrolling on the LCD screen,
press and hold the STOP key and the LED light will be
turned off. Release the key to resume.

2.1 Setting Date / Time (Menu Page P1)
The date / time must be set correctly as they will be
the time reference for the receiving alert message
saved into the event memory.
Note
1. Long press MENU key for 2 seconds to enter program mode.
2. Press key to enter menu page P1.
5. Press key to save time and start to set date.
3. Press or key to set time, hold the key to change faster.
6. Press or key to set the Month, Day or Year.
8. Press key to save and exit.
4. Press or key to select hour / minute digits.
7. Press or key to select Month, Day or Year digits.
Press and hold the MENU key for 2 seconds to enter
Program Mode. The LCD icons next to the MENU key
and key will be helpful in programming the radio.

Three county options are available:
1. Press or key to select county option.
3. Press or key to browse the stored county codes or
go to the empty memory to add county code.

from the receiving channel, regardless of the areas.
- with MULTIPLE COUNTY option, the radio will only
respond the alerts for the counties of your interest.
2. Press key. If ALL COUNTY option is selected, it will
exit to the main menu. If SINGLE COUNTY option is
selected, then, go through steps 5(c) to (g) below.
If there is no county codes stored, 'ALL COUNTY'
option will be set automatically.
Note
(h). Repeat from step 3 for the next county edit, if any.
(a). To add county code, follow steps in section 2.2.1.

(b).To delete county code, press key, then key.
(i). Press MENU key to exit.
- with SINGLE COUNTY option, the county code is stored in
the first memory location, COUNTY 01. The radio will
respond alerts related to the location in County 01.
To delete county code at SINGLE COUNTY option,
change the option to MULTIPLE COUNTY to delete there.

2.2 Setting Channel / County (Menu Page P2)
1. Long press MENU key for 2 seconds to enter program mode.
2. Press key to menu page P2.
4. Press key to set Home channel for your area.
Press or key to adjust voice volume.
Tips
5. Press key to save.
3. Press key and the radio is turned on with channel shown.

4. (a). Press MENU key to exit if no other county codes entry.

2.2.1 Add County Code
Before setting Channel / County, please call NWS toll free No.:
1-888-NWS-SAME (1-888-697-7263) or visit NWS web site:
https://www.weather.gov/nwr/counties to obtain:
1. NOAA Station Frequency for your home area, or Channel No.
2. SAME# for your home county, or County Code
In the web site, select the state, then search your county and jot
down the SAME# (County Code) and Frequency, as your
Home Channel for your area.
Note Both Channel and County Code are inter-related for
alert receiving. Either one of them set incorrectly will
result in no alert response and finally display
RE-CHECK SET UP on the LCD after every 10 days.

- Press or key to set the timer in minutes, up to 1 hour.

2.4 Setting Siren Volume (Menu Page P4)
1. Long press MENU key for 2 seconds to enter program mode.
The siren volume can be set to your desired loudness.
Siren mute option is also available for the events in
Event Message Table 1.

4. Press or key to set siren volume. During siren, the
ALARM OUT socket is activated for testing the external
device if connected.
5. Press key to save and exit.
1. Long press MENU key for 2 seconds to enter program mode.

Voice volume is used when the radio broadcasts voice
message after siren tone. Voice volume can be set to
your desired loudness for VOICE EOM or VOICE Timer.
