General Information
The GSM Gateway unit communicates efficiently with up to a maximum of
fifty Vthree pre-payment units, to accurately report back to Energy Billing on
the consumption of energy in each residential property.
The Vthree unit uses the ‘Zig Bee’ type protocol, to form a local ‘mesh-
network’ whereby all units talk together to establish connections back to the
GSM Gateway which provides the two-way communication with the service
provider Energy Billing. The GSM Gateways are GSM (Global system
for mobile) based; eliminating the need for the installation of additional
broadband telephone lines and further simplifying the installation process.
Two-way communication allows for data to be read back from the properties;
such as periodic meter reading for the preparation of periodic statements
or for claiming of Government subsidies and allowances. Following a
change of occupancy, the Vthree unit can be remotely reset to the scheme’s
opening settings (emergency credit level, any initial credit amounts etc.) thus
reducing visits to the property to reset the units.

Typical arrangement for the ‘Zig Bee’ protocol which forms a local ‘mesh-network’
whereby all Vthree units talk together to establish connections with a GSM Gateway
which then provides the two-way communication with the service provider, Energy
Billing.
Ideally the GSM Gateway would be positioned in the centre of the network to keep
the ‘pathways’ to a minimum distance.
