DVR Pre-Installation
T e DVR is ig ly advanced surveillance equipment t at s ould be installed wit care. Please take into
consideration t e following precautionary steps before installation of t e DVR.
1. Keep all liquids away from t e DVR.
2. Install t e DVR in a well-ventilated and dust-free area.
3. Ensure environmental conditions meet factory specifications.
4. Install a manufacturer recommended HDD.
DVR Installation
During t e installation of t e DVR:
1. Use brackets for rack mounting.
2. Ensure t ere is ample room for audio and video cables.
3. W en installing cables, ensure t at t e bend radius of t e cables are no less t an five times t an its diameter.
4. Allow at least 2cm (≈0.75-inc ) of space between racks mounted devices.
. Ensure t e DVR is grounded.
6. Environmental temperature s ould be wit in t e range of -10 ºC ~ 55 ºC, 14ºF ~ 131ºF.
7. Environmental umidity s ould be wit in t e range of 10% ~ 90%.
Hard Disk Installation
Before you start:
Before installing a ard disk drive (HDD), please make sure t e power is disconnected from t e DVR. A factory
recommended HDD s ould be used for t is installation.
Tools Required: Screwdriver.
T e following section as described t e HDD installation of DS-7100HVI/HWI-SL DVR as t e example.
To install a HDD on your DVR:
1. Remove t e cover from t e DVR by unfastening t e screws on t e back and side.
2. Install t e HDD in t e HDD rack using t e provided screws. Fasten t e screws on t e bottom to fix t e HDD.
3. Connect t e HDD to t e mot erboard of t e DVR wit t e included data cable, and connect t e power cable to
t e HDD.

4. Re-install t e cover of t e DVR and fasten screws.

Menu Operation
Menu Structure
T e menu structure is s own as below:
T e EVD-Lxx/xxxA1-960 series DVR provides no PTZ feature.
Startup and Shutdown
Proper startup and s utdown procedures are crucial to expanding t e life of t e DVR.
Before you start:
C eck t at t e voltage of t e extra power supply is t e same wit t e device’s requirement, and t e ground
connection is working properly.
Starting up the device:
Steps:
C eck t e power supply is plugged into an electrical outlet. It is HIGHLY recommended t at an Uninterruptible
Power Supply (UPS) be used in conjunction wit t e device.
For t e EVD-Lxx/xxxA1-960 series DVR, insert t e power supply plug into t e power connector on t e rear panel
and t e device will start up. T e Power indicator LED s ould turn red indicating t at t e device begins to start up.
Shutting down the device:

1. Enter t e S utdown menu.

3. Click t e Shutdown button.
4. Click t e Yes button.
. Disconnect t e power supply of t e device.
Using the Setup Wizard
T e Setup Wizard can walk you t roug some important settings of t e device. By default, t e Setup Wizard starts
once t e device as loaded.
Operating t e Setup Wizard:
1. Select t e system resolution from t e dropdown menu. T e default resolution is 1280×1024/60Hz.
Click Apply to save t e resolution settings.
2. C eck t e c eckbox to enable Setup Wizard w en device starts. Click Next to continue t e setup wizard.
Follow t e guide of t e Setup Wizard to configure t e system resolution, password modification, system
date/time, network settings, HDD management, record settings, etc.
Live View
Some icons are provided on screen in Live View mode to indicate different camera status. T ese icons include:
Live View Icons
In t e live view mode, t ere are icons at t e rig t top of t e screen for eac c annel, s owing t e status of t e
record and alarm in t e c annel, so t at you can find problems as soon as possible.
Alarm (video loss, tampering or motion detection alarm).
Record (manual record, sc edule record or motion detection record)

Using the Mouse in Live View
In t e live view mode, use t e mouse to rig t-click on t e window to access t e following menu:

Quick Set Set t e video output mode to Standard, Brig t, Gentle or Vivid.
All-day Playback Play back t e video of t e selected c annel.
Aux Monitor Switc to t e auxiliary output mode and t e operation for t e main output is disabled.
If you enter Aux monitor mode and t e Aux monitor is not connected, t e mouse
operation is disabled.
Main/Aux Output Switching
W en t e VGA output is configured as t e main output, you can perform t e following operation to switc to
CVBS output as t e main output.
Steps:
1. In t e live view mode, use t e mouse w eel to double-click on t e VGA output screen, and t e following
message box pops up:
2. Use t e mouse w eel to double-click on t e screen again to switc to t e Aux output, or click Cancel to

cancel t e operation.
3. Select t e Menu Output Mode to Main CVBS from t e rig t-click menu on t e CVBS output screen.
4. On t e pop-up message box, click Yes to restart t e device to enable t e CVBS output as t e main output.
You can select t e Menu Output Mode under Menu > Configuration > More Settings to Auto or VGA and
t en restart t e device to switc t e main output back to VGA output.
Record
You can use t e rig t-click menu in live view mode to configure recording for all c annels.
1. In t e live view mode, use t e mouse to rig t-click on t e window to access t e following menu:
2. Click t e Start Recording submenu and select t e recording mode to Normal Record or Motion Detection
Record.
3. In t e pop-up message box, click Yes to finis t e quick recording settings for all c annels.
T e full-screen motion detection triggered recording is configured by default in t is mode.
Playback
Play back t e record files of a specific c annel in t e live view menu.
Instant playback by channel
C oose a c annel under live view using t e mouse and click t e button in t e s ortcut operation menu.
Only record files recorded during t e past five minutes on t is c annel will be played back.

All-day playback by channel
1. Enter t e All-day Playback menu.
Rig t-click a c annel in live view mode and select All-day Playback from t e menu.
Under multi-screen live view, record files of t e selected c annel will be played back.
2. Playback management.
T e toolbar in t e bottom part of Playback interface can be used to control playing process.
T e c annel and time selection menu will display by moving t e mouse to t e rig t of t e playback
interface.
Tick t e c annel or c annels if you want to switc playback to anot er c annel or execute simultaneous
playback of multiple c annels.

Backup
Recorded files can be backed up to various devices, suc as USB flas drives, USB HDDs or a DVD writer.
To export recorded files:
1. Click Menu>Export to enter Video Export interface.
C oose t e c annel (s) you want to back up and click t e Quick Export button.
2. Enter Export interface, c oose backup device and click Export button to start exporting.
3. C eck backup result.
C oose t e record file in Export interface and click t e button to c eck it.
