INTRODUCTION
The EX500 exchange processor is a Crisis Alert Central Exchange. One EX500 with one, two or
three LC500 subscriber cards are mounted in the irst RK500 card rack or a capacity o 24 intercom
stations. By adding a RK501 card rack and additional LC500 subscriber cards the capacity can be
increased rom 24 to 56 intercom stations.
The EX500 board includes a two wire data network (RS485) or connection o external annunciators
(DAD104 or DS16), log-printer inter ace (DNA100), PC inter ace (DNA100) video switcher inter ace
(DNA200). This data network has capacity o eight devices. All devices are connected in parallel on
the data pair (star or loop). Each device must be given a di erent network address (dip switch
programming). The EX500 sets its address on SW2, the annunciator has the switches (S1) located on
the back, the DNA100 has the switches (SW2) located on the ront panel. A typical system may use
address:
08 or the EX500
09 or the irst annunciator
0A or the second annunciator
0D or the DNA200
0E or the DNA100 with a log-printer
0F or the DNA100 at the PC
(see the Network manual or setting network address).
The number o call digits are set by SW3 on the EX500 card and the Battery RAM must be reset a ter
changing number o call digits. All other programming is done rom the PC connected to the DNA100.
The PC can run Terminal or Windows 98, Hyperterminal or Windows XP, Realterm or Windows
7/8 or any other terminal emulation so tware with VT100.
When the PC is irst connected to the DNA100 the Status Display screen will be displayed. Press CTR
X on the PC to go to the main menu and select 6 - COMMUNICATIONS LINK.
You will now be asked or a network address. Enter 08 to program the EX500 or 0D to program the
DNA200. The network will now set up a transparent link to the device that you want to program. See
the appropriate device manual or programming details. Use the SNA command to associate an
intercom station with a annunciator, printer or video monitor. Programming commands may be put in a
text ile in the PC and then uploaded to do the programming ( > is the pace character).

FEATURE DESCRIPTION
HANDSET / LOUDSPEAKING
When two intercom stations are connected, either party may speak to the other hands ree without
touching any buttons.
COFIDENTIAL /SOFTSPEAKING
At any time during the call, either one or both parties may pick up their station AA918 and
use it as a handset for a confidential conversation. When both parties are in handset mode,
the system operates in open duplex mode and both parties may talk and listen at the same
time.
SIMPLEX
The T-button may be used to control the speech direction (push to talk release to listen). This is
use ul when one o the intercom stations are in a noisy area. Either party may use this unction. I both
stations are pushing the T-button the control is given to the station that pushed T last. Either party may
revert to hands ree mode by tapping the T-button. Any call number may be programmed with the
privilege “simplex always” . When a call is placed rom or to a station with the “simplex always”
privilege, the initiator will be in listen mode and the T-button must be used to change the speech
direction.
MICROPHONE CUTOFF
To temporary mute the microphone during conversation, the mute button may be pressed down.
DIRECT DIALING
It is possible to program keys 0 to 9 o each intercom station’s keypad to speed dial requently
called numbers. When a programmed key is pressed, a dialtone is heard as normal. I a second key is
pressed within 1.2 seconds (programmable subscriber timer) then a normal dial sequence is taken.
DIRECT ACCESS
It is possible to program one call number or each intercom station to be activated by short DC-
shi t (<1 sec). This type o calling is used with door stations and elevator stations that do not have a
tone dialer.

ALARM
Long DC shift (1sec<) will send ALARM to the call number programmed for direct access.
LINE SUPER ISION
Line Supervision is activated with privilege #10. The audio lines from the intercom is
monitored for shorts, open, powerfail and will send FAULT to the call number programmed
for Direct Access.
TWO BUTTON DC SHIFT SUB-STATION
Direct Access and Direct Dial #1 are programmed to activate this feature.
Short DC shift(<1sec) will send CALL to the call number for Direct Dial #1.
Long DC shift (1sec>) will send ALARM to to the call number programmed for Direct Access.
Zero olt on the audio line will send FAULT to the call number programmed for Direct
Access.
Device Type = sub
Program in Que = none
REMOTE CONTROL
DTMF tones may be sent rom one intercom station to the other or remote control. The keypad on
the station sends standard telephone dialing tones (CCITT). This is mainly used or electric door-lock
release and or dialing out to the public telephone network (PTT). The microphone mute unction must
be activated while pushing a number key to disable con erence add-on . When the B-subscriber
(receiver o the call) is programmed with the privilege “DTMF Device” then the number keys may be
activated without pushing the microphone mute key.
CAMP ON BUSY EXTENSION
The caller may camp-on to a busy extension or 20 seconds (programmable subscriber timer),
a ter which the call will be automatically canceled. I the called party becomes ree within this time, the
connection will be established with warning tone to both parties.
PRI ACY
The stations privacy switch controls the privacy status. When the B-subscriber is in privacy both
stations gets the ringing tone. The B-subscriber may accept the call by pressing the 0-button within 15
seconds (programmable subscriber timer). This operation is valid when the B-subscriber is not using
personal queue.
Page9

RM5000EX Operations Manual September 2018
PRIORITY
When a station is programmed with the privilege “Priority” it may connect to a busy or privacy
station by dialing “0” . This is only possible i the busy station does not have Priority privilege
PERSONAL QUEUE
Each intercom station has a Personal Queue. This queue is activated with privilege “Personal
Queue”. All received calls are then put in the personal que and the intercom station will ring (2 second
on, 3 second o ) until the call is answered by pressing the 0-key. When the call is canceled (X) the
next call in queue starts ringing a ter 2 seconds (programmable subscriber timer). With the privilege
“Automatic Answer” the call is automatically connected without pushing the 0-key.
Calls are inserted to the personal queue on a irst in irst out within each priority level (1-9). The
priority level is the Call Priority o the calling station (level 1 is highest priority). The calling station
may be connected to Ringing Tone, Program Channel or silence when in que. The personal queue may
be displayed and answered on a DAD104 or DS16.
TRANSFER
Call Trans er is used to distribute incoming calls to additional intercom station. Call trans er is
using the personal que. Each subscriber may be programmed with 7 trans er numbers with delays.
When a call is place to a intercom station with “personal queue” the call will be inserted in the
personal que o the called station. When the trans er 1 delay expires the call will be placed in the
personal que o the trans er 1 intercom station. The trans er 2 delay is then activated and when it
expires the call is inserted in the personal que o the trans er 2 intercom station. This sequence is then
repeated or trans ers 3-7 i programmed. The incoming call is now in the personal queue o multiple
intercom stations and when one o them answer the call it is removed rom all the personal queues. The
trans er delay is 0 - 9 minutes or in inite. I a trans er station is in privacy then the delay to that station
is set to 0 and the call will trans er instantly (used or night trans er). Personal Queue is always used
when calls trans er to another intercom station independent o the “personal queue” privilege.

PAGING
Allows or one way paging rom one station to other stations in the exchange and will override
calls in progress (they will reconnect when the Page is completed). There are 15 paging groups in the
system. Each group contains the call numbers that are included in the page (group call) or excluded
rom the page (all call). The type o group is determined by the group privilege A. I a group has the A
privilege it is an all call group, i not then it is a group call group. The intercom dialing the paging
group must have the proper privilege (all call access and/or group call access). The paging is
terminated by dialing X or 8 (meet me). One o the stations can then dial 90 to call back to the Paging
initiator. The call back is active until one station dials 90 or a new call back is activated rom another
All Call or Group Call. The duration o the page is limited to 60 seconds (programmable subscriber
timers). Only one Group Call can be active at a time. Stations calling Group Page when it is in use may
camp on until it is ree.
Default:
Access numbers are 70-79 for groups 0-9.
Group 0 is all call
Groups 1-15 are group calls
PRI ILEGES FOR PAGING GROUPS
A privilege = All Call group.
T privilege = Talk button must be pushed to activate microphone.
G privilege = Global group extends paging to other exchanges.
C privilege = Group con erence
PROGRAM DISTRIBUTION
The system has one program channel or distribution o music or other programs source.
The access code is 98. The connection to program distribution does not e ect normal intercom
operations. When a call is initiated or received, the music is put on hold until the call is completed and
then it is automatically reconnected.
Page11

TWO WAY RADIO
The RM5000EX system may be connected to a radio base station or communication on a closed
two-way radio network. An inter ace unit (IF935) is required and is given an ordinary subscriber
number. I the radio system is simplex PTT then the subscriber number should be programmed with
privilege “Simplex Always” The radio receive signal may be connected to the program distribution
channel or monitoring.
TELEPHONE NETWORK
An inter ace (IF934P) can be supplied to operate between a telephone network and the
RM5000EX. The inter ace is used to make calls rom any intercom station to the telephone network
and to make a call rom an outside telephone to any intercom station.
The inter ace may be used as a speed dialer to a telephone number used or answering intercom calls
rom elevator intercoms in a night trans er mode o operation. The device type o the inter ace is set to
PBX, and the speed dial number is programmed rom the DNA100. A delay may be entered as P1 or
one second delay to P9 or 9 second delay. Example: P29P31234567 will delay 2 seconds (waiting or
dial tone), dial 9, delay 3 seconds, then dial 1234567. When a call enters the personal que o the
inter ace it will speed dial the remote telephone number, connect the station in que to the telephone line
and then wait or disconnect rom the remote telephone be ore releasing the connection between the
inter ace and the intercom station. A ter 2 seconds (programmable subscriber timer) the next call in
personal que will repeat the process.
I the inter ace does not have the privilege “Personal Queue” then calls made to the inter ace will not
activate the dialer and the phone number must be manually dialed. I trans ers are activated rom other
stations (lobby master) , then theses calls are automatically placed in the personal que o the inter ace
and will use the speed dialer out on the telephone line. This way a motor room master may use the
inter ace or manually dialed calls, while elevator intercoms that dial the lobby master will be
trans erred to the personal que o the inter ace and use the speed dialer. The lobby master may have an
in inite trans er delay during the day when all calls are answered by the lobby master. At night the
lobby master is placed in privacy and all calls are trans erred to the telephone inter ace.
SECTORING
16 sectors are available for restricting calls.
Each intercom is a member of one sector (default is sector 0).
Each sector can be programmed to allow calls to other sectors.
Default: intercoms that are members of a sector can only call intercoms in the same sector.
