FEATURES OF YOUR INFINITY 20
n The Infinity 20 is one of the most advanced water heaters available. It supplies hot
water at the temperatures selected on either of the two electronic Remote Controls
supplied as standard with the appliance.
w The Master Control (larger control) can be fitted conveniently close to the shower
or bath area, and is used to override the Sub Control (smaller control) which is
normally fitted in the kitchen or other convenient area.
n The Transfer button on the Master Control enables you to select and lock the
preferred temperature for shower or bath water. When locked in, this selected
temperature cannot be overridden by the Sub Control.
n The Sub Control is used to select temperatures for kitchen, laundry etc.
n Temperatures selected at both Controls are retained in the system memory.
n The Infinity 20 never runs out. While the electricity, gas and water supplies are
connected, hot water is available for as long as the hot water tap is open.
n The burner lights automatically when the hot water tap is opened, and goes out
when the tap is closed.
n AGA’s 5 Star Energy Rating makes the Infinity 20 one of the most efficient water
heaters available.
n The Infinity 20 is an externally mounted, power flued appliance. It is very compact,
saving both floor and wall space.
n Operating noise levels are very low.
H Error codes are displayed on the Remote Controls, assisting with service.
H Other features include automatic frost protection and over heat protection.
This Infinity 20 must be installed correctly by an authorised person. The installation
of gas, water and electricity must conform to local regulations.
The installation must also comply with the instructions supplied by Rinnai.

PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
To obtain the best performance out of your Infinity 20 it is important to use the Remote
Controls correctly.
Used as intended, the Infinity 20 will supply hot water at the temperature selected,
even when the water flow is varied, or when more than one tap is used.
1 REMOTE CONTROLS ~~~-1
The purpose of the Remote Controls is to enable you to have complete control over
your Infinity 20 from inside your house.
Two Remote Controls are supplied with the Infinity 20. The Master Control has a
Transfer button. This Control has the ability to override theSubControl and lock in the
water temperature selection desirable for shower and bathroom areas. It is suggested
that theMasterControl with theTransfer button beconvenientlyplaced nearthe shower,
bathroom area or other location where priority control of water temperature is required.
Normally, the Sub Control, without theTransfer button, would be located in the kitchen
or other convenient area, such as the laundry.
All necessary adjustments to the operation of your Infinity 20 can be made with either of
the two Remote Controls.
A different temperature can be stored in the system memory of each Control.
Various water temperatures can be selected in 16 steps from 35W to 75%. The
temperatures are 35-37-38-39-40-41-42-43-44-45-46-48-50-55-60-75OC.
Suggested temperatures are Shower 42OC
Kitchen 50°C.
These temperatures are suggested starting points for selection. You may find higher or
lower temperatures are more comfortable. Maintaining lower temperatures helps to
save energy

TURNING THE INFINITY 20 ON
n TO TURN YOUR INFINITY 20 ON.
Simply press the ION/OFFI button
on either Control.
The ON indicator will glow on the
Control which you have operated.
This indicates that the Infinity 20 is
ready to supply hot water as soon
as a tap is opened.
To operate the Infinity 20 simply
turn any hot water tap on. This
will automatically light the burner
providing hot water at the
temperature displayed on the
Digital Monitor.
After installation, and when the
loN/OFFI button is first pushed,
42% will be displayed on the Digital
Monitor.
This is a safety feature. Thus even
if the shower is used without first
adjusting the temperature the hot
water will be at a safe temperature.

TRANSFERRING PRIORITY OF
TEMPERATURE SELECTION
n To Transfer priority of water
temperature selection to the
Master Control, simply press the
ITRANSFER 1button on the
Master Control.
The ON indicator on the Master
Control will glow to indicate that
priority of water temperature
selection has been transferred
to the Master Control.
After having transferred the
priority of water temperature
selection, 42W will be displayed
on the Digital Monitor.

n The water temperature can now be
selected using the Master Control.
Once the desired water
temperature is selected, the
Remote Control will store it in
the system memory until the
temperature is changed or the
mains power supply is turned off.
You can alternate priority of
water temperature selection
between the Master and Sub
Controls, without erasing the
individually stored temperatures
from the system memory.
n To Transfer priority of water
temperature selection back to
the Sub Control, simply press the
1st button again. The
temperature displayed will then
return to the temperature which
was previously selected at the Sub
Control, and the ON indicator will
glow to indicate priority control of
water temperature selection. Master Control

n TO TURN YOUR INFINITY 20 OFF
Simply press the -1 button
on either Remote Control.
This will shut the Infinity 20 down
completely
If hot water taps are opened when
the Infinity 20 is OFF,cold water will
flow from the taps.
Selected temperatures are retained
in the system memory, even when
the Remote Controls have been
turned OFF.
When the Controls are turned ON
again, the previously selected
temperatures will be displayed on
the Digital Monitor.

NOTE:
It is recommended that during long
periods of non-use, the system be
switched off at the Remote Controls.

ERROR MESSAGES
The Infinity 20 has the ability to check its own operation continuously. If a fault occurs
an Error Code will be displayed on the Digital Monitor of the Remote Controls. This
assists with diagnosing the fault, and may enable you to overcome a problem without a
service call.

In all cases, you may be able to clear the Error Code simply by turning the hot water tap
OFF, then ON again. If this does not clear the Error Code, try pushing the [ON/OFF/
button OFF,then ON again. If the Error Code still remains, contact Rinnai or your nearest
service agent and arrange for a service call.

I UNPACKING
H Check for damage, if the Infinity 20 is damaged, contact the supplier or Rinnai.
Do not install a damaged appliance before checking with the supplier or Rinnai.
n Remove Infinity 20 and accessories from carton, and check that all the parts
shown below are included.
n Remote Controls and accessories are packed inside the carton.
Check that the Infinity 20 supplied is correct for the gas type in the area.
Refer to local gas authority for confirmation of gas type if in doubt.
Refer to data plate located on left hand side panel of Infinity 20.

POSITIONING
n The Infinity 20 is an externally mounted, power flued appliance. IT MUST ONLY BE
FllTED OUTSIDE THE BUILDING.
H When determining a suitable position for the1nfinity 20, the length of hot water pipe
runs should be taken into consideration. In principle, the Infinity 20 should be as
close as possible to the most often used taps, or in a central location between taps,
showers etc.
W Minimum mounting height from the ground is 1500mm.
n See diagram on page 21 for position of gas, water and power connections.
n The location of the flue terminal must comply with the clearances shown below.

INSTALLATION - GENERAL
n A 240V (Aust.) or 230V (N.Z.) weather proof earthed power point is required within
1.5m of the Infinity 20.
n The Infinity 20 weighs 17kg, and the wall on which it is to be mounted must be
capable of supporting it and the pipework. Ensure that suitable fixing screws or
bolts are used to secure the Infinity 20 to the wall. Bracket and fixing hole locations
are shown on page 21.
The top bracket has a keyhole slot so that the Infinity 20 can be positioned by
hanging it on one screw, then the other screws can be secured.
After determining the most suitable position, fix the Infinity 20 to the wall.
n Connect hot and cold water pipes. An approved gate valve MUST BE FITTED to the
cold water inlet. In areas where the water pressure is over 1000 kPa, a pressure
limiting valve must also be fitted.
Water connections are R/2/1 5. Locations are shown on page 21.
H Connect the gas. CHECK PIPE SIZING REQUIREMENT USING AN APPROVED PIPE
SIZING CHART (eg: charts in AG601 or DZ5261).
The Infinity 20 uses 1GOMJ/h of gas. IF THE GAS PIPE SIZE IS INSUFFICIENT, THE
CUSTOMER WILL NOT GET THE FULL PERFORMANCE BENEFIT. An approved
isolation valve MUST BE FITTED to the gas inlet. Connection size is
R%/20. This is not an indication of the size of pipe required.
n REMOTE CONTROLS
The Remote Controls enable the customer to control the functions of their Infinity
20 from inside the house. Before fitting the Remote Controls determine the most
convenient positions for installation where the customer will benefit the most.
The MC-31 -A Sub Control is intended to befitted in the kitchen or other convenient
area where the majority of hot water is being used.
The BC31-A Master Control is intended to be fitted conveniently close to the
shower, in the bathroom, en-suite or other area where the customer requires
priority over water temperature selection.
The BC-31 -A Master Control enables the person in the shower/bath area to lock in
the selected water temperature, so that the temperature cannot be changed from
the MC-31 -A Sub Control.

REMOTE CONTROLS - GENERAL
n When deciding on the best positions for the Remote Controls, the following points
should be taken into consideration.
1. Fit the Controls out of reach of children. (Suggested height from floor -
1500mm).
2. Avoid positions where the Remote Control will become hot (eg: over hotplates,
near ovens or heaters).
3. If possible, avoid direct sunlight (The Digital Monitor is difficult to read in direct
sunlight).
4. Avoid areas where Remote Control will be affected by oil splashing or cooking.
5. The BC-31-A Master Control is water resistant, however it should not be
positioned where it may be splashed directly (ie: shower recess).
6. Refer to AS3000 1986 Section 6.3. for location requirements in shower and
bath areas.
7. The cables to the Remote Controls only carry 12vDC (extra low voltage).
8. Cables should run back to the Infinity 20 from both RemoteControls, or cables
should run between the Controls then back to the Infinity 20.

Cables are simply piggy-backed at either the Infinity 20 or Remote Control. Polarity
is not important when connecting Controls. Either colour wire can be connected to
either terminal at both the Infinity 20 and Control terminals. If more cable is needed
any cable with a similar specification to the cable supplied with the Infinity 20 can
be used. Maximum length is 50m.

l Determine the most suitable
position for the Control.
0 Fix the wall bracket to the wall
as shown using the screws and
plugs supplied, or a suitable
alternative (fig 1).
0 The Remote Control cable is to
connect the Remote Controls to the
Infinity 20. Fixing lugs have been
provided on the wire, but it can be
cut and connected as required.
0 Make a suitable sized hole
through the wall in the centre
opening of the wall bracket. Run
the cable between the Control and
the Infinity 20, or refer to page 14,
No. 8.
0 Connect the cable to the Control
as shown (fig 2).
0 Attach the Control to the bracket
as shown, secure with the single
screw at the top (fig 3).
0 The cable clamp and screws are
provided to secure the cable to the
Remote Control if the cable cannot
be run in the wall cavity. In this
case, the plastic “Knockout” should
be removed from the top or bottom
of the Control (fig 4).

0 Determine the most suitable
position for the Control.
0 Make 3 holes in the wall, as
shown, one for the cable and two
for the securing screws. Make sure
holes are level. Fit wall plugs (fig 1).
0 Run the cable provided between
the Control and the Infinity 20, or
refer to page 14, No. 8.
If you haven’t already done so, cut
the lugs off the cotrnecting wire.
0 Remove the faceplate from the
Remote Control using a screwdriver
(fig 2).
0 Using the BC-31-A Control
adaptor and the connectors
provided, connect the Remote
Control to the cable (fig 3).
0 Fix the Control to the wall, and
replace the faceplate (fig 4).

Open any hot water tap fully.

could be various reasons eg. warm
incoming water, low water flow, gas
pipes too small.
Water flow will need to be at least 9
litres/min if incoming water temp. is
15%.
0 If it is established that the gas
pressure needs adjusting, follow
the instructions EXACTLY according
to the information provided in a
pouch, at rear of front panel.
IF IN DOUBT, CONTACT RINNAI.
0 Turn hot water off. Turn power
off. Remove pressure gauge and
replace test point screw.
0 Replace front cover (4 stews).
0 Turn power on. Turn Infinity 20
ON at either Remote Control.
0 Check operation of appliance by
ensuring that the Remote Controls
are functioning correctly.
0 Explain the operation of the
Infinity 20 to the customer. Make
sure the customer understands the
instructions, in particular the
instructions for the Remote Controls.
FAULT/FAILURE PROCEDURE
If you are unable to get the Infinity
20 to operate correctly, contact
Rinnai, or your local agent.
