Charging Technology Description
Rapid Impulse Phase is a new technology for battery charging. It represents a small
revolution in this field, because the results in practice are fantastic. With this technology,
very fast and very precise charging is possible, because only the electrochemical state
of the battery "dictates" how to charge and what current is used for charging, specific to
and most appropriate for, each battery. Charging with high current is accomplished only
in phases where cells can accept high energy, without warming up or release of gas.
When charging with this technology there is no release of gas from electrolyte, warming
up or sulfation. These processes disintegrates cells of lead-acid batteries, so
extraordinary prolongation of battery life and shortening of charging time is achieved.
Theoretically lead-acid batteries can be charged with 2.5 times higher current than its
default current. This means that for example a 100Ah battery can be charged in less
than half of hour, if we can use a current source of 250A. If the starter battery is empty,
it is possible to start the engine after approximately 5 minutes.
Rapid Impulse Phase charging technology works as a mediator between battery
chemistry and signals that instruct every charge. Each battery is "treated" individually.

How to operate the AP-3000 battery charger
Located at the rear of the AP-3000 charger is the 230VAC connector and the main on/off
switch. Insert the plug into the this socket and then plug into a mains 230VAC outlet. Turn
on main on/off switch. On the front of the AP-3000 are three LEDs, Red, Yellow and
Green. The charger will emit a short ‘beep’ and all three LEDs will blink. The display will
show captions. The AP-3000 is now ready for operation. Press the Red START/STOP
button and 3 x short ‘beeps’ will be emitted. The Yellow LED starts to blink and the display
shows the current and voltage values. The battery is now being charged. The battery is
fully charged when the Green LED turns on and the display shows "Float" and the charge
value of 100% is displayed. The battery can be used immediately. (on initial start up, If the
Yellow LED does not illuminate, then the battery voltage is too low (battery is discharged
to level where the automatic charging will not initiate. (check the the display to see the
voltage and current).

Charging with continuous current U-I
For special purposes where a stable voltage and current are required, the AP-3000 also
provides this function. The charging current is continuous, it can be chosen from ‘Battery
Type’ menu heading by selecting ‘UI’. In the sub-menu choose ‘UoIo Menu’, which
appears automatically. Now you can set the desired voltage and current, and confirm with
"OK". The system automatically enters the "Status menu" and on the upper right hand
corner of the screen we see the inscription ‘UI’.
There are technical constraints of the AP-3000, for example, it is not possible to set a
voltage of 62V and current 50A at the same time. (This example relates to the AP-3000
48V battery charger).

** Mains Voltage Too Low **
In the case of the mains voltage being too low, (considered to be all voltages below 210V
AC), the charging current is automatically reduced by up to 35% of the nominal value. This
occurs down to a voltage of 90V AC. The device can therefore also be used in
environments where mains voltage fluctuates significantly. Current from the mains will
never exceed 16A. The charger is automatically protected against damage, as too is the
mains supply. The the mains fuse is 16A. Charge current is reduced in steps, as shown in
the table below. Mains voltage is displayed in the status menu, bottom left. If the charger is
in standby and is not charging, the display shows the mains voltage with a considerable
error. During charging, the measurement error of mains voltage is minimum.

Start / Stop Button (Button MENU)
The Start / stop button can be used to start charging when the battery and charger are
already connected. In the menu, the button is activated by selecting ‘enable’. Before
disconnecting the battery from the charger and after charging has been completed, press
the button again. If prefered this button can be deactivated by selecting ‘disable’ in the
menu, in this case the charging will begin immediately when the battery and charger are
connected.
Limiting charging current (Current limit MENU)
In circumstances where the electrical installation does not allow or cannot be used for
such a large consumption of energy from the mains supply network (example: fuse
limited), the charging current in this case can be reduced to 20% of nominal. Charging
current is reduced in steps of 10%. In the case of setting the charging current to 20% of
the power consumption of the mains network of more than 650W.
Choosing the size of the battery (Battery Size MENU)
The battery size accommodated by the AP-3000 is from 50Ah, there is no maximum
limitation. The ability to accept electrical energy depends on the size of the battery. In
absorption phases, this varies greatly. The charging profile in the phases of absorption,
equalizing and maintaining adjusts to the battery size. To make sure that battery charging
is optimal, you can select the size (capacity) of the battery in the "Batt Size MENU".
