Most models have built-in lights which will require routing the wire or wires to your power source. To assure a clean
installation you may want to wait and drill the routing holes after you are satisfied with the compass alignment.
Specific model installation instructions are as follows:
B-500, B-600, F-600, FB-500, SB-500, SF-500, SF-600, SS-5000 & SS-5000W Flush Mount
Using the mounting template supplied with the compass, make the cutout in your chosen location and mount as
instructed above (Mounting the Compass). Note: If you cannot access the compensation rods from below you need
to allow for easy removal of the compass during compensation. (See Compensation instructions below).
FD-500’s & FD-600’s Flush Mount With Hood
Using the mounting template supplied with the compass, make the cutout in your chosen location and mount the
flange as instructed above (Mounting the Compass). To access the mounting flange remove the hood (lifts off), then
loosen the two outermost screws in the bezel. The 8 or 10 screws nearest the dome should not be loosened. (Fluid
will escape and damage your compass.) This will allow you to separate the compass capsule from the flange.
After mounting the flange, begin compensation (see Compensation instructions below).
Note for all flush mount compasses:
It is important that you use the mounting gasket included with each model. We do not recommend the use of bedding
compound since some brands contain chemicals that could damage the plastic dome
SP-5C/B SS-5100B/P, 515-P/B/EB/EP, 615-P/B/EB/EP, D-515-P/B/EB/EP & D-615-P/B/EB/EP Pedestal Mount
Remove the hood (when supplied) by loosening the thumbscrew at the back of the compass and lifting off. To access
the mounting base remove the black plastic light shade (the two Phillips screws hold it on) then lift off the stainless
steel housing (some compasses have two additional screws at the top of the housing that will need to be removed) .
When mounting to a pedestal you may need to attach the light wire to power before mounting the compass (the light
shade will pass through the housing when complete). Mount the compass unit directly on the pedestal steering unit
with the screws supplied by the pedestal manufacturer. If the compass is being mounted directly to the deck or other
surface, it will be necessary to purchase four non-magnetic fasteners of proper length. After mounting, begin
compensation (see Compensation instructions below). The housing can be put back after compensation and any
alignment adjustments have been made.
Note: The compass itself is held to the base with the capsule-clamping ring. You can separate it from the base by
loosening the clamping screw. You can also loosen the clamping screw to make alignment adjustments. THE
CLAMPING SCREW MUST BE TIGHT BEFORE RE-ATTACHING THE HOUSING!
CAUTION! IMPORTANT NOTICE
When installing any binnacle model Globemaster on pedestal steerers, make certain that the throttle and gear shift
linkages are adjusted properly and do not make contact with the compensator rods on the compass. If contact is
made with either control in full detent, the compensator rod will become bent and the compass thrown out of
adjustment.
515-X/EX, 615-X/EX, D-515-X/EX, D-615-X/EX D-5-S-B/C/X & D-6-S-B/C/X
Remove the hood (when supplied) by loosening the thumbscrew at the back of the compass and lifting off. To access
the mounting holes in the housing/base remove the compass capsule. To remove the capsule from the housing,
loosen the two outermost screws in the bezel. The 8 or 10 screws nearest the dome should not be loosened.
(Fluid will escape and damage your compass.) Mount the housing/base as instructed (see mounting the compass)
and then re-install the compass capsule. After mounting remove the brass inserts and begin compensation (see
Compensation instructions below).
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING YB-500, YB-600, D-5-S-B/C/X, D-6-S-B/C/X, B-453 & B-463
These models are designed to be mounted on STEEL HULL Vessels. Special compensation is required and you will
need to hire a professional compass adjuster.
YB-500 & YB-600 Steel Boat Bracket Mount
Remove the two slotted screws on the YB-500 (there are four on the YB-600) that hold the compass unit to the
bracket. Place the bracket in position on the mounting area in accordance with instructions on the mounting template
included with the compass. Secure the bracket to the deck and attach the compass spheres to the bracket. Reattach
the compass to the bracket and begin compensation (see compensation instructions below).
