Preparation for Use
Locate the indicator post. slide the post onto the stub, on top of the weigher,
and orientate the indicator post to the desired angle. Tighten the thumb screw
on the indicator post against the stub (fig 2).

Operating Instructions
The Ritchie Pig & Lamb Weigher can be easily operated from either side by
one operator.
When the weigher is at the desired location. Go to one side of the weigher,
push to tilt the weigher onto one side, the wheel will lower. Move it further
round toward the exit and lower the weigher. Ensure feet do not become
trapped under the weigher. Now move to the other side of the weigher and
repeat. The weigher will now be resting on the outer cage (fig 5 & 6).
Before admitting an animal to the Weigher, check that the Tru-test indicator is
reading zero (see Tru-test indicator instructions on how to do this).
To admit an animal:
Lift the guillotine gate up and over to allow the animal to enter the weigh cage
(fig 7.) Then lower the gate. Ensure that the gate is fully down.

To weigh an animal:
Use Tru-test indicator to weigh the animal. Complete any other operations
required.
To release an animal:
If the animal is to go straight out. Push / pull the handle (in the middle, fig 8) to
release the locking mechanism (fig 10 & 11), and slide the handle towards the
exit (fig 9 & 12) to open the bi fold gates (fig 13). Allow the animal to exit. Then
slide the handle inwards to close the gates (fig 14). Ensure that the self-
locking mechanism has engaged (fig 10).

If the animal is to be drafted left or right, then the handle on that side should be
pulled
towards the entrance (fig 15) to release the locking pin (fig 16 & 17) and
swung outwards to open the gate (fig 18). Once the animal has exited, swing
the gate closed (against the stops) and release the handle to engage the
locking pin (fig 16).

To move weigher to a different location
Disconnect the Tru-test indicator, and remove from the post. Failure to do this
could damage the indicator.
Ensure all gates are closed and that all locking mechanisms are engaged.
Tilt the weigher to one side and allow the wheel to lower then push the wheel
towards the entry and lower the weigher down so that wheel axle assembly is
against the stop. Repeat on the other side. The weigher is now in the
transportation position (fig 19 & 20).
Lift the transportation handles so that they are horizontal and against the stops
(fig 21). Lift the handles further to lift that end off the ground. It can now be
easily moved around on the wheels. Move the weigher to the new location and
set down. The handles will return to the hanging position. Rotate the wheels,
re-attach the indicator and the weigher is now ready to use again.

If the weigher is to be transported and strapped down. For example on a trailer
or pickup truck. The tie down straps MUST NOT be attached to the inner
frame. Attach to the outer frame as indicated by the ‘strap here only’ stickers
(fig 22). Strapping to the inner frame will put undue stress on the load
cells and may damage them beyond repair.
