Fuse
This apparatus must be prote ted by a 3A fuse (BS1362) in a 13A plug
(BS1363). If another type of plug is used a 5A fuse should be fitted in the plug,
adaptor or distribution board.
IF IN DOUBT - CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
Batteries
Remove the battery over (19) on the rear of the unit by pushing the at hes
in the dire tion of the arrows. Insert four IEC size LR20 batteries (D size) into
the ompartment. Take are to ensure all batteries are inserted with the
orre t polarity as shown inside the battery ompartment. Repla e the
battery over.
Redu ed power, distortion, and a 'stuttering' sound are all signs that the
batteries may need repla ing.
We would recommend for economy, that the SRC955 is used on the
mains whenever possible with battery operation for occasional or
stand-by use only.
Automatic Mains/Battery switchin
To hange from battery to mains operation, simply plug the mains lead into
the mains input so ket (11) on the rear of the unit. The batteries will be
automati ally dis onne ted. It does not matter whi h way round the plug is
inserted but make sure it is fully pushed home. The other end should be
plugged into a domesti supply so ket.
General
Do not allow this unit to be exposed to water, steam or sand. Do not leave
the unit where ex essive heat ould ause damage su h as in a parked ar
where the heat from the sun an build up even though the outside tempera-
ture may not seem too high. It is re ommended that the FM band be used
wherever possible as better results in terms of quality and freedom from
interferen e will usually be obtained than on the MW or LW bands.
Mains supply
The SRC955 will operate from a supply of AC 230-240 volts, 50Hz only.
For your onvenien e this produ t is supplied with a plug whi h is fitted with
a fuse of the appropriate rating. If the plug supplied is not suitable for your
so ket outlet, it should be removed by uns rewing the plug top, the terminal
s rews, and removing the able.
The orre t style of plug to suit your household together with a orre tly rated
fuse should be fitted.
IF IN DOUBT - CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN
IMPORTANT. DO NOT make any onne tion to the larger terminal whi h is
marked with the letter E or by the safety earth symbol or oloured Green
or Green-and-yellow.
The wires in the mains lead are oloured in a ordan e with the following
odes :-
BLUE - NEUTRAL BROWN - LIVE
As these olours may not orrespond with the oloured markings identifying
the terminals in your plug, pro eed as follows:
The wire oloured BLUE must be onne ted to the terminal marked N or
oloured BLACK.
The wire oloured BROWN must be onne ted to the terminal marked L or
oloured RED.

FM stereo operation
Set the fun tion swit h (16) to the 'Radio' position. Set the band sele t swit h
(18) to the 'FM stereo' position. Adjust the volume ontrol (14) until a hissing
sound is heard. The teles opi aerial (12) whi h is only operational on FM,

tuning ontrol (17). If the station being re eived is in 'Stereo' the stereo
indi ator (1) will illuminate. Angle and rotate the teles opi aerial to a position
giving the best re eption. A knu kle joint at the base of the aerial allows this
movement and an angle of 45 degrees will usually be satisfa tory. If the FM
signal be omes weak or is a ompanied by a high level of ba kground hiss,
you may sele t 'MONO' mode by setting the band swit h (18) to the "FM"
position.
The FM band is marked in Megahertz (MHz). To swit h off the radio, set the
fun tion swit h (16) to the 'Tape/Radio Off' position.
Medium and lon wave operation
