Installation
1. Determine how many of the 16" Interlocking Inserts (1)
you will need for your application and snap the Inserts
together. (The included Inserts and Tape Measure work for
applications up to 48" long.) The Inserts have a tab at one end
and a recess at the other. Fit the tab of one Insert into the
recess of another and press until you feel a snap. Fig. 1.
2. Slide the joined 16" Interlocking Inserts (1) into the T-track
where you will use them. Make sure the Inserts remain locked
together, and position them as they will be in use.
3. On each end, mark where the Insert assembly will need
to be cut to fit (if necessary). Only the tab should need to
be removed at one end. Fig. 2.
4. If necessary, slide the Insert assembly so the cut marks are
clear of the T-track ends. Then carefully cut the assembly to
length at the marks. We recommend using a utility knife to cut
the tab, and a handsaw to cut the thicker parts of the Insert.
Ease any rough edges with sandpaper. Fig. 2 and Fig. 3.
5. Using the included Hex Key (3), thread as many #8-32
Nylon Set Screws (2) as needed for your application into
the threaded holes in the 16" Interlocking Inserts (1), but
don’t tighten them.
6. The #8-32 Nylon Set Screws (2) allow you to secure the
Insert assembly permanently in position or set it so that it
won’t shift during use but can be repositioned if desired. You
must decide which setup you want now because the 48" Steel
Tape Measure (5) will eventually cover the Set Screws, making
them inaccessible. Fig. 3

To set it permanently: Make sure the Insert assembly is
positioned as desired and fully tighten the #8-32 Nylon Set
Screws (2) with the Hex Key (3). Fig. 4.
To allow it to be repositioned: Tighten the #8-32 Nylon Set
Screws (2) with the Hex Key (3) and then back off each screw
a quarter-turn. Fig. 4.
7. If necessary for your application, cut the 48" Steel Tape
Measure (5) to length with tin snips or heavy-duty scissors.
Sand away any burr.
8. Peel the backing off the adhesive on the 48" Steel Tape
Measure (5) and apply the Steel Tape Measure to the
Insert assembly, taking care to position it correctly so
that your measurements will be accurate.
9. The Acrylic Hairline Indicator (5) has an adhesive backing and
is provided so you can attach it to Flip Stops (26991 and 31214,
sold separately) or to shop-made jigs to help you achieve
greater accuracy.
