VM-C7200/C7100 Supplementary Q&A
Q. [2nd UNIT] button does not work, even
though the 2nd UNIT is cascade-connected
properly.
A. You cannot switch to the 2nd UNIT if the current
project is not created under cascade
configuration. Please store the project or create a
new project with the cascade-connected 2nd
UNIT.
Q. Effects cannot be inserted in the MULTI IN
channel.
A. To use the effects of the optional VS8F-2 for
channel insert, you need to set them to be
inserted in MULTI IN or INPUT beforehand.
Please set them to MULTI IN as follows.
1. While holding [SHIFT], press [PROJECT].
2. Press [SYSTEM CONFIG].
3. Open “FX MISC” page by pressing [PAGE
UP]/[PAGE DOWN] buttons.
4. Select “INPUT” or “MULTI IN” for each
effect board.
* You can also jump to this page with the
[JUMP] button in the “EFFECTS MENU”
page of [EFFECTS 1-8].
Q. ”MAIN EQ” page of the analyzer does not
appear.
A. To use “MAIN EQ” of the analyzer, you need to
install a VS8F-2 at least. And please insert the “31-
band Graphic EQ” to MAIN.
Q. PAN is not linked even if the CHANNEL
LINK is on.
A. There is a dedicated PAN LIKN switch. In
“MAIN/CUE” page of CH EDIT, set the “PAN
LINK” on.
Q. In the virtual patchbay page, MULTI OUTs
seem to be connected even if the F-BUS is
set to INT mode. Are the signals output?
A. If the F-BUS is set to INT mode, signals are not
output, though the connection seems to be done
in the patchbay page.
Q. I cannot monitor even if I select F-BUS at
SOURCE SELECT for MONITOR.
A. If the F-BUS is set to INT mode, you cannot
monitor.
Q. If I connect TASCAM DA series (DA-38/88/
98) to the R-BUS via DIF-AT, can I set the
DA to sync slave?
A. It is impossible because of the specifications of the
DA series. Set it as sync master.
Q. When I enter in the analyzer page, effect
sound changes.
A. Analyzer consumes one of the internal effect
units. So currently used effect maybe swapped to
the analyzer when it gets active. You can set
which effect unit is used for the analyzer in the
SETUP page of analyzer.
Q. At “NAME&COMMENT” page of PROJECT,
even if I set PROTECT to ON, it is not
checked in the PROTECT box in “SELECT”
page of PROJECT.
A. Changes for PROTECT and NAME are not
applied until you store the project. (Please refer to
the MEMO in p.52, Owner’s manual.)
Q. ”Wrong Card” message appears in the
display if I try to store the project.
A. Please insert the memory card which contains the
current project.
Q. In the “DITHER” page, dither ON/OFF
does not work with F1–F6 buttons.
A. Dither OFF and dithering bit are set with knobs,
not F1–F6 buttons.
Q. For automix, if I set INITIAL SCENE and
then start playing from the TIME CODE 0,
INITIAL SCENE is not recalled.
A. INITIAL SCENE is recalled when [ZERO] button
is pressed. If you move the faders after that,
automix starts from that status, not from the
INITIAL SCENE. Please press [ZERO] button
again to recall the INITIAL SCENE.
Q. Phantom power ON/OFF buttons for
channels 21–24 do not work.
A. These channels are originally assigned to digital
inputs and console inputs, so phantom power
cannot be supplied. But if you assign these
channels to the inputs 1-20 with virtual patchbay,
these buttons become active.

Q. Gain control knobs for channels 21–22 do
not work.
A. These channels are originally assigned to digital
inputs, so it is impossible to control the gain. But
if you assign these channels to the inputs 1-20
with virtual patchbay, these knobs become active.
Q. If I load a project and try to edit the
effects, “No Effects Board.” message
appears in the display.
A. Current effect board configuration is different
from when you saved the project. (Upon loading
the project, this is warned.) Reset the
configuration with the following procedure and
then restore the project.
[SHIFT]+[PROJECT(SYSTEM)]Æ [SYSTEM
CONFIG] Æ [F1(MASTER SET)]
Q. Even if I adjust CUE PAN in “MAIN/CUE”
page, it is not reflected to the display.
A. [CUE PAN SLAVE To MAIN] button seems to be
ON. In this case, CUE PAN display shows MAIN
PAN status.
Q. I stored a SCENE with some parameters
with ACTIVE PARAMETERS set to OFF. Is it
impossible to change those parameters to
active?
A. ACTIVE PARAMETERS ON/OFF reflects only
for recalling the SCENE. All the mixer data is
stored in the SCENE, and by changing ACTIVE
PARAMETERS to ON, desired parameters can be
recalled with the SCENE.
Q. DELAY TIME knob of FEEDBACK DELAY
cannot be turned to full right.
A. Maximum delay time trades between PHASE
DELAY and FEEDBACK DELAY. If you set
PHASE DELAY time longer, maximum
FEEDBACK DELAY time becomes shorter.
Q. Digital MTR is connected to the R-BUS via
DIF-AT. While MTR is fast forwarding/
rewinding to the point designated with
the locate command from the VM, even if
I press [STOP] button on the console, tape
does not stop.
A. If the console is set to master, MTR does not stop
in the middle until it reaches to the designated
point.
Q. Even if I copy the channel settings to the
other channel with COPY LIBRARY, all the
parameters are not be copied.
A. Following parameters are not copied with COPY
LIBRARY. SOURCE SELECT, MULTI OUT
assign, FX insert, CHANNEL LINK, PAN LINK,
AUTO MIX STATUS, SOLO
Q. If the BUS LINK is set to ON, input signal
which was sent to even numbered F-BUS
cannot be heard.
A. If the BUS LINK is set to ON, the signal which
was sent to odd numbered F-BUS will be sent to
both odd and even numbered F-BUSES with pan,
and as a result the original signal for even
numbered F-BUS becomes invalid.
Q. If I turn the CHANNEL LINK to ON,
sometimes MUTE and SOLO settings get
invalid.
A. If you turn the CHANNEL LINK to ON at even
numbered channel, MUTE and SOLO status are
copied from odd numbered channel.
Q. When I use the Word Sync In, mixing
operation sometimes gets unstable, for
example, incorrect scene recall.
A. This may be caused by the unstable word clock
input signal. When you use the VM-7000 series as
a slave of word sync, please use a stable word
clock source such as a dedicated word clock
generator unit.
Q. When I recall the scene, I would like to
keep only the Master fader value as it is
now.
A. Please go into SCENE EDIT page by pressing
[SHIFT]+[SCENE] buttons. In “CH-1” page, set
MAIN (bottom right) to off.
Q. It takes some time to start up the VM
system. What is it for?
A. It is for the VM console to check the entire system
configuration within VM LINK, R-BUS and
cascade connections.
Q. Is it impossible to operate the VM-7000
series at all without SmartMedia?
A. VM-7000 works all right as a basic mixer. But it is
impossible to create a Project, and Automix and
Scene functions do not work.
Q. What shall I do before I turn off the
power of the VM-7000 series?
A. You need to store the Automix data to the
SmartMedia. Press [SHIFT]+[UNDO/REDO]
buttons, then turn the power off.

Q. I would like to protect the current mixer
setting.
A. Please store the current setting to a SCENE. Then
go into SCENE EDIT page by pressing
[SHIFT]+[SCENE] buttons. In “NAME” page, set
the PROTECT on. SCENE data is stored in the
SmartMedia directly, so you can keep and
manage the mixer settings by SmartMedia cards.
Q. If I use only one VM processor which
includes the VM-24C cascade kit without
connecting with the other processor, it
does not work correctly.
A. VM processor which includes the slave card of
the VM-24C cascade kit does not work as a
master unit in the single processor configuration.
Please take the slave card off the processor.
Q. If I set “VM-LINK AUDIO-THRU” to
“THRU,” and press [TALKBACK/SLATE]
button, the sound oscillates.
A. VM-LINK AUDIO-THRU function is used when
you cascade two consoles. If you set it to “THRU”
when you use only one console, or if you set it to
“THRU” on both consoles when you cascade two
consoles, the audio loops. If you use two consoles
in cascade connection, please set it to “THRU”
only on the console which is connected to the
“OUT” jack of VM-LINK on the processor.
Q. When I cascade the processors, the
sounds which are input to the 1st UNIT
(MASTER) cannot be output from the MAIN
OUT or MONITOR OUT of the 2nd UNIT
(SLAVE).
A. It is impossible to send the MAIN, CUE or FLEX
BUS from the master unit to slave unit.
Q. Level meter display on the slave console
does not work correctly. Display of the
meter bridge which is connected to the
slave console does not work correctly.
A. Slave console receives the level meter information
displayed on the master console, and displays on
its display. So if the level meter screen is
displayed on the slave console and the analyzer
screen is displayed on the master console, the
slave console the analyzer information on its level
meter screen. This is because the level meter
information for only one unit is transferred
through the VM-LINK cable.
Inconsistent display on the meter bridge is also
because of this. Please do not connect the meter
bridge to the slave console.
Q. About the parameters which are
controlled in MONITOR/PHONES section
when cascading the two processors.
A. Following parameters are adjusted as a common
value to each processor.

Q. About the settings for connecting the VM-
7000 series and the VM-3100Pro with R-
BUS (RMDB2).
A. While you operate the VM-3100Pro as
INTERNAL and the VM-7000 series as “MULTI
IN” (VM-3100Pro is the clock master in this case),
please do not disconnect the R-BUS cable. If you
disconnect, “WORD CLOCK SOURCE” of the
VM-7000 series automatically turns to
“INTERNAL.” And if you connect them again,
both units are set to INTERNAL and cannot be
synchronized. Loud noise is generated and
speakers may be damaged in worst case. Also the
VM-3100Pro is not accommodated with 48 kHz
sampling rate, so please set “INTERNAL
SAMPLING RATE” to 44.1 kHz.
Q. What is the priority of the R-BUS (RMDB2)
connectors?
A. When you connect the devices to the R-BUS
(RMDB2) connectors, please use them in order
from the smaller numbered connector. For
instance, you cannot use only MULTI 9–16
without using MULTI 1–8, or use MULTI 1–8 and
17–24 without using MULTI 9–16. Or you cannot
disconnect the R-BUS while the power is on. You
need to turn off the power to change the

connection of R-BUS devices.
Q. Time code which is sent from the ADAT
connected to the master processor via DIF-
AT is not displayed in the slave console.
A. Time code is not sent to the slave console, and it
cannot be displayed.
Q. ”Checking CURRENT SETTING... NG” is
displayed after I turn the power on the
console.
A. There may be an error in the SRAM check upon
booting up. Please contact Roland service center.
Q. MTC which is sent from the external
device cannot be displayed in the meter
bridge connected to the console.
A. Function changes by the settings of SYNC and
MIDI as follows.

Q. If I record or recall the SCENE while Auto
Mix recording, any operation cannot be
recorded. It takes longer to locate using
TRANSPORT buttons, etc., while playing
the Auto Mix.
A. Accessing to the SCENE data is always prior to
any other operation. No other operation can be
executed while loading the SCENE. During Auto
Mix playback, if you locate with TRANSPORT
buttons, SCENE data of the located destination
should be recalled and it also takes certain time.
Q. Even if I set “SECTION” to “2nd UNIT” on
the console, and try to set “WORD CLOCK
SOURCE,” it cannot be active.
A. You cannot set the 2nd UNIT processor (slave) as
the clock source.
Q. I cannot adjust any parameters in SYS
SYNC/MMC screen. I cannot operate
[PLAY], [REW/PREV] or [FF/NEXT] by
TRANSPORT buttons if the SYS SYNC/
MMC screen is open.
A. You cannot operate these parameters while
playing by TRANSPORT button. If you press
STOP button, you can operate them. Also in
SYSTEM SYNC/MMC screen, some
TRANSPORT operations are prohibited including
[PLAY], [REW/PREV] and [FF/NEXT].
Q. About the parameters which are recalled
when “ACTIVE PARAMETER SWITCH” is
“ON.”
A. Following parameters can be recalled.
