Ron Francis Wiring BX-10 User manual

Part Number: BX-10
The BX-10 is a fully programmable, state of the art relay system that allows full control over each of the
10 individual 20 amp relayed circuits. Please read through the instructions completely to fully understand
how this unit operates.

Button/Selector Descriptions:
Button Name Button Description
SWITCH For the SWITCH selector you can choose either MOMENTARY or LATCHING.
MOMENTARY means the relay is only activated while the trigger wire for that
circuit is activated. LATCHING means the relay is activated continuously once
the trigger wire has been activated and will be deactivated once the trigger wire
is activated again.
IGNITION The IGNITION selector chooses whether the relay circuit is activated only with
the ignition turned on or all the time (whether ignition is on or not). ALWAYS
ON means the relay circuit can be activated whether the ignition system is on
or not. IGNITION ON means the relay circuit can only be activated when the
ignition system is on.
INPUT The INPUT selector chooses whether you are activating a relay circuit by
applying power to the trigger wire or ground to the trigger wire. SWITCH PWR
means you will be controlling a relay circuit by applying power to the trigger
wire. SWITCH GND means you will be controlling a relay circuit by applying
ground to the trigger wire.
OUTPUT The OUTPUT selector chooses whether your device attached to th relay circuit
is receiving a ground or power. Choose SWITCH PWR if the equipment
connected to the relay circuit requires power to operate. Choose SWITCH GND
if the equipment connected to the relay circuit requires ground to operate. The
OUTPUT selector also has a WINDOWS option. The WINDOWS option allows
you to program two relay circuits together to create a reversing polarity circuits
for items such as power windows.
Programming:
With the ignition on or off you can wake up the BX-10 by pressing any button for two seconds.
Once the unit is active, press any relay circuit button for two seconds and the light for that relay circuit
will light up and the selector buttons will reflect how that relay circuit is programmed.
To program a single relay circuit:
1) Chose from the selectors to program how you want that circuit to behave: SWITCH, IGNITION,
INPUT, OUTPUT. See Button/Selector description section for more information/definitions.
2) Once you have made your choices on the selectors, press and hold the PROGRAM and the relay
circuit button at the same time until the relay circuit’s light flashes. That relay circuit is now programmed
to whichever selector switches you chose.
NOTE: If you plan to activate any circuits with a common ignition hot that is also running to the
ignition on connector on the end of the BX-10, it is recommended to program those circuits to
ALWAYS ON. The circuits will still only activate when the ignition is activated but will prevent any
possible intermittent performance due to switching circuits at the same moment box is receiving
the ignition on signal. No additional load will be incurred when ignition is turned off.

To program two relay circuits together:
If you need more than 20 amps capacity for any relay circuit, two relays can be programmed together
for 40 amps of capacity. Use the lowest number trigger to activate the two relays. Only one trigger is
necessary.
NOTE: A maximum of 40 amps available per circuit. Attempting to stack more than 2 circuits
together will create load balancing issues and will result in blown fuses.
1) Chose from the selectors to program how you want that circuit to behave: SWITCH, IGNITION,
INPUT, OUTPUT. See Button/Selector description section for more information/definitions.
2) Once you have made your choices on the selectors, press and hold the PROGRAM and both relay
circuit buttons at the same time until those relay circuit’s lights flash. Those relay circuits are now
programmed to whichever selector switches you chose.
3) You will need to install jumpers between the output terminals for the relay circuits you programmed
together in order to complete the 40 amp capacity for the circuit you created.
4) Control for this circuit will be handled by the lowest numbered relay circuit included in this group. The
other trigger wire for this group can be ignored.
To program a reversing polarity circuit:
A reversing polarity circuit will require two relay circuits:
1) Choose from the selectors to program how you want that circuit to behave: SWITCH needs to be on
WINDOWS, IGNITION, INPUT, OUTPUT. See Button/Selector description section for more
information/definitions.
2) Once you have made your choices on the selectors, press and hold the PROGRAM and the two relay
circuit buttons you want programmed together on that circuit at the same time. Continue to hold until the
two relay circuit’s lights flashes. That relay circuit is now programmed for reversing polarity.
3) Both trigger wires on this relay circuit will be used. When one of the relay circuit triggers is activated,
the relay circuits outputs will be power and ground one way and when the other relay circuit trigger is
activated, the relay circuit outputs will be ground and power the other way.

Supplied Wire Connections:
WIRE PRINTING WIRE
COLOR
USE
BATTERY Red This is the main power for the unit. Using the pre-terminated ring terminal,
connect the wire to the + terminal/screw on the BX-10 and run to a good battery
power location. Preferably the starter solenoid or wherever the battery cable is
attached to.
GROUND Black This is the main ground for the unit. Using the pre-terminated ring term inal,
connect the wire to the - terminal/screw on the BX-10 and run to a good chassis
ground. Preferably the engine block or frame ground.
TO IGN HOT Orange This is the ignition hot wire. The wire is installed in a four position connector
where the other three positions are empty. Plug this connector into the end of
the BX-10. Connect to an ignition source that is fused at a rating of 5 to 10
amps.
