SMA Solar Technology AG
Replacement Manual STP60-ACRLY-EMV-RM-xx-10 7
DANGER
Danger to life due to electric shock when live components or cables of the
inverter are touched
High voltages are present in the conductive components or cables of the inverter. Touching live
parts and cables of the inverter results in death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
• Disconnect the inverter from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be reconnected
before working on the device.
• After disconnection, wait 60 minutes until the capacitors have discharged.
• Wear suitable personal protective equipment for all work on the product.
• Do not touch non-insulated parts or cables.
DANGER
Danger to life due to electric shock when live components or DC cables are
touched
When exposed to light, the PV modules generate high DC voltage which is present in the DC
cables. Touching live DC cables results in death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
• Do not touch non-insulated parts or cables.
• Disconnect the inverter from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be reconnected
before working on the device.
• Wear suitable personal protective equipment for all work on the product.
DANGER
Danger to life due to electric shock when touching live system components in
case of a ground fault
If a ground fault occurs, parts of the system may still be live. Touching live parts and cables
results in death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
• Disconnect the inverter from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be reconnected
before working on the device.
• Only touch the cables of the PV modules on their insulation.
• Do not touch any parts of the substructure or frame of the PV array.

WARNING
Danger to life due to fire or explosion
In rare cases, an explosive gas mixture can be generated inside the inverter under fault
conditions. In this state, switching operations can cause a fire inside the inverter or explosion.
Death or lethal injuries due to hot or flying debris can result.
• In the event of a fault, do not perform any direct actions on the inverter.
• Ensure that unauthorized persons have no access to the inverter.
• Disconnect the PV array from the inverter via an external disconnection device. If there is no
disconnecting device present, wait until no more DC power is applied to the inverter.
• Disconnect the AC circuit breaker, or keep it disconnected in case it has already tripped,
and secure it against reconnection.
• Only perform work on the inverter (e.g., troubleshooting, repair work) when wearing
personal protective equipment for handling of hazardous substances (e.g., safety gloves,
eye and face protection, respiratory protection).
WARNING
Risk of injury due to toxic substances, gases and dusts.
In rare cases, damages to electronic components can result in the formation of toxic substances,
gases or dusts inside the inverter. Touching toxic substances and inhaling toxic gases and dusts
can cause skin irritation, burns or poisoning, trouble breathing and nausea.
• Only perform work on the inverter (e.g., troubleshooting, repair work) when wearing
personal protective equipment for handling of hazardous substances (e.g., safety gloves,
eye and face protection, respiratory protection).
• Ensure that unauthorized persons have no access to the inverter.
WARNING
Danger to life due to fire when failing to observe torque specifications on live
bolted connections
Failure to follow the specified torques reduces the ampacity of live bolted connections and the
contact resistances increase. This can cause components to overheat and catch fire. Death or
lethal injuries can result.
• Ensure that live bolted connections are always tightened with the exact torque specified in
this document.
• Only use suitable tools when working on the device.
• Avoid repeated tightening of live bolted connections as this may result in inadmissibly high
torques.

WARNING
Danger to life due to electric shock from destruction of the measuring device
due to overvoltage
Overvoltage can damage a measuring device and result in voltage being present in the
enclosure of the measuring device. Touching the live enclosure of the measuring device results in
death or lethal injuries due to electric shock.
• Only use measuring devices with a measurement ranges designed for the maximum AC and
DC voltage of the inverter.
CAUTION
Risk of burns due to hot enclosure parts
Some parts of the enclosure can get hot during operation.
• Do not touch any parts other than the lower enclosure lid of the inverter during operation.
NOTICE
Damage to the enclosure seal in subfreezing conditions
If you open the inverter when temperatures are below freezing, the enclosure seals can be
damaged. This can lead to moisture entering the inverter.
• Only open the inverter if the ambient temperature is not below -5°C.
• If a layer of ice has formed on the enclosure seal when temperatures are below freezing,
remove it prior to opening the inverter (e.g. by melting the ice with warm air).
NOTICE
Damage to the inverter due to sand, dust and moisture
Sand, dust and moisture penetration can damage the inverter, thus impairing its functionality.
• Only open the inverter if the humidity is within the thresholds and the environment is free of
sand and dust.
• Do not open the inverter during a dust storm or precipitation.
• Close the inverter in case of interruption of work or after finishing work.
NOTICE
Damage to the inverter due to electrostatic discharge
Touching electronic components can cause damage to or destroy the inverter through
electrostatic discharge.
• Ground yourself before touching any component.
Grounding conductor test prior to recommissioning
Prior to recommissioning SMA inverters after the installation of SMA components or power
assemblies which cannot be replaced intuitively, ensure that the grounding conductor in the
inverter is correctly connected. The function of the grounding conductor must be ensured and
all locally applicable laws, standards and directives must be observed.

5 Procedure
5.1 Verifying the spare-part sets availability
This document describes the first replacement of the AC relay assembly in one of the permitted
SMA inverters (see Section2.1, page6), which still has an AC relay assembly from ABB Asea
Brown Boveri Ltd installed.
The procedure for replacing the assembly depends on the assemblies installed in the inverter and
the availability of spare-part sets. Therefore, prior to each assembly replacement, the current
features of the inverter and the deliverability of the spare-part sets must be verified.
Procedure:
1. Check if the hardware version of the PSU assembly is DT8 or higher. The characters DTx in
the assembly identification show the hardware version of the assembly. The assembly
identification xxxxxxxx DTx is located at the bottom right of the assembly.
2. Check if a PSU assembly with the hardware version DT8 or higher is available.
3. If the hardware version of the PSU assembly is DT7 or lower and no PSU assembly with the
hardware version DT8 or higher is available, use the spare-part sets NR-STP60-CONTASS
