Illustration showing Tandem Connection
Main Functions of Tandem Option
1. It is possible to connect two (2) Ri 6230 machines with TS-1, and output 124cpm/ppm.
2. You can evenly divide a job from the copier or the PC, and output to 2 machines.
3. When a machine problem occurs, (Jam/Error code/Paper empty/Toner empty) while tandem
printing, the second machine will finish the entire job. This is called the Output Recovery Function.
4. When tandem printing, the Sub machine can be interrupted to make copies by hitting the interrupt
key. This feature will reduce waiting time when an end user needs to make copies quickly.

Precaution During Set-up or Preventative Maintenance
(Image Formation Unit)
If the Image Formation Unit is not inserted completely, the Drum Couplings will not mesh correctly,
causing poor Drum rotation. Since the Drum does not rotate during this period, an excessive charge
will be placed on one area, causing damage and in some cases pinholes on the Drum.
Precaution:
Please follow the instructionsbelow whenever inserting the Image Formation Unit. These
precautions are also notedinthe setup procedure section in the Service Manual.
1. Check that the Lever on the Developing Ass’y is shifted in the direction of the arrow and the Lock
Lever is lowered by 90º as shown in(Fig. 1).
2. Be sure to insert the Image Formation Unit all the way in the main unit. Lift the Paper Transfer
Section Release Lever and then secure the Image Formation Unit using the three- (3) screws as
shown in(Fig. 2).

Updated Service Information
The Information outlined below was not available at the time of the Ri 6230 introduction. Please add this
information to your Service Manual and/or Parts List.
Initial production machines manufactured before September 2000 do not have the Main Switch Junction
Wiring installed. The Main Switch Junction Wiring is necessary to enable the Drum Heater, when the Main
Switch is “OFF” to prevent condensation on the drum in high humidity environments. Maintenance Mode
U339 (Setting the Heater ON/OFF) must be turned “ON” to enable the Drum Heater. Please install the Main
Switch Junction Wiring whenever necessary.
Precaution: Machines manufactured after October 2000
The Main Switch Junction Wiring is attached to the Primary Wire. The Wiring must be connected at
machine set-up if the Drum Heater is to be used.
