Thank you for choosing RUIDE theodolite RT-2.
Please read this manual carefully before use.
PRECAUTIONS
a. Do not collimate the objective lens directly to the sun without a filter.
b. Do not store the instrument in extremely high or low temperature.
c. When the instrument is not in use, store it in the case and avoid shock, dust and humidity.
d. If there is great difference between the temperature in work site and that in store place, leave the
instrument in the case until it adapts to the temperature of environment.
e. If the instrument will not be used for a long time, remove the battery for separate storage. The
battery should be charged once a month.
f. During transportation, the instrument should be placed in the carrying case.
g. For better accuracy, the instrument should be set up on a wooden tripod rather than an aluminum
tripod.
h. Clean those exposed optical parts with degreased cotton or tissue only.
i. Clean the instrument surface with a woolen cloth after use. If it gets wet, dry it immediately.
j. Before turning on, inspect the power, functions and indications of the instrument as well as its initial
setting and correction parameters.
k. Do not attempt to disassemble the instrument without professional technical support and guidance.
l. Do not aim the laser plummet with eyes.
m. Keep the screen clean. Do not scratch the screen with sharp objects.

2.1 Keys

3. OPERATION
3.1 Starting Up
Press Power key for 3 seconds to power it on. If you see a sign “b”
like below, it means it is not levelled well. Adjust the tribrach screws to
level the theodolite more precisely until this Sign “b” disappears. You
can also turn off the compensation to skip this error (Refer to Session
5.6 to see how).
3.2 Laser Plummet (Optional)
Press the key of Laser Plummet to activate or disactivate the laser
plummet when mounting the theodolite on a tripod. The sign will
show as below.
3.3 Angle Measurement
3.3.1 Set Horizontal Angle to 0°
After aiming to the target, press 0SET twice to set the horizontal
angle to 0°. It only applicable for horizontal angle which is not in

“HOLD” status. The interval between 2 pressing should not be
more than 3 seconds.
3.3.2 Hold Horizontal Angle
It is used in the circumstances when you need to hold the value of
horizontal angle.
When rotating to a certain degree, press HOLD to freeze the
current horizontal angle value, while a sign of HOLD will be shown
on the screen. The horizontal angle value will not change no matter
how you rotate.
Press again to disable this function.
Notice: This function is only applicable for horizontal angle.
3.3.3 Value/Slope
Press V/% to shift the display mode of vertical angle between value
and slope.
When the vertical angle is between -45°to 45°,the slope will
display as below.

Notice: When the vertical angle is out of range of -45°to 45°,the
slope will show error.

4. SETTING
Press the key SET to enter to Setting menu.
Select different settings by pressing ◄, ►(L/R, 0SET).
Press ▲, ▼ (HOLD, V/%) to choose different options in a specific setting.
Press SET again to confirm the settings.
4.1 Backlight and Crosshair Light
Press the key to turn on the screen backlight and crosshair light.
Press it again to turn them off.
4.2 Auto Power Off
There’re 3 options for Auto Power Off. Press ▲, ▼ (HOLD, V/%) to shift
different options, and then press SET to confirm the setting.

4.3 Sector Beep
In this function, a beeping will be activated when the horizontal angle

is close to 0°, 90°, 180°and 270°. Press ▲, ▼ (HOLD, V/%) to shift
different options, and then press SET to confirm the setting. A sign of
BEEP will show on screen.

4.4 Angle Unit
3 units of angle: dms, gon, mil. Press ▲, ▼ (HOLD, V/%) to shift different
options, and then press SET to confirm the setting.

4.5 Minimum Change of Angle
Change the minimum change of the angle as below. Press ▲, ▼ (HOLD,
V/%) to shift different options, and then press SET to confirm the setting.

4.6 Tilt Compensation
Turn on and off the tilt compensation. Press ▲, ▼ (HOLD, V/%) to shift
different options, and then press SET to confirm the setting.

4.7 Laser Plummet (Optional)
Adjust the laser density of the laser plummet from grade 1 to 5. Press
▲, ▼ (HOLD, V/%) to shift different options, and then press SET to
confirm the setting.

4.8 Set Vertical 0
To set the vertical 0 position to horizontal zero or zenith zero. Press ▲,
▼(HOLD, V/%) to shift different options, and then press SET to confirm
the setting.

5. CALIBRATION
Notice: A specific and precise collimator is required for calibrations.
Hold 0SET and press Power at the same time to turn on the theodolite, to
calibrate the i angle, which is referred to the vertical index difference.
Step 1: Rotate the theodolite to Face Left (Face 1), collimate the crosshair
center of a collimator and adjust the focus until it seems clearly. Press 0SET,
and it goes to Face Right (Face 2).
Step 2: Rotate the theodolite to Face Right (Face 2), collimate the crosshair
center of a collimator and adjust the focus until it seems clearly. Press 0SET.
The system will correct the error and return to the display of Face Left (Face 1).
However, if the error is too big to correct, an error code “E-20” will show. If so,
press V/% to return to calibration again, and repeat the above steps until the
error is corrected.
