6. Installation Procedure
6.1 Introduction
Thissection contains thenecessaryinformationsfor the installation andpreliminary
checksonthePJ2000M.
6.2 Unpacking
Unpack the amplifier and before any other operation check that the amplifier isn’t
damagedandallthecontrolsonthefrontand rear panels are in good condition.
6.3 Installation
After all the connections have been made between the individual devices, it is
necessarytoperform the following operations to install the PJ2000M:
1) WiththehelpofFigure2,verify thatallthe connectionsarein perfectcondition.
Eventualerrorscancause damage to the amplifier modules.
2) Performtheupper setup, connect a 2KW 50 Ohm dummy load totheHC2-2's
outputconnector withathroughwattmeter inseries.
3) Connectanexciter with a output power not less than50WtotheR.F. inputof
theHC2-2.
4) Setthe output power oftheexciterto the minimumvalue.
5) Switchon the two PJ1000M and the exciter, and then wait until the exciter is
lockedonto the operatingfrequency.
6) Increasegradually the outputpowerof the exciter, verifyingatthesame timea
proportionalincreaseof output power of the PJ1000M (PWR FWDofthetwo
amplifiers)andanincreaseof the output power on the meter of the hybrid
combinerwiththeselectorontheFWD position;theoutput poweronthe meter
ofthe HC2-2hybridcombiner is,apartfrom theinstrumentserrors andthelittle
lossinthecombiner, twicerespecttheoutputpowerof each amplifier.
Thisvalue can becomparedwiththevalue read withtheexternalwattmeter.

7) Increasetheexciter output power in order to have 2000W power on the
PJ2000M.
8) Switchthe meter selector of the HC2-2 to the RFL position and verify that the
meterneedleisatzero.
Note: To verify the correct balancing of the two PJ1000M modules, do switch the
meterselectorofthe HC2-2 to UNBAL position and verify that thepowerisn'tmore
than20W.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Introduction
Thissectionprovidesgeneralmaintenanceinformationand electricaladjustmentfor
the PJ2000MAmplifier.
Maintenance is divided into categories dependent upon the complexity of the
procedureandthe test equipment required to complete themaintenance.
7.2 Safety Consideration
When the amplifier is operational, hazardous voltages and high currents are
accessible internally, and there are high power R.F. signals.
Don’t remove any cover without switching off the system first and close all
covers before restarting the system.
Ensureall primarypower isdisconnected fromthe amplifier before attempting
equipment maintenance.
FIRST LEVEL MAINTENANCE
7.3 Ordinary Maintenance
The only regular maintenance needed by PJ2000M, is the periodic substitution of
the blowers, and the cleaning of dust filters and any dust accumulated inside the
amplifier.
Thetime between overhauling of the blowers dependsuponseveralenvironmental
factors,temperature, humidity, dustpollutionetc.
It’sadvisable to check theunitevery6 months, and tosubstitutenoisyblowers.
Blowersshouldbechangedasamatterofcourse at least every 18 months.
SECOND LEVEL MAINTENANCE
7.4 Equipment’s Card Replacement
Seeasreferencethecardreplacementsectiononthemanualsoftherelativedevice.

PJ2000M
14 / 18 UserManualRev.3.1 - 20/11/02
7.5 Equipment Replacement
If it’s necessary to replace a power amplifier or the hybrid coupler, it is advisable to
performthe adjustment of the sytem. Refertochapter8fordirections.
