HOSE INFLATION SYSTEM CONTENTS
1 x Stowage bag including system user manual &
compact inflation kit user manual
1 x Yellow Hose Tail End with Male Coupling
1 x Red Hose Tail End with Female
Coupling fitted with 1 x Inflation Valve and
1 x Pressure Relief Valve.
1 x SAF38038 Compact Inflation Kit, which
includes hose assembly and regulator with a DIN
fitting screw thread, which is suitable for both 200
& 300 bar compressed air cylinders.
Equipment Required For Operation
200 or 300 bar compressed air cylinder with DIN fitting.

Roll out your length of fire Hose in the location where it is required.
Connect Male Tail End (Yellow) into the Female Coupling on the Fire Hose.
Connect Female Tail End (Red) into the other end of Fire Hose.
Connect the Regulator into the Compressed Air Cylinder: See Fig 1
Connect the other end of inflation hose into the Inflation Valve on the Hose Tail End by
screwing the adaptor into the inflation valve as shown in Fig 2, ensuring first that the
inflation valve is in the closed position by pushing the valve spring with your finger and
turning clockwise so the spring is in the out position: See Fig 3&4
Before you commence inflation ensure the fire hose is straight with no kinks along the
full length of it.
Gently turn the valve on the cylinder to inflate the fire hose, do not open too quickly or
open the cylinder valve fully. Continue inflating until the pressure relief valve (See fig 5)
starts to operate.
When the hose has reached its operational pressure you will hear the pressure relief
valve releasing air. When the hose is fully inflated carefully un-screw the hose fitting
anti-clockwise from the inflation valve on the hose tail end. Then make sure you place
the protective cap onto the inflation valve body, to avoid any potential damage to the
valve mechanism.
You can now start to feed out the fire hose to the incident location. The fire hose can be
twisted clockwise so it acts to assist with manoeuvring the hose to its intended position.
Dismantling The System
Remove the fire hose from the water.
Remove the protective cap from the inflation valve: See fig 3&4
Place finger into the inflation valve and gently push down and twist the valve spring anti
clockwise to deflate hose: See fig 6&7
When the hose is fully deflated, remove both tail ends from the fire hose and replace
the protective cap on the inflation valve to mitigate any damage to the valve.

If the system has been used in contaminated or salt water, flush and rinse with fresh
water.
Ensure the mesh filter on the pressure relief valve is free from debris by rinsing it
out with fresh water
Keep protective cap on the inflation valve when the system is not in use to stop
contaminants or foreign bodies entering and potentially damaging the valve.
Replace protective cap on inflation hose/regulator to prevent damaging the threads
which may prevent it from screwing into the cylinder in future: See fig 8.
Before packing into the stowage bag, check the inflation hose to make sure there
are no visible signs of damage.
Instantaneous Couplings: Periodically check condition of the rubber sealing ring in
the female coupling on both hose tail ends and also the Layflat fire hose: See Fig 9
Storz Couplings: Periodically check the condition of the rubber seal in both tail end
couplings.
Check that the ‘O’ ring for the DIN cylinder connection is still in position: See fig 11
Important
Safequip cannot be held responsible for injury due to mishandling
of compressed air cylinders. Please ensure you read this manual to
ensure safe operation of the system.
Only use compressed air cylinders which have been type-tested and approved for
the related working pressures for breathable air as defined in EN 12021.
Care should be taken when handling cylinders, never carry by the hand wheel,
always disconnect before transport and always secure cylinders not in use so they
cannot move in transit.
Before use the operator should check that cylinders are adequately filled to carry
out the required operation.
External icing may occur on the cylinder valve, pressure reducing valve and inflation
coupling, depending on the temperature, but this will not affect the operation or
function of the system.
Care must be taken when handling cylinder valves in this situation. Ideally gloves
should be worn whenever possible.
Completely empty cylinders should be dried, this is necessary to avoid the formation
of condensation inside cylinders. They can be dried, for example, after being
recharged twice at operating pressure with dry compressed air coming from a
suitable compressor and then depressurised slowly.
