1.Propeller

●Dependingontheairframe,pleaseadopttheadequatesizeintherangeof5,800~7,000rpmfromreliableproducts
generallyonthemarket.
●Sinceanimbalancedpropisvibratoryanddangerous,pleasemaintainbalancewithabalancer.
●Acrackedpropshouldneverbeused.Makesuretocheckanytimeandreplaceitwithanewoneifitʼscracked.
●Neverusetoolowloadpropasitleadslargevibrationandmayresultinenginefailureoraccident.
●Tightenupthepropnutaftereveryflight.Especiallyawoodenproptendstocompressedsotakecareofitslooseness.
2.Fuel,tank,piping
●Sincegasolineisdangerousmaterial,becarefulofitsstorage,use,andtransportenough.
●Unleadedhigh-octanegasolineisnotrequiredforSAITOengine.
●Thefuelismixtureofcommercialregulargasolineandreliableoilfor2-strokeengines.
●[Exampleofoilrecommendation]
・KlotzKL-200OriginalTechniplate ・MorgansCoolPower'Blue'SyntheticLubricant etc.
●Lubricationforpiston,connectingrod,bearingorcamgearisablow-bylubricationinwhichtheoilinthefuelgoes
intothecrankcasefromtheclearancebetweenthecylinderandpiston.Thereforetheenginelifeisaffectedbythe
propertyofthefueloil.Pleaseusetheoilofreliablequality.
●Pleasebesuretousethemixture“gasoline:oil=15~20:1”byvolumeratio.(Ex.1000mlofgasolineshouldbemixed
withmorethan50mlofoil).
●Anydamagecausedbythefuelused,inwhichtheoilratioislowerthan20:1ratio,isnotwarranted.
●Pleaseusepuregasolineaslongaspossible.Insomeareasintheworld,standardgasolinecontainsspecificamount
ofethanol.Suchfuelmaycausenotonlypowerlossbutalsocorrosioninsidethecrankcase.
●Ifyoucanʼtgetpuregasolinefortheengine,pleasemakesuretofollowtheprocedurebelowafterthelastoperation
oftheday;toremovetheblow-bygasfromthecrankcaseandpreventtheenginefromcorrosion.
1)Stoptheenginebyfuelcuttoburnoutthefuelinthecarburetor.
2)Removetheremainingfuelfromthetank.
3)TurnofftheswitchoftheIgnition.
4)Openthethrottle.
5)Applyanelectricstartertotheproptorunwithoutfireforabout10sec.
●Makesuretouse“gasoline-proof”productsforthetank,lidrubber,piping,andtubing.Someoftheproductsforglow
fuelcanʼtbeusedforgasoline.
●Usethegasolineprooftankwhichhasadequatecapacity(Approx.“FuelconsumptionxFlightduration+100~200cc).
●Thecarburetorhasapumpbutitspumpingpressureisnotsostrong.Placethetankasclosetothecarbaspossible.
●Setthetankinordertomakethefuellevelslightlylowerthanthecenterofthecarb.
●Sincecommercialgasolinecontainsmanyimpurities,pleasebesuretouseareliablefilterfortheadmissionportofthe
gasoline-prooffuelpump(Fig.2)andinthefueltankaswell(Fig.3).
●Withoutusingfilters,properperformanceofthecarburetorisnotdelivered,resultinginfailures.
●Provide“Fuelfeedingpipe”,“Carbfeedingpipe”,and“Airinhalationpipe”separately(Fig.3).
●Whenprovide“Airinhalationpipe”asFig.4,arrangethetubeabovethefuellevelto
avoidoverflow.
●Pleasecheckcarefullyifthere'sanycrackonthepiping,tubing,connection,and
tank.(Ifthereʼsanyleakages,notonlytheperformanceoftheenginedecreases
dramaticallybutalsothereisdangeroffire.)
●AlloftheconnectionpartsshouldbeboundbythinNylonstraporwiretoavoid
fuelleakageorairinductiontothefuelline.
3.Ignitionsystem
●Theignitionsystemdevelopsextremelyhighvoltage.Donottouchitduringoperation.
●Useaplasticcliptoholdtheconnectorsandspiraltubetoprotecteachwireoftheignitionsystem.
●Isolatetheignitionsystemcompletelyfromthereceiver,servos,andbatteriestoavoidaradio-interferencetrouble.

4.Sparkplug
●UNEF1/4-32mmsparkplug(SP-2)isthestandardequipment.
●Attachtheplugcapfromtheignitionsystemtoeachcapandinserttheclipintothegrooveontheplug.
●Setthenumbersofflightsbyyourselftoreplacethesparkplug.
●Replacetheplugtoanewonewhenyouflightedasmanyasabove.(Asparkplugisconsumable.)
5.EngineInstallation
●Asthecarburetorcomesoutfrombackofthefirewall,cutoutthefirewallasadequate
sizereferringtoFig.3.
●Sometimesfuelgetflownbackfromcarburetorandmayspatterinsidethefirewall.For
thatcase,makesuretocoverthebatteries,RCequipmentandallthefoammemberswith
gasoline-proofmaterial.
●Makethefirewallrobustenoughtoendurevibrationandtorque.
●Itispreferabletoapplysomeadhesives(suchasscrewlock)onthetipofeachcapscrew
toavoidloosenesswhenyouinstalltheengine.
●Takespecialcareforcoolingengineasinsufficientcoolingcausesenginetroublesuchas
overheat,percolation,ormufflerlooseness.
●Toensurecoolwindpassesthroughtheengine,thecowlingshouldbedevised.Building
somebafflesinsidethecowlingishighlyrecommendedforefficientcooling.(Fig.7)
●Maketheairflowoutletareaabout3-timeslargerthantheinletarea.
●Themufflersshouldbesecurelyinserteddeeplyintotheadopterandtightenedupusing
spanners.
●Makesuretofixtheoutletoftheflexiblemufflersoutsideofthecowlingusingthe
attachedbracket.
●Todisposeofdirtyoilfromthebreather,attachthegasolineprooftubetothebreather
nippleandfixtheothersideofthetubeonoutsideofthecowling.(Fig.8)
6.Carburetor
●Astobothneedles,turntoCW,thefuelwillbecomeleanerandtherotationspeedwillincrease.
TurninCCW,thefuelwillbecomericherandtherotationspeedwilldecrease.
Mainneedle:Toadjustthespeedatthetimeoffullopenofthethrottle.
Slowneedle:Toadjustthespeedfromtheidlingtothemiddlespeed.
●Bothneedlesareinterferedslightlyfromeachothersoconfirmthebalanceofpeakandresponseafteradjustment.

●Useabout1000cctankforthetestbench,oratankwhichhasappropriatecapacityfortheplane.
●Fillupthetankwiththefuelmixtureof“gasoline:oil”=“15~20:1”.
●AttachawellbalancedD21”xP10”~D23”xP8”proptotheengineshaft.
●Tostartwithanelectricstarter,attachaspinnertotheendoftheshaft.
●Toseethepeakconditionclearly,useatachometer.Itwillpreventover-throttlingoroverheat.Youcanalsousethe
digitaltachometer(Option).
●Tocheckdischargefromthebreather,attachagasoline-prooftransparenttubetothebreathernipple.
8.Break-in
●AsBreak-inisanimportantprocedurenotonlytopulloutthemaximumperformanceoftheengine,butalsoto
preventtheenginefromoverheatintheearlystageofoperation,itmustbecautiouslydone.
●Thepurposeofbreak-inisinitiallubricationandadjustingofthemobilepartsundertheconditionofrichfuelmixture.
●NevermakethefuelmixtureleanduringBreak-in.Itcouldcauseseizureevenduringidlingorlowspeedrunning.

●Openthethrottlefullyandopenthemainneedleuntilthespeeddropsjustbeforeenginestops.(Ref.Underapprox
4,000rpmatfullthrottle.)
●Ifthefuelmixturedoesnʼtbecomerichandspeeddoesnʼtdecrease,opentheslowneedletoo.
●Thencontinuerunningfor2tanksunderthesamecondition.
●Duringthisinitialoperation,contactofeachpartinsidetheenginewillbematched.Somakethefuelmixtureasrich
astheenginedoesnʼtstop.Donotcareaboutrunningsmoothnessatthisstep.
●Refillthetankandstartuptheengineagain.
●Openthethrottlefullyandturnthemainneedletoachievepeakandlessspeed(richer)alternatelyabout5times.
●Maintainthepeakconditionlonggradually.
●Whenthepeakgetsstable,operatethethrottletovaryfromslowtohighspeedseveraltimestochecktheresponse.
●Afterthatrunitfor2-3minuteskeepinghighspeed.
●Whenitcomestorunsmoothlyatpeak,break-inonthegroundiscompleted.
●Flyitforabout20timesinrichconditiontocompletebreak-inintheair.
●Afterbreak-in,pleaseruntheengineinslightlyrichconditionaslongasitdoesnʼtaffecttotheflight.
●Tightenupthewholescrewsandadjustthetappetgapasdiscussedlater.
9.Needleadjustment
●Beforeadjusttheneedlespleasesetbothneedlesasthestandardvalues.
●Inprinciple,thecarburetorshouldfirstachievepeakbyadjustingthemainneedle.

●Operatethethrottletolowuntiltheenginerunsstablywithanidlespeedaround1,500rpmbyadjustingtheslow
needlewitha⊖screwdrivercarefully.
●Onceidlespeedisset,openthethrottletofullgradually.Ifthespeedbecomessloworgoesupsuddenly,adjustthe
slowneedlecarefullyuntilthespeedriseslinearlyfromidlingtopeakbyfine-tuning.
●Afterthatperformtheprocessfromidlingtopeakquickly.Ifthespeedrisesnon-linearly,finetunethemainneedle.
●Ifthespeedaroundslow-midrangegetscoughorhesitating,finetunetheslowneedleandchecktheresponseas
well.Repeatthisfine-tuningandresponsecheckcarefullyuntiltheresponseimproves.
●Carbadjustmentisaffectedbymanyfactorssuchasprop,flightstyle,humidity,temperature,atmosphere,oil,plug,
fuel,andsoon.Pleasekeeptryingtofindthebestconditiontomatchyourplane.
●Thebestrichnessoftheair-fuelmixtureatslowspeeddependsontheflightstyle.Generally,Scaleflightrequires
stabilityinlowspeedsoslightlyleanconditionispreferable.Acrobaticflightrequiresquickresponsefromlowthrough
high,soslightlyrichconditionispreferable.
●Tipforadjustmentoftheslowneedleistomakeitasleanastheenginedoesnʼtgetstolewhenopenthethrottlequickly.
●Tokeeptheenginelifelonger,adjustthemainneedleasrichaspossibleintherangeitdoesnʼtaffecttotherunning.
●Sinceoverthrottlingofthemainneedleleadstoknockingoroverheatandhasanadverseeffectontheconnecting
rodandcamgear,adjustalittlericherthanpeak.
●Onceyounoticeabnormalvibrationorsoundduringthrottlingthemainneedle,justreturntoopentheneedle
immediately.
●Wheretheplaneachievespeakcompletelyattheattitudeofascentshouldbeaproperpeakoftheengineduring
flight.
10.Tappetadjustment
●Aftercompletinggroundbreak-inoroperatingtheenginefor1hour,adjust
tappetgaps(valveclearances)byfollowingproceduretocompensateinitial
wearing,whiletheengineiscold.
●#1cylindershouldbeadjustedfirst,next#3,finally#2cylindershouldfollow
inorderbythesameprocedure.
●Removethesparkplugandrockercoversfromthe#1cylinder.
●Iftheattachedgauge(limitgauge,t=0.1mm)comestobeinserted,gaphas
beenenlargedbeyondtheallowablelimit.
●Turnthepropslowlyforwardbyhanduntiltherockerarmofintakestops.Furtherturntheproptobringthepistonto
theTDC(TopDeadCenter)ofcompressionstroke.
●Usetheattachedwrenchandhexagonalwrenchtoadjustthegapsindefinitelyclosetozero.
●Afteradjustment,putonthesparkplugandturnthepropforwardtocheckifthecompressionisenough.
●Ifthegapislowerthan0,thevalveisopenedallthetimesothecompressionisnotgenerated(then,loosenthescrew
toreset).
●Ifthegapiscorrectandcompressionisenough,securelytighten(butnotexcessively)thelocknut.
●Dothesameadjustmentforthe#3-#2cylindersinorder.
●ForSAITOengines,thetappetgapisenlargedduringoperationduetothermalexpansionofthecylinder(madeof
aluminum).Thereforesetthegapindefinitelyclosetozerowhentheengineiscold.
●Astappetgapisoneofthemostimportantfactorsinthemaintenanceof4-strokeengines,occasionallycheckit.
11.Other
●Duringoperation,thescrewsallovertheenginecanbeloosenbyheatexpansionofmetal.Sopleasetightenupthem
occasionally.
●Justafterstartuptheengine,performwarmuprunninginrichconditionforabout1minute,andjustbeforestoprun
itatidlingfor1minutetocooldownaswell.
●Whenstoptheengineafterthefinalflightoftheday,besuretostopbycuttingfueltoremovefuelfromthecarbure-
tor.Andremovethefuelfromthetankandreserveitwithspecialcare.
●Whentheexhaustvalvegetsdullbycarbonorsludgeespeciallyincoldatmosphere,removetherockercoverand
applysomeanti-rustspraytotheexhaustvalvetohelpthevalvetomovesmoothly.
●Neveruseanti-rustspraythatcontainsorganicsolventwhichdegradesrubbersealsinsidetheengine.
●Sometimestheoiloozesfromeachjointorcommissurehoweveritʼsnoproblemonperformance.
●Notesforpurchasingparts:Pleasegiveorderstotheshopyoupurchasedfromwith“Enginemodel”,“PartNo.orpart

フレキシブルエキゾーストパイプの接続について
①写真を参考に、下の組み合わせで各シリンダーとエキゾーストパイプを接
続します。
接続ナットは、各パイプが回転する程度に仮止めにしておきます。
#1シリンダー → 最長のパイプ
#2シリンダー → 最短のパイプ
#3シリンダー → 中サイズのパイプ
②ブラケットとM3ボルト、ナットで、排気端を絞り込むようにまとめます。仮
止めに、一部紐で束ねておくとブラケットでまとめ易くなります。
③排気端よりもシリンダ側も、もう一つのブラケットで同様にまとめて固定し
ます。
④各シリンダーの接続ナットを本締めします。
●エキゾーストパイプと防火壁、インテークパイプが接触しないように固定
して下さい。
●下の写真を参考に、パイプの曲げがきつくなり過ぎないように取り付け
て下さい。
●曲がりのきつい箇所は、排気熱の高温により破損する可能性があります。

rarybindingthepipeswithabandwillhelptofixthebracket.

④Finallytightenthebushingnutstofixthepipescompletely.
●Fixthepipesnottotouchthefirewallandtheintakepipes.
●Referringtothepicturebelow,attachthepipeswithouttoomuch
bent.
