READ BEFORE OPERATING THIS UNIT!
OPERATOR SAFETY!
Understand the intended use of this equipment. It is designed to smooth grass playing
surfaces. It is not an all-terrain vehicle and should not be used as such!
1. Walk around the machine looking for damage or leaks. If there are no hydraulic leaks, do not open the
hydraulic tank cap. If it hasn’t leaked, the level will be fine.
2. Check engine oil & fuel level.
3. Climb on the seat, adjust the seat, and FASTEN THE SEAT BELT
4. BE SURE the roll/transport switch is in the roll position.
5. Quick look around to be sure no one is near the machine.
6. Start the engine. This machine has a FUEL INJECTED ENGINE, so THERE IS NO CHOKE.
7. Once the engine starts, raise the throttle to about ½ throttle.
8. Look at the rolls. They should be oriented as if the machine was going straight. This can be achieved
by turning the steering wheel until the front roll appears to be straight.
9. Now press the lower button to lower the front and rear wheels.
a. WITH ROLLS DOWN & WHEELS UP, THE UNIT WILL ROLL & SMOOTH GRASS PLAYING
SURFACES
b. WITH ROLLS UP & WHEELS DOWN, THE UNIT CAN BE TRANSPORTED ON WHEELS TO
THE NEXT PLAYING SURFACE TO BE ROLLED.
c. ALWAYS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE TRANSFORMING FROM TRANSPORT
TO ROLL OR VICE VERSA.
10. NOTE: The raise/lower wheels and wings in and out buttons should be pressed one at a time and not
in a jogging way. Just press the button until the function is complete. Jogging these buttons will cause
a safety circuit breaker to trip. Should this happen, relax for two minutes and try again.
11. Once the wheels are lowered and the machine is in the transport position, press the wings “in” button to
retract the roller wing into a travel position. NOTE: BE SURE no one is standing near the wings.
12. Now put the Roll/Transport switch into the transport position.
13. By pressing the foot pedal forward, the machine will move forward. NOTE: The further you press the
pedal, the faster the machine will go.
14. To stop or reverse travel of the machine, simply depress the pedal next to the forward pedal. This will
slow, stop and reverse the machine.
15. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE when operating this machine that the engine should be run at full RPM
and the machine speed should be controlled by depressing travel pedals.
16. ONCE YOU ARRIVE AT THE LOCATION TO BE ROLLED, press the Wings Out Button until wings
are both fully extended. Again, be sure no one is standing near the machine.
17. Press the raise wheels button. BE SURE the wheels are raised fully.
18. Put the Roll/Transport switch to roll position.
19. You are ready to roll.
20. CRUISE CONTROL:
a. Should only be used by an experienced operator.
b. NEVER use cruise control when rolling the greens. Only use on an open area such as fairways.
c. Moving forward in roll or transport, move the cruise control lever to the “on” position.
d. Press the pedal forward and you should feel the cruise control engage.
e. NOTE: There is a safety release pedal on the left side of the forward pedal and must be pulled
towards the operator for the cruise control to work. PRESS THE CRUISE DEACTIVATION
PEDAL TO RELEASE THE CRUISE CONTROL. (See the picture of the pedals on page 7 of
this manual for the location of the pedal.)
BE AWARE of terrain & surroundings! Potholes or steep hills could become a
danger. ALWAYS traverse hills “up & down”……………..NEVER across hills.

OPERATOR INSTRUCTIONS - Continued
The Salsco Tranz-Former Roller will be sent via common carrier. It could arrive in a box truck or an
open flatbed. Use caution when preparing to take the roller off of the trailer. Make sure the
trailer is level. If you do not have a dock, arrange to have a flatbed truck to back up to the trailer. (DO
NOT USE RAMPS!) Before driving the unit off of the trailer, disconnect any retainer devices
securing the roller to the trailer.
A. MAKE SURE the roller has gas and oil. The oil filter is accessible from the engine opening on
the left side of the roller. The gas tanks are on top behind the driver's seat.
B. MAKE SURE the wheels are down and the rolls are not touching the floor.
C. BECOME FAMILIAR with the roller controls.
Engine Control Panel:
1. The Transport/Roll switch is used to change from power to
the wheels or power to the rolls. This switch should be in the
Roll position when the unit
is not in use.
2. Throttle - NOTE: Run at full throttle
3. Engine Key - Starting
4. Accessory Outlet
5. Light Switch (4 LED lights for early
morning rolling)
6. Hour Meter
7. Top Control Panel is used to Raise/Lower Rolls
and Wheels.
Pedals:
1. Accelerator Pedal-Forward
2. Cruise Control Deactivation Pedal
3. Reverse Pedal
When you are ready to transport: Put the wheels down, bring rolls in, move switch to transport, and
press the accelerator pedal.
When you are ready to start rolling…Move the rolls out: Raise the wheels to the up position, then
move the switch to the roll position. You are now ready to roll.
Cruise control operation: To activate, press the speed control pedal to bring the unit to the desired
speed then move the lever to the on position the pedal will lock.
To cancel cruise control: Either move the cruise control handle to the off position and tap the
Accelerator Pedal (#1) or tap the Cruise Control Deactivation Pedal (#2). Now you will be able to
operate the Accelerator Pedal and cruise will be off.
NOTE: IF FOR ANY REASON THE CRUISE DOESN'T RELEASE, PRESS THE
PEDAL TO THE RIGHT OF THE SPEED CONTROL, AND THE LOCK PIN WILL
RELEASE.

SERVICE & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Check all hydraulic hoses DAILY, or before each scheduled use, for wear and any signs of chaffing.
REMINDER: Drive motor hoses should be treated as wear items and should be replaced on a yearly
basis.
2. Check all fittings for any signs of leaking DAILY, or before each scheduled use.
3. Check all grease fittings as listed below on a WEEKLY basis, and grease as necessary. Add grease
until grease leaks slightly from fitting.
a. Bearings on roll housings – qty. 6
b. Pivot bearing on main housing – qty. 6
4. Check the engine manufacturer’s manual for service and maintenance instructions.
5. Fill hydraulic tank to 4-6” below filler cap. Be sure to tighten cap until cap seals.
6. After approximately 1 WEEK of use, and then every 2 WEEKS thereafter, check drive chains…one on
each side on roller drive motor. Pivot motor to tighten chain. NOTE: Check and adjust the tension of
all drive motor chains on a regular basis.
a. There is a pusher bolt to aid in adjusting and must be adjusted along with the motor.
b. The chain should have ⅜” play. NEVER adjust the chain tight with no play.
7. Wash machine. Keep it clean. Should rust form on rolls, simply drive the unit on a rough area until
rolls are clean.
8. Oil & Filter Type – It has been determined that your Salsco Tranz-Former will perform better by using
a 25 micron filter. Salsco recommends using non-detergent hydraulic oil or 10W-40 equivalent. The oil
should have a viscosity rating of at least 122 SSU. While this is not a necessity, it will improve the
overall performance of your machine. Salsco is now using this filter and hydraulic oil on all of our
machines using hydraulics. Hydraulic oil should be changed after the first 150 hours, and every 500
hours thereafter.
9. There is a belly pan with three drain plugs. One plug allows you to drain the wash water out of the pan.
Another is for engine oil; and the third is for hydraulic oil. NOTE: Be careful to remove the connected
drain plug as the engine and hydraulic drains have plugs in the same area.
10. Check the rotary brushes to be sure they are in proper adjustment.
11. Check the roller chains to be sure they are in proper adjustment.

VISABLE AND A CONSTANT REMINDER TO ALL OPERATORS. REPLACEMENT SAFETY DECALS
MAY BE OBTAINED BY CALLING SALSCO @ 1-800-872-5726, OR THE DEALER IN YOUR AREA.
