3.2. Construction
Ram snow plow generally consists of linkage (1), operating assembly, which can be turned to up to 30°
on both sides thanks to hydraulic cylinders (2) (Fig. 2). Hydraulic cylinders are controlled by tractor’s
hydraulics through cross sweep valve (3). Plow has inclined shield consisting of two independent
segments (4), which incline when the machine drives onto an obstacle protecting working parts against
damage. Linkage is connected to the working unit by protective springs (5) with changeable hitch frame
(6) at the end.

In order to mount the plow on the tractor approach the plow so that the lower lifting arms of the three
point hitch are inserted into the mountings of the plow's suspension. Secure the mounting using pins
and cotter pins. Connect the upper part of the suspension system using a regulated tie and secure them
with pins and cotter pins.
Next, connect the hydraulic connections and the power plug along with the control switch. The rotation
axis of the moldboards should be perpendicular to the ground. After lifting the plow the support foot
should be lifted and secured with a pin. If the plow has been equipped with support wheels or skids
they should be adjusted to the correct height.
ATTENTION!
The manufacturer is not responsible for damages to the device resulting from
improper mounting of the plow on the TPH of the tractor. During operation
periodically check weather the plow is still properly mounted.
5.2. Plow control
After connecting the hydraulic system (B) (Fig. 6) take the electrical cable into the tractor's cabin and
insert the plug into the 12 V cigarette lighter outlet (I) (Fig. 7).
In order to lift/lower the plow we use the control lever (H) of the front TPH of the tractor. To rotate the
moldboard, use the hydraulic control lever (H) (Fig. 7). Turn the marker lights on or off insert or remove
the electrical cable plug from the cigarette lighter outlet.

5.4. Preparing the plow for operation
ATTENTION!
During storing of the machines in company SaMASZ the cylinders are protected
by special grease in order to secure them against weather which may cause their
premature wear. Before starting the operation excess grease should be removed
from the cylinders.
After correctly mounting the plow on the tractor it should be inspected and it should be determined if
the plow has a worn blade insert or loose bolts. If necessary replace worn elements and tighten the
bolts. If the plow is ready for use it should be placed in the desired position and plowing may be started.

5.5. Operation
ATTENTION!
While plowing the driving speed should be appropriate to existing road
conditions. During operation driving faster than 25 mph is forbidden.
ATTENTION!
Reversing is forbidden when working with a plow equipped with support wheels.
Support wheels do not rotate around the vertical axis and therefore reversing
may damage them.
5.6. Plow's allowable snow load and protections
Ram plows are middle class snow plows that are able to tackle snow mass of up to 6 tones. A
schematic of permissible load distribution has been presented in Tab. 4 positions a, b and c). Plows
often operate on uneven terrain and are subject to meeting immovable obstacles which the operator
often can not see, especially when covered by snow. For this reason the Smart plows have been
equipped with a moldboard which tilts back 65 which allows the plow to easily move over obstacles up
to 10 cm (Tab. 6). A condition of this safeguard is that the TPH must be set to the floating setting.

The table above is a demonstration to show the operator how suddenly the forces change depending
on speed and stopping distance.
The initial force under which the moldboard starts to tilt depends on the initial spring setting. The initial
spring setting can be adjusted in the range of 0to approximately 60 mm using the four tension bolts
located in the upper part of the moldboard. As evident in Tab. 6 this force is not constant as the
moldboard tilts but rather changes unevenly. The table above shows the working of the blade with the
initial spring setting at 30 mm. The greatest resistance force Fu is created in the moldboard between
tilt angles of 55oand 65ofrom starting position. By increasing the initial spring setting the Fu is also
increased along with the pressure on the entire plow, which can lead to damage of the plow especially
with greater operating speeds. If the initial spring setting is high then great care should be taken to

maintain low plowing speed, since in the event of encountering an obstacle this will allow the operator
to quickly stop the tractor.
Lateral coping is achieved thanks to the oval, vertical openings in the mountings of the front TPH of
municipal tractors. If the front TPH is not equipped with this solution then care should be taken during
plowing, especially on uneven terrain.
The forces which are created in the plow at the moment of hitting or grazing an obstacle have been

Ram plow is equipped with frame system protecting it against snow load greater than 6 tones and
sudden hitting a solid obstacle. Working principle is based on hit's energy absorption by partial or
complete tearing of 8 bolts M10 of 8.8 class, as well as and plastic deformation of hitch’s impact plates.
Additional protection is provided by fitting the plow with side safety bumpers protecting it against hits
from sides, e.g. hitting a curb.
