Set Up Your Tablet
The following topics provide information on setting up and turning on your tablet.
Note: During setup, you may want to install an optional microSD™ memory card (not included). See Install
a microSD Card.
Charge the Battery
You will need to charge the battery before using your tablet.
Note: This tablet has an integrated battery that cannot be removed by the user.
Battery Cautions
Storage: Avoid storing or leaving the tablet with no battery charge remaining. Saved information and
settings may become lost or changed, or the tablet may become unusable. Charge once every six
months before storing or leaving unused for a long period.
Caution: Use only charging devices and batteries approved by Samsung. Samsung accessories are
designed for your device to maximize battery life. Using other accessories may invalidate your warranty
and may cause damage.
1. Plug the USB cable into the USB charger/accessory port on the side of the tablet.
2. Plug the USB cable into the charging head, and then plug the charging head into an electrical
outlet.

SIM Card
The SIM card is an IC card containing a phone number and other customer information. Your tablet’s SIM
card is preinstalled and should only be accessed if directed by a customer service representative.
Handling a SIM Card
Keep the following in mind when handling a SIM card:
● You are responsible for any damage caused by inserting the SIM card in another brand IC card
reader, etc. Sprint is not responsible in such a case.
● Always keep the IC chip clean.
● Wipe clean with a dry, soft cloth.
● Avoid applying labels. May damage SIM card.
● See instructions included with SIM card for handling.
● The SIM card is the property of Sprint.
● The SIM card is replaceable (at cost) in case of loss/damage.
● Return the SIM card to Sprint when canceling subscription.
● Returned SIM cards are recycled for environmental purposes.
● Note that SIM card specifications and performance may change without notice.
● It is recommended that you keep a separate copy of information that is stored on SIM card. Sprint
is not responsible for damages from stored information that is lost.
● Always follow emergency procedures to suspend service if your SIM card or tablet (SIM card
inserted) is lost or stolen. For details, contact Customer Service.
● Always power off the tablet before inserting/removing the SIM card.
Install the SIM Card
Follow these instructions to insert a SIM card. Remember to power off your tablet before inserting a SIM
card.
Note: Your device's SIM card is preinstalled. These instructions are for reference only.
Your SIM card contains your account details, such as your PIN, available optional services, and many
other features.
Warning: The SIM card information and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratching or bending, so
be careful when handling, inserting, or removing the card. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small
children.

1. Open the SIM card slot cover on the side of the tablet.
2. Make sure the gold contacts of the SIM card face downward and that the notched corner of the
card faces as shown.
3. Carefully slide the SIM card into the SIM card slot (as shown) until the card locks into place.
4. Close the SIM card slot cover.
Turn Your Tablet On
Use the Power/Lock key to turn your tablet on.
■ Press and hold the Power/Lock key to turn the tablet on.
 If your tablet is activated, it will turn on, search for Sprint service, and begin the setup
application.
 If your tablet is not yet activated, see Activate Your Tablet for more information.
Activate Your Tablet
Follow the instructions below to activate your tablet if it has not already been activated. Depending on
your account or how and where you purchased your tablet, it may be ready to use or you may need to
activate it on your Sprint account.
● If you purchased your tablet at a Sprint Store, it is probably activated and ready to use.
● If you received your tablet in the mail and it is for a new Sprint account or a new line of service, it
is designed to activate automatically.
 When you turn the tablet on for the first time, you should see a Hands Free Activation
screen, which may be followed by a PRL Update screen and a Firmware Update screen.
Follow the prompts to continue.
● If you received your tablet in the mail and you are activating a new tablet for an existing number
on your account (you are swapping tablets), you can activate on your computer online or directly
on your tablet.

 Activate on your computer:
• Go to sprint.com/activate and complete the instructions to activate your tablet.
 Activate on your tablet:
• Turn on your new tablet. (Make sure the old one is turned off.) Your tablet will
automatically attempt Hands-Free Activation.
• Tap Activate to override auto-activation and start the manual activation wizard.
• Follow the prompts to complete the activation process.
If your tablet is still not activated, visit sprint.com/support for assistance. If you do not have access to the
Internet, call Sprint Customer Service at 1-888-211-4727.
Tip: Do not press the Power/Lock key while the tablet is being activated. Pressing the Power/Lock key
cancels the activation process.
Note: If you are having any difficulty with activation, visit sprint.com/support.
Complete the Setup
After you turn on your device and activate it, your device displays a Welcome screen. From the Welcome
screen, follow the prompts to set up features and preferences on your device.
Note: In some cases, you may be able to complete the setup process before your device has been
activated on your Sprint account.
1. At the Welcome screen, follow the instructions to configure your device’s basic options, such as
language, accessibility, date and time, Wi-Fi® connections, location settings, and more.
 Google Account: Many of your device’s applications, such as Gmail™, Google Maps™,
Google Hangouts™, and the Google Play™ store, require a Google Account. To use these
applications, you must set up your Google Account on your device. Complete the steps to
sign in to your current Google Account, or sign up for a new Google Account.
 Samsung Account: Your Samsung Account is used for access to Samsung apps and
services, such as Samsung Hub, Samsung Apps, Samsung Link, and much more. Complete
the steps to sign in to your current Samsung Account, or sign up for a new Samsung
Account.
2. Tap Finish to complete setup.
Note: During or after setup, you may also see screens informing you of activation and of software and
other updates. Some of these may require your device to restart. Follow the prompts to continue and
complete the setup processes.

Access Instructions on the Tablet
These topics will help you find help on your new tablet and will introduce the basics of using your tablet's
touchscreen if you are a new user.
Access Help
Use the tablet's Help menu to learn about your tablet.
1. From home, tap Apps > Help.
2. Tap a topic to view its contents, or tap Search to search for a topic.
Get Support from Sprint Zone
In addition to your tablet's built-in Help menu, you can also access support for your tablet and service
through the preloaded Sprint Zone app.
1. From home, tap Apps > Sprint Zone.
2. From the Sprint Zone main page, tap Support.
3. Tap a topic to view its contents.
Sprint Account Information and Help
Find out about account passwords and information about managing your account and finding help.
Sprint Account Passwords
You will need to create passwords to protect access to your personal account information and your data
services account. As a Sprint customer, you enjoy unlimited access to all your information.
Account User Name and Password
If you are the account owner, you will create an account user name and password when you sign on to
sprint.com/mysprint. (Click Register and follow the prompts to get started.) If you are not the account
owner (if someone else receives the bill for your Sprint service), you can get a sub-account password at
sprint.com/mysprint.
Data Services Password
With your Sprint device, you may elect to set up an optional data services password to control access and
authorize purchases.

people and information that are important to you. The following topics will introduce the basic functions

Your Tablet’s Layout

Light sensor
Detect the ambient light level, such as when setting screen brightness
when Automatic brightness is enabled, and when using the Camera.
Front camera
Takes pictures and records videos while facing the screen, and allows
you to video conference.

Return you to the previous screen, or close a dialog box, options
menu, the notification panel, or keyboard.

Caution: The SIM Card should never be removed unless you are instructed to remove it by authorized
service personnel.
Caution: Inserting an accessory into the incorrect port may damage the tablet.
Turn Your Tablet On and Off
The instructions below explain how to turn your tablet on and off.
Turn Your Tablet On
■ Press and hold the Power/Lock key.
Turn Your Tablet Off
1. Press and hold the Power/Lock key to open the Device options menu.
2. Tap Power off > Power off to turn the tablet off. Your screen remains blank while your tablet is
off (unless the battery is charging).
Turn Your Screen On and Off
Your tablet allows you to quickly turn the screen off when not in use and to turn it back on and unlock it
when you need it.
Turn the Screen Off When Not in Use
■ To quickly turn the screen off, press the Power/Lock key.
To save battery power, the tablet automatically turns off the screen after a certain period of time when
you leave it idle. You will still be able to receive messages while the tablet’s screen is off.
Note: For information on how to adjust the time before the screen turns off, see Screen Timeout.

Turn the Screen on and Unlock It
1. To turn the screen on, press the Power/Lock key.
2. Swipe the screen in any direction to unlock the screen.
 If you have set up a screen lock, you will be prompted to draw the pattern or enter the
password or PIN. For more information, see Lock Screen.
Touchscreen Navigation
Your tablet’s touchscreen lets you control actions through a variety of tap gestures.
Tap
When you want to type using the onscreen keyboard, select items such as application and settings icons,
or press onscreen buttons, simply tap them with your finger.
