personal protective equipment.
t Pull up the lever with your foot.
y The device is secured against moving.

16 Sartoclear®Pilot Filter Holder
Installation
4.5 Unlocking Fastening Rollers to move the Device
To move the device, the fastening rollers must be unlocked.
Procedure
t CAUTION Danger of crushing when operating the fastening rollers!
Wear personal protective equipment.
t Press down on the lever with your foot.
y The device is now mobile.
4.6 Starting up the Hydraulic Pump
t When the hydraulic pump is used for the first time, open the ventilation screw (1)
by one turn.
y This allows aeration and venting of the hydraulic tank.
Once the work is completed or at the latest before transport, screw the ventilation
screw (1) back on tightly.

Sartoclear®Pilot Filter Holder 17
Operation
5 Operation
5.1 Moving Holding Clamps
Procedure
t Pull the holding clamp (1) halfway up.
t Move the holding clamp (1) along the pull rod to the desired position.
t Allow the holding clamp (1) to fall to the desired depth.
y The holding clamp is in the new position.
5.2 Operating the Hydraulic Pump
5.2.1 Releasing the Hydraulic Pump
Prerequisites
− The hydraulic pump is operational (see Chapter "4.6 Starting up the Hydraulic
Pump", page 16).
Procedure
t Turn the needle valve clockwise. This closes the needle valve of the hydraulic
cylinder.
t NOTICE Danger of damage to the hydraulic pump due to retained pressure in the
hydraulic piston of the hydraulic pump! Release the hydraulic pump after the
filter cartridge is compressed.
t Open the release valve on the hydraulic pump. To do so, turn the release valve
counterclockwise.
y This builds up pressure in the hydraulic piston.
t CAUTION Danger of injury due to upright pump lever! Push the pump lever
down into its original position.
1
1
1

18 Sartoclear®Pilot Filter Holder
Operation
5.2.2 Releasing the Hydraulic Cylinder
Prerequisites
− The filter cartridges have been depressurized.
− The filter cartridges have been drained of any residue.
Procedure
t If required: Place the collecting tank under the filter holder.
t Open the release valve on the hydraulic pump. To do so, turn the release valve
counterclockwise.
t CAUTION Danger of crushing from the moving hydraulic cylinder! Open the
needle valve on the hydraulic cylinder. To do so, turn the needle valve clockwise.
y The hydraulic cylinder releases and draws back.
t Wait until the pressure gauge display reads zero and the hydraulic cylinder is
fully loosened.
t Close the needle valve. To do so, turn the needle valve clockwise.
5.2.3 Checking the Tensioning Pressure
The tensioning pressure applied during compression may reduce during the filtration
process, with the result that the filter cartridge is not sufficiently compressed.
Reduced tensioning pressure may negatively impact on the filtration performance.
Procedure
t During the filtration process, check regularly whether the required tensioning
pressure is being achieved (see operating instructions for the filter cartridge).
To do so, observe the pressure gauge display.
t If required: Re-adjust the filter cartridges (see Chapter "5.3.3 Tensioning the
Filter Cartridges", page 21).
5.3 Inserting and Tensioning the Filter Cartridges
This chapter provides examples of how 4 filter cartridges are inserted.
5.3.1 Inserting the Filter Cartridges
NOTICE
Danger of damage to the filter cartridge!
Improper handling of the filter cartridge during installation may damage the
cartridge.
t Only hold the filter cartridges by the handles.
t Only place the filter cartridge on clean surfaces.
t Do not apply any pressure to the filter cartridge. Do not allow the filter cartridge
to fall and do not shake it.
t Take great care when inserting the filter cartridge.
NOTICE
Danger of damage to the filtration system!
t The filtration system must not be operated without a filter cartridge.
Prerequisites
− The hydraulic cylinder is released (see Chapter "5.2.2 Releasing the Hydraulic
Cylinder", page 18).
− There are no used filter cartridges in the filter holder.

Sartoclear®Pilot Filter Holder 19
Operation
Moving the Pressure Plate and Clamping Plate to the Outermost Stop
Procedure
Depending on the number of filter cartridges to be inserted, the distances between
the pressure plate and clamping plate have to be adjusted in relation to each other.
NOTICE Danger of damage to the hydraulic cylinder! Never pressurize the hydraulic
cylinder without inserted cartridges. Since the hydraulic cylinder only has a limited
stroke, the filter cartridges must be positioned very tightly together.
t Using the holding clamps, position the plates on the pull rods:
t Move the holding clamps on the clamping plate to the pull rod’s outermost
position (1) (see Chapter "5.1 Moving Holding Clamps", page 17).
t Repeat the process with the second pull rod (2).
t Push the clamping plate (3) on to the holding clamps.
Moving the Pull Rods to the Outermost Stop
Procedure
t Move the outer holding clamps (1) on the two pull rods to the respective
left-hand position (see Chapter 5.1, page 17).
t Move both pull rods (2) as far as the stop on the right at the same time.
t Move the inner holding clamps on the two pull rods to the respective left-hand
position (3).
Inserting the Cartridges
Procedure
t NOTICE Danger of damage to the filtration system! If the manifold plate is
aligned incorrectly, the flow rate is disturbed by the filtration process, which
may cause the filtrate to leak or cause damage to the manifold plate and filter
cartridges.
t Place the manifold plate (1) for the filtered solution inlet according to its
labeling (see operating instructions for the manifold plate) onto the bottom
guide rods.
t The channels (2) must be aligned in the direction of the filter cartridges.
t Push the manifold plate onto the pressure plate.

20 Sartoclear®Pilot Filter Holder
Operation
t Insert the filter cartridges one after the other, according to their labeling, on
the bottom guide rods. Pay attention to the alignment (up / down) of the filter
cartridges (see operating instructions for the filter cartridges).
t Push the filter cartridges towards each other until there is no longer any free
space between them.
t Check the fit of the filter cartridge. The notches of the filter cartridge must be
positioned on the bottom guide rods of the filter holder.
t Ensure that the filter cartridge is seated evenly and flush inside the filter holder.
t Place the manifold plate (1) for the filtrate outlet according to its labeling onto
the bottom guide rods.
t Push the manifold plate onto the filter cartridges.
t Push the clamping plate (1) onto the manifold plate.
t Position the holding clamps as closely as possible to the clamping plate (1)
(see Chapter "5.1 Moving Holding Clamps", page 17).
Move the Filter Cartridges Towards the Pressure Plate
Procedure
t Move the inner holding clamps (1) on the two pull rods to the respective right-
hand position (see Chapter "5.1 Moving Holding Clamps", page 17).
t Move the filter cartridges as close as possible to the pressure plate by pulling on
both pull rods (2) at the same time. The cylinder stroke should be kept as small as
possible.
t Move the outer holding clamps (3) on the two pull rods to the right-hand
position.
