1Introduction 1
1.1 Superordinate assembly instruction
This assembly instruction is only valid in conjunction with the associated operating
instructions from the module supplier.
1.2 General Information
Instructions
Observe the notes and regulations in this assembly instruction and in the top-level
operating instruction of the module supplier.
Please make sure that every person who is commissioned to work on the torque limiter
has read and understood these instructions prior to handling the torque limiter and
observes all of the points.
Only the knowledge of these instructions can avoid faults on the torque limiter and ensure
fault-free and safe operation. Non-adherence to the instructions can cause product or
property damage or personal injury. Flender does not accept any liability for damage or
operating failures that are due to non-adherence to these instructions.

Explanation regarding Machinery Directive 2006/42/EG
The torque limiter described here are “components” in accordance with the Machinery
Directive and do not require a declaration of incorporation.
Working on the torque limiter
Only carry out work on the torque limiter when it is not in operation and is not under load.
Secure the drive unit against being switched on accidentally. Attach a notice to the switch
stating clearly that work is being carried out on the torque limiter. Ensure that the entire
unit is not under load.
1.3 Intended use
Only use the torque limiter according to the conditions specified in the service and delivery
contract and the technical data in the annex. Deviating operating conditions are considered
improper use. The user or owner of the machine or plant is solely liable for any resulting
damage. When using the torque limiter please specifically observe the following:
•Do not make any modifications to the torque limiter that go beyond the permissible
machining described in these instructions. This also applies to touch protection facilities.
•Only use original spare parts from Flender. Flender only accepts liability for original
spare parts from Flender. Other spare parts are not tested and approved by Flender.
Non-approved spare parts may possibly change the design characteristics of the torque
limiter and thus impact active and/or passive safety. Flender will accept no liability or
warranty whatsoever for damage occurring as a result of the use of non-approved
spare parts. The same applies to any accessories that were not supplied by Flender.
•Do not use the torque limiter in potentially explosive atmospheres.
•If you have any queries, please contact our customer service (see Service and support

The SECUREX torque limiters described here are universally applicable, load-limiting
machine elements that are used to protect the system and its components.
Application
The SECUREX torque limiters are designed for use throughout the mechanical engineering
industry.
The SECUREX torque limiters are used to protect the machine elements of the drive train
from overload when load peaks occur.
Design
The diagrams show the various types with their constituent parts and their part numbers.
For detailed information on the dimensions see technical data (page 29).

Check the delivery for damage and for completeness. Report any damage and/or missing
parts to Flender immediately.
The torque limiter is delivered in preassembled groups.
3.1 Transport of the torque limiter
WARNING
Severe personal injury due to improper transport
Severe personal injury due to falling components or due to crushing. Damage to torque
limiters possible due to use of unsuitable transport means.
•Only use lifting equipment and load suspension devices with sufficient load-bearing
capacity for transport.
•Pay attention to the symbols on the packaging.
If not specifically contractually agreed otherwise, the packaging complies with the HPE
Packaging Directive.

3.2 Storage of torque limiter
Unless ordered otherwise, the torque limiter is delivered in preserved condition and can be
stored for up to 12 months in a dry and dust-free storage room.

The surface of the slip element in contact with the friction linings must have a surface
roughness of Ra 3.2 or better.

DANGER
Danger due to bursting of the torque limiter
The torque limiter may burst if not used as intended. There I danger to life due to flying
fragments.
•Use the torque limiter as intended
Note
Information about the assembly of the torque limiter
•Only use undamaged components for the assembly of the torque limiter.
•Follow the assembly sequence.
•Please ensure that there is sufficient space at the assembly location and that the
location is tidy and clean in order to be able to assemble and maintain the torque
limiter without any risk.
•If a dimension drawing has been created for the torque limiter, please observe the
information it contains as a matter of priority.
4.1 Assembly
Procedure
1. Please ensure that the surfaces to be joined are in perfect condition. Is the case of
slight damage (e.g. burrs, scratches), rework these with a whetstone or very fine
emery paper, taking the surface quality into account.
2. Remove the set screw (2) so far out of the hub that no collision with the key or the
shaft is possible.
3. Clean the bore and the shaft end as well as the friction surfaces of the slip element (12).
4. Loosen the clamping nut (3) and unscrew it completely. Gradually remove all parts up
to and including the first friction lining (4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11).
5. Put the slip element (12) on the raceway (5).
6. Now reassemble all previously removed parts (4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) in their original order.
Make sure that the spring washer are aligned correctly. Screw on the clamping nut (3)
only slightly until it is in contact.
7. Check the centric fit of alle components, especially of the outer friction lining, and
correct it if necessary.
8. Coat the bore of the hub (1) and the shaft with MoS2 assembly paste (e.g. Microgleit LP
405).

9. Place the preassembled torque limiter on the shaft so that the shaft end and hub end
are aligned.
10. Secure the hub of the torque limiter with the set screw (2) by tightening it with the
specific tightening torque TA(see section Speeds, geometry data und weights (page
29)).
4.2 Set torque
WARNING
Severe personal injury and property damage due to improper use
Der the specific range for settings for the limiting torque must not be exceeded.
Unpredictable behavior and malfunction of the torque limiter may result and cause
personal injury and property damage.
Note
Tolerance of the limiting torque
Material and surface quality of the sliding element, environmental influences and
variations in the assembly are subject of tolerances und thus cause a certain scatter in the
accuracy of the limiting torque to be set. If there is a requirement for increased accuracy
of the limiting torque, the torque limiter should be slipped in during initial adjustment or
replacement of the friction linings. For this purpose, observe the information in the section
Slipping in of the friction linings (page 19).
Note
Wear of friction linings
The friction linings of the torque limiters are subject to a certain amount of wear.
Depending on the slipping frequency, this makes occasional readjustment of the limiting
torque necessary.

1. Secure the shaft or the torque limiter against rotation.
2. Tightening the clamping nut (3) until it rests against the locking plate (8).
3. This is the zero position. Mark the current position of the clamping nut (3) with a
suitable marker.
4. Turn the clamping nut (3) according to the required torque limit from table 4-1
5. Bend one of the tabs of the locking plate (8) into the groove provided in the clamping
nut (3) to prevent the clamping nut from loosening on its own.

1. Secure the shaft/the torque limiter against rotation.
2. Screw the adjusting screw (10) into the clamping nut (3) until they make contact with
the head.
3. Tighten the clamping nut (3) until the screw heads are in contact with the centering disc
(9).

4. If individual screw heads of adjusting screws (10) are not yet in contact, unscrew them
accordingly so that all adjusting screws (10) are in contact with the centering disc (9).
5. This is the position. Mark the current position of all adjusting screws (10) with a suitable
marker.
6. Tighten the adjusting screws (10) according to the required torque limiter from table 4-1
When doing so, count every 1/6 turns. Proceed step by step so that each screw is not
tightened more than 4/6 turns at a time.

1. Secure the shaft/the torque limiter against rotation.
2. Turn back the adjusting screws (10) until the spring washer (7) are in contact with the
clamping nut (3).
Caution: Do not apply too much pressure here, otherwise the circlip will be pressed off
the adjusting screw.
3. Tighten the clamping nut (3) until it is in contact with the thrust washer.
4. If individual adjusting screws (10) are not yet in contact, screw them in further so that
all adjusting screws (10) are in contact with the thrust washer (6).
5. This is the zero position. Mark the current position of all adjusting screws (10) with a
suitable marker.
6. Tighten the adjusting screws (10) according to the required torque limit from table 4-1.
When doing so, count every 1/6 turns. Proceed step by step so that each screw is not
tightened more than 4/6 turns at a time.
7. Secure the clamping nut (3) by tightening the locking screw (11) (M8; TA=21 Nm).

4.3 Disassembly and exchange of wear parts
The friction linings of the torque limiter are subject to continuous wear, which requires
occasional replacement of the linings depending on the tripping frequency.
Procedure
1. Loosen the clamping nut (3) by first bending up the locking plate (8) or loosening the
locking screw (11), depending on the size. Now loosen all adjusting screws (10), if
present, until the spring washer (7) are force-free. Then loosen the clamping nut (3).
2. Depending on the mounting position of the torque limiter on the shaft, it may have to be
dismantled from the shaft to replace the friction linings (4). If this is necessary, loosen
the set screw (2) and slide the hub axially off the shaft.
3. Now unscrew the clamping nut (3) completely from the hub thread. Gradually remove
all parts up to and including both friction linings (4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11,12).
4. Clean the contact surfaces of the chute element (12) and replace the worn friction
linings with the new linings.
5. Now reassemble all previously removed parts (4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) in their original
order. Make sure that the spring washer are correctly aligned. Turn the clamping nut
(3) only slightly up to contact.
6. Check the centric fit of all components, especially the outer friction lining, and correct it
if necessary.
7. If you have disassembled the torque limiter from the shaft, clean the bore of the hub (1)
and the shaft. Then coat the bore of the hub (1) and the shaft with MoS2 assembly paste
(e.g. Microgleit LP 405) and place the preassembled torque limiter on the shaft so that
the shaft and hub ends are aligned. Secure the hub of the torque limiter with the set
screw (2) by tightening it to the specified tightening torque TA(see section Speeds,
geometry data und weights (page 29)).

5.1 Slipping in of the friction linings
Environmental influences such as surface roughness, material pairing, or even longer
downtimes can have an impact on the accuracy of the set torque. Although these influences
cannot be prevented but can be reduced by slipping in of the friction linings.
If a higher accuracy of the limiting torque is required, it is recommended to let the torque
limiter slip in at low speed for to 100 to 200 turns at approx. 25% of the maximum
permissible torque. This process results in a uniform pattern of the friction linings.
