Warning and
Safety Information
Improper use or handling can
result in property damage and/or
personal injury. To prevent damage
to the equipment, read these
operating instructions thoroughly
before using your scale. Keep these
instructions in a safe place.
The manufacturer shall not be held
liable for damage caused by failure
to observe this warning and safety
information or the instructions.
When you use electrical equipment
in installations and under ambient
conditions requiring higher safety
standards, you must comply with the
provisions specified in the applicable
regulations for installation in your
country.
Follow the instructions below
to ensure safe and trouble-free
operation of your scale:
!Make sure that the voltage rating
printed on the power supply is
identical to your local AC power
rating.
– The only way to turn the scale
power off completely is to
disconnect the power supply from
the wall outlet (mains supply).
!Handle the equipment with care
as required by the IP protection
ratings. The environment in
which they are used must also be
protected.
!Protect the power supply as
required by the IP65 standard
(dust-tight and washdown-
resistant).
!The housing of the YPS02-X...
power supply is made of AlMgSi
and should be handled
accordingly.
!Cabling: The casing on the po-
wer cable is made of
– rubber (on models YPS02-Z...,
-XDR, -XKR, -XAS)
– PVC (on model YPS02-XGR)
All other cables connecting
the weighing equipment and
peripheral devices, as well
as the wiring inside the devices,
are cased in PVC materials.
Chemicals that corrode these
materials must be kept away
from these cables.
!Use only cabling and extensions
approved by Sartorius, as these
are made in accordance with
the restrictions on cable lengths
imposed by the capacitance
and inductance (see the attached
certificate of conformity) and the
requirements for electromagnetic
compatibility.
!Factory Series equipment may
only be operated in an ambient
temperature range between
0°C and +40°C (+32°F to
+104°F). Make sure there is
sufficient ventilation to prevent
heat from building up in the
equipment.
!The equipment must be used
indoors only.
!Clean the equipment in
accordance with the instructions
(see the section entitled “Care
and Maintenance”).
!Avoid build-up of static electricity
on the dust cover and in glass
parts (see the section entitled
“Care and Maintenance”).
!Have the equipment inspected
at appropriate intervals for
correct functioning and safety by
a trained technician (for instance,
inspection of the cables for
damage).
!When cleaning your scale,
make sure that no liquid enters
the scale housing; use only a
slightly moistened cloth for
cleaning the scale.
!Using the scale in a network:
No more than 8 scales may
be connected, using a YDI01-Z
Zener barrier, to the RS-485
interface port.
!Make sure all operating
personnel are trained to recog-
nize malfunctions and to take
the appropriate corrective
or preventive measures (such as
disconnecting the equipment
from power).
!The equipment meets the
requirements for electromagnetic
compatibility. Avoid interference
stronger than that allowed for
in the relevant standards (see also
the section entitled “Overview;
Declaration of Conformity” in the
operating instructions).
Do not open the scale housing. If
the seal is broken, the manufacturer’s
warranty becomes null and void.
!If you use the scale in a
hazardous area or location out-
side Germany, you must comply
with the national electrical code
and applicable safety regulations
of your country. Ask your local
Sartorius office or dealer for
information on the legal regula-
tions applicable in your country.
Warning:
!Any tampering with this scale by
anyone other than authorized
persons will result in forfeiture of
the approval for use in the stated
hazardous area/location and
of all claims under the
manufacturer’s warranty.

Storage and Shipping
Conditions
Allowable storage temperature:
0°C ...+40°C (+32°F ...+104°F)
– Unpackaged scales and weighing
platforms exposed to strong
vibrations may lose accuracy;
very strong shocks may have
a negative effect on the safety
of the equipment. The peripheral
equipment is more rugged.
– Do not expose the scale to
extreme temperatures, moisture,
shocks or vibration.
Unpacking the Scale
●After unpacking the scale, check
it immediately for any visible
damage as a result of rough
handling during shipment.
$If this is the case, proceed as
directed in the chapter entitled
“Care and Maintenance,” under
the section on “Safety Inspection.”
$Note:
The display and control
unit is attached to the scale
by a connecting cable.
$It is a good idea to save the box
and all parts of the packaging
until you have successfully installed
your scale. Only the original
packaging provides the best
protection for shipment.
$Before packing your scale,
unplug all connected cables
to prevent damage.
$The strip of cardboard between
the display and control unit and
the weighing platform is important
for protecting the equipment
during shipment.

for further information. If available,
complete the warranty registration
card, indicating the date of
installation, and return the card to
your Sartorius office or dealer.

Installation Instructions
The Sartorius Factory scales
are designed to provide reliable
weighing results under normal
ambient conditions. When choosing
a location to set up your scale,
observe the following so that you
will be able to work with added
speed and accuracy:
– Set up the scale on a stable,
even surface
– Avoid placing the scale in close
proximity to a heater or otherwise
exposing the scale to heat or
direct sunlight
– Protect the scale from drafts that
come from open windows or doors
– Avoid exposing the scale to ex-
treme vibrations during weighing
– Protect the scale from aggressive
chemical vapors
– Do not expose the scale to ex-
treme moisture over long periods
Turn off the equipment when
not in use.
Conditioning the Scale
Moisture in the air can condense
on the surfaces of a cold scale
whenever it is brought into a
substantially warmer place. If you
transfer the scale to a warmer area,
make sure to condition it for about
2 hours at room temperature,
leaving it unplugged from AC power.
Afterwards, if you keep the scale
connected to AC power, the
continuous positive difference in
temperature between the inside of
the scale and the outside will
practically rule out the effects of
moisture condensation.
Seal on Scales Verified for Use in
Legal Metrology in the EU*:
EU legislation requires that a con-
trol seal be affixed to the verified
scale. The control seal consists of
a sticker with the “Sartorius” logo.
This seal will be irreparably dam-
aged if you attempt to remove it.
If the seal is broken, the validity of
verification will become void and
you must have your scale reverified.

Setting Up the Display and Control Unit
You can set up the display and control unit in one of 3 ways:
– on the column
– on the retainer, which is then fastened to the front of the weighing platform
– on the retainer, separate from the scale
Models FC…BBE, FC…CCE
Mounting the Display and Control Unit on the Column
●Use the two Phillips head screws supplied to fasten the display
and control unit to the column
●Attach the column to the weighing platform using the screw supplied
●Fasten the connecting cable to the column using the two clips and slide
the cable into the cable channel under the weighing platform

Fastening the Display and Control Unit to the Front of the Weighing Platform
or Mounting It Separately
§Turn the weighing platform over; place it on a cushioned surface to avoid
damaging the weighing system
§Fasten the retainer to the display and control unit using the 2 Phillips head
screws supplied (1) (M 4x12 mm)
§Fastening the display and control unit to the front of the weighing platform:
Fasten the retainer to the weighing platform using the 2 Phillips head
screws supplied (2) (M4x12 mm)
§Press the cable into the raceway (channel) as shown in the diagram on the left
> Cable length: 55 cm (approx. 21 in.)

§Use the two Phillips head screws (M4 x 8) supplied to fasten the display
and control unit to the column
§Attach the column to the weighing platform using the screw (M 4x20)
supplied
§Fasten the connecting cable to the column using the three clips

Fastening the Display and Control Unit to the Front of the Weighing Platform
§Turn the weighing platform over and place it on a cushioned surface to
prevent damage to the weighing system
§Remove the column retainer
§Fasten the retainer to the display and control unit using the 2 Phillips head
screws supplied (1) (M4x8 mm)
§Fastening the display and control unit to the front of the weighing platform:
Fasten the retainer to the weighing platform using the 2 Phillips head
screws supplied (2) (M4x8 mm)
§Press the cable into the raceway (channel)
§Replace the cover on the cable raceway (1)
§Close the four bore holes using the caps supplied (2)
Remote Operation of the Display and Control Unit
§Turn the weighing platform over and place it on a cushioned surface to
prevent damage to the weighing system
§Remove the column retainer from the weighing platform
§Close the four bore holes using the caps supplied (2)
> Cable length: at least 80 cm (approx. 31.5 in.)
$To order a longer cable, see the section entitled “Accessories”
Adjusting the Angle of the Display and Control Unit
(only with Accessory YDH01F)
§Tilt the display and control unit to the desired position and tighten the
knurled thumb screw to hold it in place
FCA Models:
Connecting the Weighing Platform
§Plug the connecting cable (male connector) into the socket on the rear
panel of the display and control unit. Then tighten the knurled collar
by hand.

Preparing the Scale
Scales with a Round Weighing Pan
§Place the components listed below on the scale in the order given:
– Dust cover
!To use the dust cover on the scale in a hazardous area or location,
make sure to set up and operate the scale so as to prevent the danger
of explosion caused by static electricity. Please read the warning on the
dust cover.
– Place the shield disk on the scale and turn it counter-clockwise until it stops
and is secured in place
– Pan support
– Weighing pan
– Glass draft shield cylinder
– Draft shield cover
Scales with a Rectangular Load Plate
§Place the components listed below on the scale in the order given:
– Dust cover (peel off the backing from the adhesive surface)
!To use the dust cover on the scale in a hazardous area or location,
make sure to set up and operate the scale so as to prevent the danger
of explosion caused by static electricity. Please read the warning on the
dust cover.
– Weighing pan/load plate draft shield (depends on model)
– Load plate

Removing the Transport Locking Devices on FCA … IGG Models
$To transport the weighing platform, lift it on both long sides
$Remove the plastic bag, packaging strips and foam
§Set up the weighing platform in the vicinity of your work area and remove
the load plate
Proceed as follows with the red-coded transport locking device:
§Remove screw 1
§Loosen screw 2 and turn the angular brace by 180°; refasten screw 2
Refasten screw 1 to the lever
Important note on transporting the weighing platform: Before transporting the
weighing platform, refasten the transport locking device in place.
Wall Mounting
The display and control unit must be located outside the hazardous
area/location to mount it on a wall.
$Place the front panel of the unit on a cushioned surface.
§Remove the screws.
§Remove the front panel and turn 180°.
§Refasten the screws.
!Be sure that you do not pinch any wires when tightening the screws.
!Make sure to correctly fasten the protective IP gaskets so that they
are leak-tight.

Connecting the Scale to AC Power
!Before putting the scale into operation, make sure that the power cable
is correctly connected to the electrical outlet (mains supply); it is especially
important to make sure the grounding cable is attached to the housing
of the power supply. All devices used must be connected to the
equipotential bonding conductor via the retainers provided on
each device. Installation must be carried out by a certified electrician
according to the valid standards of technology.
!Before putting the equipment into operation for the first time, make sure
that the area of installation is not hazardous. If the equipment shows any
signs of malfunction as a result of damage during shipment (display
remains blank, display not backlit even with a weight readout, weight
value not repeatable, readout does not stabilize, etc.), disconnect the
equipment from AC power and contact a Sartorius service technician.
!YPS02-X... flameproof power supply:
– Install both cables so that they are stationary and mechanically
protected (Exception: YPS02-XKR (North American Version)
– Flexible installation of cables with threaded fasteners can be carried
out on request
§Check the voltage rating and the plug design
– If they do not match the rating or standard you use, contact your Sartorius
office or dealer
!Use only original Sartorius power supplies:
– YPS02-Z.. (for use outside hazardous areas/locations)
– YPS02-X.. (for use within hazardous areas/locations)
!To operate the scale in a hazardous area or location, please comply
with the following:
– Currently valid standards and regulations for installation of explosion-
protected equipment in such areas
– Installation must be carried out and checked by a certified electrician
!Within the hazardous area/location, the following equipment must be
connected to a main grounding (earthing) terminal (equipotential bonding
conductor):
– Scale
– Power supply
– Zener barrier

§Plug the female connector of the blue intrinsically safe power supply
cable into the male socket on the scale.
Secure this connection by tightening the knurled collar.
!Install the power cable so that it is protected from damage.
$The intrinsically safe connector for the power cable (primary side) of
YPS02-X... power supplies is not part of the standard equipment supplied
(open cable ends).
Rechargeable Battery for Saving Data in the Memory
Data are saved in a battery-backed memory. For initial operation, leave
the scale connected to AC power for an entire day to charge the battery.
When you disconnect the scale from the power supply, the scale-generated
data are retained for approx. three months. In the standby mode, data are
retained by the power supplied to the scale. If you plan to store the scale for
a relatively long period of time, be sure to print out the data.

Grounding (Earthing) Using an Equipotential Bonding Conductor
§Connect the scale using a grounding cable (equipotential bonding
conductor not part of the equipment supplied) to the main grounding
terminal. In addition, the metal housing of the power supply is grounded
by the protective grounding conductor of the power cable. The metal
housing of the scale is connected to the braided shield of the power supply
connected to the scale.

Connecting Electronic Peripheral Devices
!Make absolutely sure to unplug the scale from AC power before
you connect or disconnect a peripheral device (printer or PC) to or from
the interface port.
!The connecting cables from the scale to the display and control unit,
to the T-connector and to the Zener barrier must be installed so that they
are stationary and protected from damage.
!In the YDI01-Z, YDI02-Z and YDI03-Z Zener barriers, there are 1, 2 or 4
type Z966 Zener barriers. These are designated as [EEx ia]IIC and
can be used in temperature range of 0°C to +40°C (+32°F to +104°F).
The barriers must be installed outside the hazardous area or location and
connected to the equipotential bonding conductor through the terminal
on the housing. Any peripheral devices connected must be incapable of
supplying more than 250 V to the barriers.
!The wiring in the T-connector is passive. The foot switch contains
only a simple switch that sets the “UNIVERSAL_IN” signal to “GND.”
Both devices can be used within the Zone 1 or 2 hazardous area or
Class I, Division 1 hazardous (classified) location.
Warmup Time
To deliver exact results, the scale must warm up for at least 30 minutes after
initial connection to AC power or after a relatively long power outage. Only
after this time will the scale have reached the required operating temperature.
To use a verified scale in legal metrology:
$Be sure to allow the scale to warm up for at least 24 hours after initial
connection to AC power
Covering the Interface Port
If you are not using the interface port, be sure to cover it with the protective
cap supplied with the scale (this is obligatory for using the scale in Zones 1
and 2 hazardous areas and Class I, Division 1 hazardous locations).
Antitheft Locking Device
$Only for models FC06BBE-SX, FC6CCE-HX, FC2CCE-SX, FC12CCE-SX,
FC6CCE-SX, FC12CCE-IX
To fasten an antitheft locking device, use the lug located on the rear panel
of the scale.
§Secure the scale at the place of installation, e.g., with a chain or a lock.

Leveling the Scale
Purpose:
– To compensate for unevenness at the place of installation
– To ensure exactly horizontal positioning of the scale for consistent
repeatability of the weighing results
Always level the scale again any time after it has been moved.
Leveling Scales
FC06BBE-SX, FC6CCE-HX, FC2CCE-SX, FC12CCE-SX,
FC6CCE-SX, FC12CCE-IX
Only the two front feet are used for levelling.
§Retract the two rear feet (only on scales with a rectangular load plate)
§Turn the two front feet as shown in the diagram until the air bubble is
centered within the circle
> Several leveling steps are usually required
§Extend the two rear feet until they touch the surface on which the scale rests

§Adjust the four leveling feet until the air bubble is centered within the circle
of the level indicator

Leveling FCA … IGG Scales
§At the place of installation, level the weighing platform using the four
leveling feet so that the air bubble is centered within the circle of the level
indicator. Check to ensure that all leveling feet securely touch the surface
and that they equally support the weight of the platform.
§Remove the load plate
§Loosen the locknuts on the leveling feet using a 17 mm open-end wrench
(spanner)
§Extend or retract the leveling feet using a 5 mm Allen wrench (key)
§After leveling the weighing platform, refasten the locknuts securely against
the platform frame
§Replace the load plate
Setting the Language
> See the section entitled “Setting the Language” under
“Configuring the Scale” in the separate operating instructions
Setting the Date and Time
> See the section entitled “Entering User Data” under “Configuring the Scale”
