Installation Considerations
The SMS-001A should be installed on a solid, flat, level surface such
as a table or an RCK-5000 2U rack shelf using the rubber feet that
are shipped with the product.
Cable and Wire
The SMS-001A has multiple connections on the back panel. Savant
recommends that the input and output cables are clearly labeled.
Label the cables with their destination or source. Modifications will
be easier in the future.
Audio Connections
The analog audio output of the SMS-001A is typically connected to
the audio source input of a Savant Audio Matrix and Controller such
as the SSA-4004 or SSA-4012.
Configuration Prerequisites
NOTE:
All connections are required before configuring the Savant Media
Server. Verify that all Audio and IP cables are connected before
configuring the SMS-001A.
Cleaning and Maintenance
The internal parts of the SMS-001A are electronic and require no
maintenance. You can clean only with a dry cloth. Do not use any
spray-type, abrasive cleaners on the media server.

7. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with
the manufacturer’s instructions.
8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat
registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including ampliers) that
produce heat.
9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-
type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than
the other. A grounding-type plug has two blades and a third
grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong is provided
for your safety. If the provided plug does not t into your outlet,
consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched,
particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point
where they exit from the apparatus.
11. Only use at tachments/accessori es specied by the manu facturer.
12. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table
specied by the manufa cturer, or sold with the apparatus.
When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/
apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.
13. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused
for long periods of time.
14. Refer all servicing to qualied service personnel. Servicing is
required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way,
such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been
spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus
has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally,
or has been dropped.
15. Use the mains plug to disconnect the apparatus from the mains.
16. WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK,
DO NOT EXPOSE THIS APPARATUS TO RAIN OR MOISTURE.
17. DO NOT EXPOSE THIS EQUIPMENT TO DRIPPING OR
SPLASHING AND ENSURE THAT NO OBJECTS FILLED
WITH LIQUIDS, SUCH AS VASES, ARE PLACED ON THE
EQUIPMENT.
18. THE MAINS PLUG OF THE POWER SUPPLY CORD SHALL REMAIN
READILY OPERABLE.

FROM THE AC RECEPTACLE. THE MAINS PLUG OF THE
POWER SUPPLY CORD SHALL REMAIN READILY OPERABLE.

DD-8 ampliers require Class 2 output wiring.
MAGNETIC FIELD
CAUTION! Do not locate sensitive high-gain equipment such as
preampliers or tape decks directly above or below the unit. Because
this amplier has a high power density, it has a strong magnetic eld
which can induce hum into unshielded devices that are located
nearby. The eld is strongest just above and below the unit.
Ifanequipment rackisused, werecommend locating theamplier(s)in
the bottom of the rack and the preamplier or other sensitive
equipment at the top.
